2018 Recruiting - Football

Back to Anthony Cook. With the way our defense is looking at this moment I have to believe he is reconsidering and taking a serious look at us. Of course we are going to get challenged in the next few weeks so we will see how that goes.

The pay services are saying he seemed more engaged and excited about Texas in this last visit than in the past

The LSU 247 mods saying we are the team to watch now for Hines

He was their 4th highest rated commit.

the double arrow thing indicates a change

update -- Hines says he talked to Coach O today who told him he could play on the DL for them. And his mom wants him to stick with his commitment. So, he may be staying

Some quotes from Cook --

“Texas really showed me something. I would give the visit the highest grade possible. On a 1-10 scale, it was a 10. I saw a lot of things that I liked and how I would fit on and off the field. I like the alumni base and connections. I also got to talk to Michael Huff and Aaron Ross. It’s great to see those players come back and support.

I broke down film with Coach Washington and sat in on the DB meeting. We had dinner with him all weekend. I felt comfortable with him. I like him a lot. I got to go to Coach Herman’s house and played basketball with them. We had a lot of fun.

I had one last conversation with Coach Herman before I left, and we actually talked about recruiting. He asked me where they stand and if they have a real shot. And yes, they do have a real shot.”

I would say Ohio State and Texas are one now. They are both tied at the top, so LSU is number two. I don’t know what it was about Texas. It was just one of those visits where you feel it. I loved everything about it.”

"Chasen Hines: Some big news that hit last night, and it looked for awhile that some good news could be coming for Texas was with Marshall (TX) LSU DT/OG commit Chasen Hines. Texas offered Hines as a DT on Friday, who was committed to LSU as an offensive guard for a long time. But told me he’d rather play DT at the next level. Texas was selling him on being able to play both sides of the ball, or whichever one he wanted to play. With that in his mind, along with LSU losing to Troy, it looked like Hines was going to re-open his recruitment. Instead he tweeted this.

I was told the LSU staff was talking to Hines for hours on Sunday after they found out about the news with Texas and Hines. The fact they offered him a shot to play DT at LSU, and that his mother has been very pro-LSU throughout his recruitment helped them hold onto Hines.

He’s solid to the Tigers right now, but I will say that I don’t think this is the last time LSU and Texas go at it over Hines. Texas has been working to flip Hines for awhile now. And I’m sure they’re going to use their favorable DT depth chart plus the fact that LSU has 4 DT’s committed if you count Hines. Like I said, I’d bet this isn’t the last chapter in this recruitment. – (Andrew)"

"Joseph Ossai: I have confirmed with a source close to Texas OLB/DE target, Joseph Ossai (Conroe, TX) that Ossai will take his official visit to Texas this upcoming weekend for the Kansas State game.

Ossai is essentially down to TAMU and Texas. TAMU feels confident but…I don’t know that they should. I continue to be told that while Ossai likes TAMU as a school, Texas is well within striking distance. This upcoming weekend will likely push this thing one way or the other.

Interestingly, while Ossai had long said he would wait till signing day to decide (early signing period or late), my source said, “that [date] could change with the fatigue of the recruiting process”. – (Super K)"

Weird update to the update -- Despite already having 3 DT commits besides Hines, LSU offered aggy DT commit Dominic Livingston

So this guy is a good player and it would kill aggy if we stole him from them

D'shawn Jamison is due to announce next weekend. He is a great athlete
Beat ou then get a Jamison commit and its a good Saturday
If both happen then you could argue our program is on a role

daggy gonna daggy
Exactly! It is so pathetic to see them always (I mean, absolutely without fail) go to this "we should pay more than texas" line. Some things just never change.

[Good to be back after quite some time. You've been doing a great job with this recruiting thang, Joe! Thanks.]

Even though we have some stud DB's, wrs and tes coming in maybe our most important get will be the new kicker.
