2018 Roster

What is the family issue? He is a 3 hour car ride from home. Is he planning on transferring to Coug High?

The story is sort of out there. My take on it is that he feels duty bound to be even physically closer so he can help more easily and more frequently.
UH makes the most sense under the circumstances. We will see.

At least that is a scenario that makes sense. It also speaks well of him if that is the case.

I think, if it does happen, its purely a family thing.
Not about the program.

I saw that and wondered as well. If it's for family reasons, then that's a real shame but you have to do what's best for the family. It definitely shouldn't be about PT because clearly he was lined up to be possibly the go-to guy.

He is a playmaker and will be missed for sure. I hope things are OK with his family or whatever the concern may be. Best wishes to the young man. :hookem:

For the record, I just read that Will Blaizer is disagreeing with me on the family issue. He thinks there might actually be another issue.
I am dubious of Blaizer's claim in light of what we already know about the family situation and how enthusiastic Reggie always was about UT. He was like an extra recruiter.
So, we will have to see what comes out later.

update -- As best I can tell, the claim is that both he and LJH had an issue with Mehringer. It still does not make sense to me given that Meekins is now the inside WRs coach

Jeff Howe has something out on it that makes it sound like it will happen
But he has nothing else original to add to the story beyond some mild confirmation

Are there any other offensive linemen in the system than the ones listed in the Ian Boyd article? going into a season with only 13 guys is beyond crazy. And that is only if we get Tucker and Anderson. This line is so paper thin we will have to pray for no injuries. We have a season like last year and you can bet we will be seeing walk ons in the starting lineup.

Adding Calvin Anderson and dropping Casey Tucker unless I hear different. And we are still recruiting several other OLs

Elijah Rodriguez, RS Senior
Patrick Vahe, senior
Calvin Anderson, senior
Zach Shackelford, junior
Garrett Thomas, RS junior (i think he suited for the Bowl Game)
Denzel Okafor, RS sophomore
JP Urquidez, RS sophomore
Pat Hudson, RS sophomore
Tope Imade, RS sophomore
Derek Kerstetter, sophomore
Mikey Grandy, sophomore
Sam Cosmi, RS freshman
Reese Moore, freshman
Rafiti Ghirmai, freshman
Junior Angilau, freshman

We still could add two more to this list and it be thin. Lets not forget that Angilau is no shoe-in as he is still up in the air on his LDS Mission trip. I'm really hoping we get both Tucker and Anderson as they will give us a really solid line next year. We really need to redshirt all the incoming freshmen if we can. That is the only way we will ever start to build quality depth on the line.

I hope we don't lose him. Especially if this is coaching related. Those things should be sorted out with some good Herman intervention.

If he feels like he needs to be closer to family I don't see how we can fault him.

Here's to hoping for good news this weekend from Mapps and our recruits. :hookem:

I don't know the guy, but given what's public, I don't hold it against him if he transfers. He's obviously a Longhorn and he was given focus in the offense as much as above else.
Maybe multiple of the guessed upon reasons all factor together.

He's fun to watch. I hope he's in burnt orange in the fall.

I hate this, but certainly excuse if for serious family issues. What game was it KState that he was instrumental? I dunno why it was so up and down over the season because I thought he was special.

Seems like we might get one more this weekend
Joe I really appreciate all the info you provide, especially during the off season when I am starving for all things Longhorn Football.
With your above comment, do you mean we get another visit or another commitment?

Thanks. The context above was how we are still light on OLs on the 2018 roster. We just made an offer to another OL and the CBs to Texas started to come in almost instantly

I second that, primarily you Joe and Godz40Acres that really do the heavy lifting when it comes to keeping this board informed about various things!!!

THANK YOU from rrrrrbody on HF!!! :hookem:

Here is more from IT on the Reggie transfer

Here’s what we’ve been told:

- Hemphill and wide receivers coach Drew Mehringer apparently had a meeting where Reggie felt "disrespected." Some players always feel disrespected, so keep that in mind.

- Hemphill is currently waiting on his grades for transfer status. They apparently aren't great.

- Going to a JUCO for one semester to straighten out his grades and buy time is a possibility.

- The University of Houston is full right now, a source told IT. But for a kid with RHM’s talent, they’d find room by the time Hemphill-Mapps has his transfer intentions straightened out.

Houston is his desired location, possibly to be closer to his mother and home. But he’d probably play outside receiver, and not slot, for the Cougars. I’m not sure that’s his best position.

We believe he's already gone but we're awaiting confirmation on that. Since he already red-shirted, he'll lose a year of eligibility unless he transfers down to the FCS.

It always amazes me when the "direspect" excuse comes out. Usually that is code for either not enough playing time and/or targets. However Mehringer has done nothing to justify his job so Reggie might have a real concern.

Translation - poor baby got his feelings hurt.

Why does the coach seem to always get the benefit of the doubt

Because the boss may not always be right, but he is always the boss, until he isn't, then he's fired, and a new "always right" person replaces him.

There are exceptions, but those are almost always in educational administration, where normal rules of society do not apply.

Sabre is right. HC is boss - you play his game. Its about the TEAM - not you.

Your personal respect is earned on the field.

Ask any kid that played for DKR. They ALL respected him, all feared him on some level, most loved him as a coach that challenged to be them better.

This ain't about your personal respect. IMO you earn that on the field.

Amen! Preach it brother! :hookem:
