2018 Roster

Sounds like the D’shawn Jamison to the slot experiment may be working

' ..... When the Longhorns recruited Jamison, Herman didn’t necessarily see him as an offensive prospect. That said, Jamison was so good whenever he touched the ball in high school that Herman and Co. were intrigued about the idea of using Jamison on offense.

“I think we saw him as a ‘wherever we need him’ kind of guy,” Herman said. “He’s a tremendous athlete, he’s shown ability with the ball in his hands in the return game in high school.”

Jamison was most certainly electric whenever he touched the ball as a senior for a talented Lamar squad, scoring seven touchdowns in four different ways — four kickoff returns, a punt return, an interception return and a run from scrimmage. The ability of the 5-foot-10-inch, 180-pound Under Armour All-America selection to work in tight spaces, play with physicality and create big plays makes him an intriguing option in the slot.

The slot position in Herman’s pro-spread offense requires a unique skill set where handling the ball as a running back, being a terror in the short passing game and having the ability to take the top off of a defense are all valued equally. The best option on the roster among the returning veterans is LIl'Jordan Humphrey, but Herman is intrigued by the complete package Jamison brings to the table compared to Humphrey and Jerrod Heard.

(Jamison) gives us something, maybe, that we don’t have at that position,” Herman said. “We’ve been playing L.J. and Jerrod who are bigger guys with maybe not quite the explosion and straight-line speed that D’shawn has.”

The offensive staff didn’t find an answer in the slot last season, which was one of several positions that failed to produce at an adequate enough level to keep the offense moving forward. However, with the tight end position set to enter preseason practice with a collection of healthy, talented bodies, the offensive line Calvin Anderson and running back Tre Watson groups adding graduate transfers in the offseason to beef up their respective depth charts and the quarterback room being as strong as it’s been on the Forty Acres in several years with four scholarship bodies, Jamison could give the slot position the boost it needs to function the way it needs to in order for Herman’s offense to get off the ground."

1. Fits of rage
2. Guys raising their max lifts by large margins to new personal bests
Anyone else worried about a connection here?
Fits of rage? Are incidents like Boyd's happening all over town, and the Statesman just missed them?

Has either Herman or McKnight ever been linked with any underhanded, short-cut methodologies to strength gains before?

I think not only are you barking up the wrong tree, but you should apologize to the rest of the board for doing so.

Sangre,

A few years back, a friend's son (student at UT) was driving West down 24th about 230 AM when a small car in the right lane attempted to make a left turn onto San Gabriel without using his turn signal. After the collision, other driver jumped out and started yelling and screaming in a middle eastern accent and saying he was going to sue. My friend's son calmly told him, if he was going to be sued, he wanted his money's worth, so he took a 357 out of his truck and shot two Garfield dolls out of the windows of the guy's car , then put the gun back in the truck, and popped the guy in the face four times.

Nothing on TV or in The Spaceman ever.

How many road rage or traffic disputes were there in Travis County this weekend? Only one makes the news.

The rush to judgement crowd has destroyed one season and one player's career, don't even think about a repeat of that travesty.

Herman on Hand:

"The addition of Herb Hand has been great. It's been fantastic."

Herman on the OL:

"They've improved for a variety of reasons. We're getting healthier. We finished with eight scholarship offensive linemen. Now you add the four freshmen, Calvin Anderson, and Patrick Hudson in the mix, we feel like we've got a better room."

Herman on Cameron Rising"

He will receive a very small percentage of first string snaps.

Herman on Tre Watson (he was injured last Sept and had surgery in Oct)

"His history at Cal was definitely a very good pass catcher out of the backfield. He's a low center of gravity guy so he's got very good leverage blocking."

More Watson:

He will be limited at the beginning of camp. "Hopefully by practice five or six he should be ready to go."

Herman on freshmen:

"I've seen them run around cones and go through bags. They look good doing it."

Texas enters preseason camp close to full health

Only two players are expected to be limited when practice starts (Watson & Brewer)

TFB on the RBs-

It’s obvious Texas won’t rely on any of the current backs like it did with D’Onta Foreman. That was clear last year, and that mentality hasn’t changed. Aside from Watson, sophomore Danny Young flashed glimpses at several points during his freshman year and should also be considered a front-runner to get a hefty chunk of playing time. With Texas willing to give multiple backs time, keep an eye on these two as fall camp unfolds.

Texas has been careful in its handling of graduate transfer running back Tre Watson’s return from injury. The transfer from California was limited in the first two days of practice, only participating in non-contact drills. Herman said he was limited on Sunday as well when the team put on pads, but cranked his involvement up for Tuesday’s practice. Watson is expected to be ready to go on Wednesday or Thursday for the first two days of full-padded practice, allowing him to take the the starting job — if he wants it.

Offensive line coach Herb Hand on the running backs at Thursday’s press conference: “You like to have someone step up and say, ‘I’m going to be the one that wants to be the feature back.’ But it’s going to take the whole stable, just like every other position. You’ve got to have quality depth to be able to play the type of schedule we play. In college football nowadays, you’ve got to have two or three guys you can really count on.”

QB Cam Rising continues to get reps with the ones
But, the primary QB battle still appears to be between Sam Ehlinger and Shane Buechele. In a press conference Thursday, Herman said Ehlinger would take the first snap, stating, “He’s earned it.”

On the OL --

“He (Calvin Anderson) stoned Hager three out of four times, today”.

But when Okafor ran with the ones at LT, the DL dominated

From a TFB "source"

***I asked a source, very simply, is this offense actually better than last years. The answer I received was equally as simply but the most exciting sourced note I’ve received in a while… “The offense is light years ahead of where it was last year”.

***While they aren’t starter, two guys I’m hearing a lot about in recent days in Junior Angilau and Sam Cosmi. Texas just hasn’t had enough guys in the past number of years to be elite on the offensive line and certainly haven’t had enough depth. What I’m hearing about Angilau and Cosmi makes me more optimistic about the kind of talent that’s coming into the program.

Source said, “Angilau is f***** special. Him and Cosmi are competing in a way that is, frankly, exciting. The future is bright with those guys. You’ll see them this year. They may not be starters but they’re creating more intense competition and they’re guys who mark an upward trend in the cieling of offensive linemen at Texas”.
