2019 Recruiting - Football

There will be no disbanding until after the TV contracts are expired. Texas and Oklahoma will likely end up together in either the B1G or Pac 12, my guess is the easiest place to go is to take OSU blOwU and Tech to the Pac.
ou and OSU are a package wherever they go. Nebraska will use every trick in the book to keep both out of the B1G (assuming Nebraska is still in that Conference).

Not sure Tech is desired by either the PAC-12 or especially the B1G. The question will be is the lure of having Texas in the Conference greater than the disdain for Tech?

Back to Viper's post earlier...
I am certainly not trying to completely discount the information presented in the article, but let's not forget the source. We all know DMN hates UT. There is nothing we can do about it...and it may very well affect our efforts in the metroplex even, but I will never go too far in reacting to anything put out by that bunch.
For the record, I am more concerned about Spencer Rattler than Jimbo Fisher.

AZ HS ball is on par with the private schools in Texas so the usual warning - caveat emptor. Not really worried about Jimbo on the field as his natty is tainted by the off-field actions of his QB and the resulting cover-up by Free Shoe U. However the group of shady recruiters he has assembled at aggy should be a cause of concern.

This one was actually between the good guys and Okie Light, but I'll still take it! :hookem:
Yes sir....You are right. Not exactly head to head, technically, but a guy they would like to have had and out of their back yard. We've taken a few top players out of the state now and a handful where both OU and UT recruited...and about 3-4 that came down to us vs Riley.
Your point is true, though. I should have clarified. Hey, we like beating the mullet-man, too!

TFB on Houston and the remaining WR recruit outlook --

" ..... After this season, Texas could very well lose four top wide receivers. One major task for the staff this cycle was too sure up the wide receiver room in both slot and outside. With the commitment of Demariyon Houston, the staff has taken a good step towards both due to Houston’s versatility. Houston has played as both an inside slot wide receiver and an outside deep threat at Z. Our sources inside the department haven’t indicated that they are 100% sure whether he will stick as a Z or be moved to X, however, it looks like the Z wide receiver will be where he will start when he arrives in Austin.

Houston has some nasty straight-line speed. The track-star officially ran a 10.71 100M dash his sophomore season, and he has reported broken that this past year with a 10.64 100M dash and a sub-4.4 40-yard dash (although I can’t get an official number there). On top of the speed, Houston has shown he has a bit of wiggle to him, showing the ability to stop, change directions, and accelerate or just find some way through a hole.

While Houston does have some killer speed, that isn’t all it takes to get separation. At the next level, he will find people that will match his speed. The use of your hands, understanding where the coverage is weak, and/or where to position yourself are three key features to getting separation. All three I’ve seen him display in his play. The body positioning is especially evident in his ability to win the 50/50 tossup. Furthermore, getting some muscle on him in college will be able to help give him the strength to be better at fighting off hand-play in college. Which leads me to my next part…

Houston may need to improve his strength and size. Right now, he’s sitting at 6’0” 165lbs. However, for any program worth its weight (pun intended) it should be able to put good weight on their players easily through fitness and nutrition.

So where does this leave Texas with WR recruiting? Well, now they have Jordan Whittington slotted to play slot or X, Jake Smith for the slot, and Demariyon Houston for Z. So there is a guy for each position. Now they will focus on targets like Bru McCoy, Dylan Wright, Elijah Higgins, Makiya Tongue, Jaylen Ellis, Langston Anderson, and Peyton Powell. We feel they will slow play the later three, Bru McCoy will always have a spot, Dylan Wright is a priority, and we will all figure out what is going on with Tongue and Higgins in August.

Texas has beaten out Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Auburn for a great talent who has room to grow in a position group that needs bodies."

Maybe I am a little late but I was wondering about Sopsher. #1 DT from Frisco. Did we recruit him? He certainly is at a position of need and is one of the best. Did he tell us to bug off or is it something else?

In regards to receivers needed ...this guy wouldn't be on the 40 long, but it would be awesome to bring him over to play with his teammate in grad transfer Tre Watson.
Odds seem against it, but it's a nice thought.

Edit: I might should have put this on the 2018 thread but chose to put it here as it fit the above discussion and article regarding our receiving corps current and moving forward

Not sure I understand 'not qualified' comment. Unless rules have changed, graduation requires 3 1/2 years of English (Fr, So, Jr. and half SR) and government. Government being half year with economics other half. Nobody is 'qualified' until after their Senior fall semester. What am I missing?

Since I live near Roschon Johnson's home town I can't wait to see him play. They say he has been working hard every day and that he is bigger, stronger and faster according to his coach. He is a field rat in the order of a gym rat. The kid has a 4.0 gpa. I think he is going to be a difference maker at the next level.
