2019 Recruiting - Football

Well boo-hoo about McCoy counting for the 2019 UT class and "cheating" Ol' Sarge out of a higher 247 ranking.

I have no idea who he is and I don't give a rat's *** about poor aggy blogger Luke Leifker. Perhaps he should focus his blogging on why aggy has been mired in football mediocrity for over 100 years, except the season when Hitler decided to invade Poland.

Here is a snippet from what 247 says about it

" ..... but I’m still hearing Henry really wants to play in the SEC.

And that’s a big reason why Henry arrived at Texas on Thursday as opposed to Friday. Following his trip to UT, Henry paid his own way to Arkansas for an unofficial visit — he made an OV there back in November. I’m told that Henry backed out of his verbal pledge to Tennessee in large part because of an academic credit issue — the same one that plagued Gary Johnson, who also attended Dodge City C.C.

But according to a source, Arkansas feels good about getting Henry qualified following his May graduation. And I assume Ole Miss also has a plan place to get Henry into school without any issues as well. Arkansas has made Henry its top priority heading into signing day and getting him back on campus speaks volumes about his interest in the Razorbacks....."
Arkansas has academic requirements for entry?!?! You mean other than, "Hey kid, can you see lightening and hear thunder?"

Mike Roach wrote a piece on our 2019 OL class. Here is a snippet of the part on Javonne Shepherd --

" .... The four-star Houston North Forest offensive tackle was a big head-to-head win over (aggy), but the Longhorns had to fight to keep him all the way until National Signing Day. Shepherd’s senior season was tumultuous to say the least. After gaining weight in the summer, Shepherd was able to get back to his idea size in the fall, but he missed time during the season after some off-the-field troubles. Regardless, Texas still needed to hold on to him to keep infusing talent into their system.

Shepherd is more of a lottery ticket. His size and athleticism are uncommon, but he will need work on the technical side. Like Johnson, Shepherd is a tackle body who could play guard if he needed to. If he develops the way the coaches would like him to, he has the athletic ability to be an impact blindside protector and NFL talent. ...."

Texas looking to close with small but impressive OL class

That site must have some very good SEO technology because I Googled “Texas” two hours ago and that article was the second item on the list.

I think the writer is a high school senior whose career ambition is listed as "working at texags."

Inside Texas says Lakia Henry did make it to Fayetteville on Sunday. Got in there before the dead period starts. Probably not a good sign. Morris is supposed to be a Herman-hater

I think this tweet was about Henry (but am not 100% about it)

And here is the take by 247' Bobby Burton's on Shepherd --

" ..... Shepherd is a really high upside prospect, and I mean as high as any OL in the state or country. He has immense size at 6-foot-6, 300-plus pounds and he's also very athletic. He even played some goal-line running back and scored on his highlight film (see below)

However, the knock on Shepherd, according to 247Sports analyst Barton Simmons, has been off the field concerns, some of which caused him to miss some playing time as a senior. Yet if Shepherd bears down and commits himself to being a great player over the next few years, he can be as good as he wants to be.

Shepherd will join two other athletic offensive linemen in this class. Both Tyler Johnson and Isaiah Hookfin are very good athletes for their respective size. A position group (the OL) that was once a real albatross around the neck of the program is looking better and better with each passing year...."

And 247's Burton on the possibilities putting Jordan Whittington at RB can open up for the offense --

"Something to think about... If Whittington somehow ends up earning real time at RB, it gives Tom Herman's offense an interesting opportunity. With Whittington, we're talking about a guy who could truly make it a five-wide set without the Horns having to substitute. A lot of teams switch up their linebackers to cover running backs out wide. But if Whittington motions out of the backfield or lines up near the boundary, it's tough to see a defense making that switch, which in turn could give more favorable match-ups to other receivers inside...."

we've had some success using WR at RB over the years.

Yup, JS is going to milk his college courtship right to the last minute....

I think aggy has 3 spots, so maybe one thing to watch is if they let the 3 guys they have set to announce go before Shepherd. If so, its a clear sign they have conceded. If not, then it might be because they still think they have a shot. The recruiting paysites have been saying aggy does still like their chances (even after he cussed them out on social media)

Isn't social media a lovely thing? It let's the world know what a tough guy you are for cussing out someone online!

I know Sheperd is really good and has great upside.... However, I'm concerned he may be a head case. Remember Martell Bennett we fought aggy for but aggy got him? Perriloser - LSU?

Agree, I've been saying for weeks that we should pass on him. I'm all for enjoying the process, but he seems to enjoy playing the schools more which is a me, me, me problem. That baggage comes with the player and eventually exposes its ugly side on campus.

As I have said elsewhere, it isn't who Shepard signs with; it is where he finishes his 3rd year.

Yup. Lot's of drama / attention about ME and what I do.

Little to no humility about the opportunity or others.... watch out.
