2019 Recruiting - Football

Supposedly J. Sheperd is on deck, clearig his throat and preparing to announce at 1 pm .... assuming it is still on time.

Any of you that see the news flash - alert all of us working slobs that have to get our news here.... thanks in advance.

Do we know if Lakia Henry is supposed to sign today? I assume he is, since he has been taking official visits, but didn't know if he might sign later, since he is JUCO.
He is signing at 1pm today. Mostly arkansas crystal balls until awhile ago with some movement to ole miss late.

He could wait but I guess he wants it over with. He is a May grad, I think
The consensus seems to be Pigpen

TFB says --

" .... For what it’s worth, Lakia told K that he has not yet made up his mind as to where he wants to go.

Just spoke with K again and he tells me that he feels like Lakia is being forthright with him and that he is indeed torn between Arkansas and Texas.

K’s sense of it is that Lakia probably favors Texas after his visit and seeing all that Austin and Texas had to offer. However, there is a sense of loyalty to Arkansas as they have recruited him for such a long time and he has a strong and longstanding relationship with that staff.

While K is still not ready to predict this one to go Texas’ way, he does feel better about their chances than he did yesterday...."

However, there is some chatter out there that he may sign with Ole Miss.
And if that happens, then .....

I think he is our highest rated recruit since 2012
In any event, we finally made it official

Bill,

You are correct about Booker to a certain level. He did bring great pride to Houston's worst, most violent neighborhood, but he was never in the class of Willie Ray Smith, but then Coach Smith is one of the most influential people in Texas/Southern history. Thousands of Texas athletes have received significant benefit without ever knowing who Coach Smith was.

The incident I referenced was Booker's 1985 team, which was really great, but not as great or as talented as Earl's Tyler John Tyler team.

That TJT team must have really been something special, because I saw JY play 3 times in 85 and all 3 times they destroyed everyone, and it wasn't even close. I watched them play SA Holmes in the Semi-Finals and they killed them, shut down Keith and Kerry Cash and probably sacked Wilber Odem about 10 times. then they did the same thing to a Permian team that had won the state title (share of it) the year before. Beat them 32-0. If I remember correctly no team scored more than 20 pts on them all year, the only team that even kept it close was Jones.

I'm basing it on talent alone, although Corky was a pretty good coach, that Tyler team had double digits of kids signing with either NFL or MLB.

Here is a good write-up from TFB, with film to back up their takes, about our top 3 GT/JUCO OL targets
I think Proctor is the highest rated (he mauls people)
But Braun is also a very attractive OL

Open Post | Wednesday, February 6th - The Football Brainiacs - UT Edition
Shoot, I'd like all 3 GT/JC OLs if we have the space. In my view, Braun looked particularly impressive on the film I've seen for his athleticism, footwork, technique, and functional strength/power (especially considering his size--listed at 280 lb).
