2018 Senate (& House)

I still don't understand why it's cool for a 46 year old man to ride a skateboard. There's a reason why I don't play with Lincoln Logs anymore. It's a juvenile thing to do. Ditto for riding a skateboard.

They won't win NJ. Even with Menendez on the ballot, the state is too blue to flip.

It's not like I'm out canvassing or anything, but I just get a feel around here that a lot of people are fed up with Menendez. I think there's a real shot for him to lose, but it will definitely be close. I shouldn't have been lazy last night, and gone to the rally down the road from me for Hugin... but oh well. I'm very excited about voting against Menendez, win or lose.

Deez, many see skateboarding as athletic event or hobby even into adulthood. Nothing like Lincoln logs.. It is like Barack Obama playing basketball basically.

My new significant other here in Tennessee planned on voting for Bredesen, who by all respects, is a middle of the road Democrat. She thought he was a great mayor and a great governor. She voted for Blackburn because, although she dislikes Trump, likes the results. I think the blue wave fails.

I think what it really happening here is the same as it was for Bill Clinton and Obama, there are a lot of white women out there who like to fantasize about having sex with them. This is likely what pushed JFK over the top in his squeaker of an election as well. Carter is their one exception and I would call that one special circumstances.

Some Texas numbers --

First, based on county turnout reports, the total number of early votes cast statewide during the first 5 days of the 2018 early voting period already exceeds the total number of votes cast during the entire 12-day early voting period in 2014.

Next, the five counties with the highest early voting turnout so far (defined as the % of registered voters already voting) --
Williamson (22.8%)
Comal (22.6%)
Hays (20.8%)
Collin (20.6%)
Lubbock (20.5%).
Trump received 56% of the vote in these 5 in 2016.

Lastly, the five counties with the lowest early voting turnout so far-
Webb (9.0%)
Cameron (12.7%)
Bell (13.2%)
Harris (13.2%)
Bexar (14.3%)
Trump received 41% of the vote in these 5 in 2016.

They might see it that way, but it's not "cool" when you're an adult. And it's not like Obama playing basketball. Lots of adult men play basketball. Not many skateboard. And those who play basketball don't try to claim "coolness" because they play basketball.

Now, Bush our clearing brush on his land...that was cool. And the fact that he wasn't trying to be cool, made it even cooler.

Republicans are never portrayed as cool. And if they do something that some might consider cool, it's spun as dorky, weird, or phony (whether it is or isn't).

So while Beta was being a nanny and a mover of pictures Cruz was representing the state of Texas before the SCOTUS and winning.

Anecdotal info: In my heavily republican area of Brazoria County, I waited in line to early vote. I've never had to do that before. Unfortunately for me, that almost defeats the purpose of early voting. But I was impressed.

Voted Saturday morning. Comal county, where I live, is no. 2 on Joe Fan's list of highest early voting turnouts, but I was in and out in a couple of minutes, even with a style of voting machine I hadn't used before.

So did you overcome the urge to vote for The Skateboard?

Check out the message the good folks who produce TV show "The Big Bang" slipped into its closing credits on its most recent episode. At the end comes what they call their “vanity card.” It's created by Chuck Lorre Productions. It was on the air for only about 3 seconds, running between the end credits and the Warner Bros. studio logo. The studio also the full message on its web site. This one was titled “My Prayer” --

“God, (I call you that even though I suspect thou art well beyond names and words and might actually be some sort of ineffable quantum situation), I humbly beseech thee to make thy presence known on November 6th -- If you, in your divine wisdom, believe a fascist, hate-filled, fear-mongering, demagogic, truth-shattering, autocratic golf cheater is what we need right now, then, you know, thy will be done. But if thou art inclined to more freedom, more love, more compassion, and just more of the good stuff … I submissively ask that thy encourage voter turnout in that general direction. Also God, please help Bob Mueller.”
