2019 Recruiting - Football

It may have had to do with one prerequisite class, which would explain the he can fix it comment
His granny said he's a very good student
As a grandparent myself, I can tell you that grandparents are ALWAYS very objective and NEVER biased when it comes to their grandkids. So there's that.

There we go again with the mysterious "TE" position.
I was watching the 2003 aggy game on LHN and noticed Texas lining up David Thomas and Bo Scaife on the same play on several occasions. I know Scaife was hurt a lot, but imagine having two really good PELs (Pass Eligible Lineman) at the same time. Boggles the mind.

Not to mention its a (perhaps the) key position in the Herman-preferred offense.

I am old enough that I remember one of Akers' teams running a TE trap. I don't know who was more stunned me or the DT who got buried and carried off the field.

Arizona DB Noa Pola-Gates will be visiting Texas on July 28th. While he wants to play CB in college he projects better at safety. Texas has offered him to play CB.

The thing that Pola-Gates is looking for in a program is one that can bring him a national championship and the ability to produce music… But mostly getting a to hold the trophy is what drives him. Therefore, it seems pretty obvious why Alabama is a leader here. However, it seems he’s starting to broaden his horizons. He realizes he has an opportunity to win big at Penn State, USC, and Texas. If the coaches can convince him they’ll win a national championship it seems Texas could do pretty well here.

There will be many players in this same weekend including Texas commits WR Jake Smith, CB Marques Caldwell, LB De’Gabriel Floyd, and probably others. Several 2020s will be in town as well including WR Troy Omeire (we like this guy alot) and CB Jaylon Jones of Cibolo Steele ("like this staff constructed him in a lab").

Mike Roach put in a CB to Texas for ATH Makiya Tongue (6'2,210) of Baton Rouge. He recently put out his top 3 of Arizona State, Georgia and Texas. He is the No. 15 ATH and No. 222 overall per 247Comp

“I like Texas a lot, man. They see me as a receiver. I like that it’s in the Big 12 and how balanced the offense is. They don’t throw the ball too much and they don’t run the ball too much. I really like the offense.”

2019 RB Derrian Brown from Buford, GA --

"..... It seems pretty clear that Texas is making Brown a priority. He tells me that he’s being recruiting by coach Drayton, coach Washington and the head man himself, coach Herman......

So far, Brown hasn’t taken any official visits but says he will “of course” visit Texas this fall. ... Other schools he’s considering for official visits are Auburn, Penn State, Florida State and Notre Dame.

Brown’s running style is a great fit for the Big 12. As he works his way through some initial trash and with it being commonplace in the Big 12 to have five or six defensive backs on the field, his ability to get to top speed coming out of the fray could create real leverage problems for the back end of these Big 12 defenses.

An LSU mod also put in a CB for Tongue to Texas.
The gurus say he would go to Georgia if they had a spot but it appears they may not. We will see. They also say he wants to play WR in college but his position will eventually be LB. LSU also looms as a threat given where he is from

Help me to understand. We ONLY have two of the top 25 and three of the top 50 in Scout's 2019 Texas list. Sharp contrast to last year. Are we simply waiting to get commits from the top national guys? Do we have a realistic chance with enough of them? Are we planning to flip guys at the end? OR have we slipped?

Have no idea what Herman is up to other than ceding North Texas to ou and aggy. One only hopes he knows what he is doing as it appears he is pissing off Texas HS coaches.

All I know is this if I were UT head football coach I would pounce on/recruit every one on the top 55 Texas list no matter what part of the state they are at. Having said that I kinda doubt that Herman concedes the northern territories to others I just think that other colleges know the best negative recruiting tactics to use against UT. These other programs do have history and good recruiters. Let's not forget that kids are impressionable and they can easily get caught in the net of the evil bad guys. Plus we can only get 25 or so every year. Well that's competition for you but once Texas wins 10 games consistently and goes to the playoffs it will be easier to get those recruits up north. I also think that recruiting nationally is good because UT has a lot to offer and we don't want to deny some recruits who dream of going to a far away place to become taught and famous...:ousucks:

With no specific knowledge, I suspect that Coach Herman is no more 'conceding' North Texas this year than he ceding Austin because the WR went elsewhere. (Don't remember name specifics but not important to point). These things, recruiting, are cyclical. James Street would have gone to Arkansas if they had had a decent baseball program because Terry Don Phillips (later AD at South Carolina) was a friend there and his brother Lloyd was two-time All America there. Longview was as close to U of A as Austin and recruited well there. There was a time aTm owned Dallas area (literally) and OU had car dealership ties that were unsurmountable. Now aTm (with unmatched inferiority complex unchecked) joins SEC, SEC, SEC to open up the entire south east USA to Texas and that is a drain. Kids, 17/18 years old, will always take comfort in homeboys around. At the same time, kids might be great and play with other great HS players who they hate. Ain't goin' there mentality. We had the four greats from Texas City/Lamarque all at one time. We don't win every battle for top talent because we aren't a factory for NFL that put so many stars in eyes of today's recruits (like UGa and Alabama) but do we want to be? I say not. I want to lose recruiting battles (never happy about them) to Stanford or Notre Dame for kids that will be tomorrow's leaders. Not Ray Lewis or Tyrell Owens clones. Hell I played on two MNC's and didn't have five players total play in the NFL. Sometimes we need to get our priorities ordered properly. We are the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS. Not aTm. When asked what had to happen to win a national championship, Coach Royal answered, 'first thing is Notre Dame has to lose'. No different today. We can and will win another. Again Coach Royal said, 'sooner or later those kids at aTm will look at the player next to them and notice that on their helmet and know they can't win.'
