2018 Senate (& House)

I was around for Reagan. It was crazy then too. The most obvious differences being no internet and the lack of widespread cable TV -- which made it easier for the rest of us to insulate ourselves from their whining. But they hated him with a passion. They were saying the same sort of things then they are saying about Trump now. From the same place -- visceral hate. Even got Europeans to protest Reagan. They were wrong then too, every one of them, but they never actually ever admitted it.

They do praise Reagan now. They say "Yeah, Reagan was a great president." As if it is stating the obvious. What they dont say is "... and we were all wrong about him at the time. Sorry we drug the country through that." Funny how that works. What will they be saying about Trump 35 years from now?

I think they still blame him for the mass shootings today because of cutbacks in federal spending on mental health care. But I think that is a real gray area as the field may have begun pushing more towards pills than putting people away. But if you say, "It's not the guns" then they say, Reagan cut back on mental health spending.

But they do like to quote him from time to time as he was more moderate than some Republicans are today. They also note he signed a bill giving amnesty to 2.7 million illegal aliens but conveniently ignore that the enforcement arm of the bill was a total failure; the inclusion of which was key to getting Reagan's signature.

In the end, they cherry pick what they like while vilifying him in general.

HOUSTON — President Donald Trump’s rally in Houston next week with Sen. Ted Cruz and other top Republicans is moving to a larger venue, though it’s still not the biggest stadium in Texas.

Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted Thursday that the Monday night’s event would now be held at the 19,000-seat Toyota Center, home of the NBA’s Houston Rockets.

It had been scheduled for the 8,000-seat NRG Arena, but Pascale tweeted that ticket demand “has been HUGE and unprecedented!”

My argument has always been the main change in this area was brought by the decade-long series of lawsuits brought by the ACLU (late-60s through end of the 70s) which made it near impossible to keep crazy folk off the street

Who is the “leader” of today’s democrat party?

Pelosi?
Schumer?
Maxine?
Tom Steyer?
Keith “abuser” Ellison?

How anyone gives these idiots control is beyond comprehension.

I know who wants to be.

He is an Irishman, pretending to be a Hispanic, doing his best to sound like an African American, debating like a Scottish-German President, while carrying the baggage of an old Russian/Chinese political system.

They all are. In many ways they are not as coordinated as we might believe. They are driven by such emotionally charged uncompromising ideals that speaks to their very being (and this is me assuming their ideals are pushed forward in good-faith; meaning it's not an act bent on inflaming those with an axe to grind against life and/or people more successful than them) that they will turn on ANYONE including someone on their own side.

Everyone hates political ads on TV. There are so many of them. Plus, they are usually awful. And it seems like they repeat the most awful ones the most. Even Ted Cruz' ads are pretty bad.
But here is one that I think is simple and effective. It's the best one Ive seen this cycle. You guys agree or not?

This campaign commercial at least gets points for humor
Elizabeth Heng’s ad shows Jim Costa walking in Nancy Pelosi’s "shoes" (Calif - 16th)

I don't know how this guy thought this cartoon was a good idea...

But this incited violence.

Major is a rescue dog. Someone threw away a terrific Australian Shepherd puppy
He lived on the streets until Dallas Animal Services picked him up.
He is a winner just like his namesake.

I don't know what Cortez meant exactly but the idea is to rally states around singular goals to utilize all resources like in times of war. It is a bit ironic.

Now she wants to bomb the Germans
(Is she wrong?)

I think building a bunch of tanks and rolling across Africa and Europe is a fantastic idea. I'm not sure how that helps with global warming, but hey, she's the socialist. She's much smarter than I am.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: Yes I'm aware that she means retasking the entire manufacturing economy in the U.S. to create green energy tech. But that's too stupid to address, so I'm sticking with the "build a bunch of tanks" narrative.)

Here is the Tucker - Cenk debate. IMO, this is a type of civil debate that has been missing in USA society for a long time
Believe it or not, when I was younger, we would see partisans capable of political debate in public without the whole thing devolving into name-calling. But that seems like a very long time ago
From my perspective, its rare to find a liberal willing to do this sort of thing today since their ideas are not easily defended. But this guy does his best (but he, of course, cannot resist bringing in a Nazi reference pretty quick)

Anyway, it's pretty good if you have an hour

I went to downtown Houston today and the scene is pretty wild. There are people are everywhere. And, of course, because they are conservatives, they were all in lines behaving themselves, smiling and having fun. The lines snaked everywhere. Some people arrived 2 days ago just to be sure they got in. The only thing Ive ever sene that could compare was the Astros World Series celebration.

I saw this thing too -- it was playing disco when I went by

Trump tonight in Houston --

"If you want the Fake News to investigate Hillary Clinton we have to nominate her to the Supreme Court. How do you like that? Let's see how she does. If Kavanaugh had to go through what he went through can you imagine Hillary up there? 3-4 years of questions."
