2018 Recruiting - Football

Coach Herman mentioned recruiting generally a couple time at his luncheon --

Recruiting services for HS players are worthless
The best way to get a HS player in front of colleges is with a coach relationship.
Shipley is good for us as part of recruiting team. Sends bimonthly newsletters, etc out.
Wants to recruit locally but talent pool at OL was really low this year.

I dont know but best guess is that we told him we no longer have a spot
If correct, it means we got some good news from someone else

I had a guy at the gym tell me the exact same thing. I do take that as good news from someone else as well.

Thanks for the update Joe!. This prospect goes nicely in the class as a outside threat with pretty good speed and a fantastic catch radius. Goes well with the slot guy, Rondale Moore, a small speed burner with a knack for getting open and making big plays from the slot. I haven't been so excited about recruiting since Mack's heyday 2000-2009.

They recruit players for many sports from all over the country except Florida. It is a boarding school and they provide financial assistance. Very little difference from a college. In football they play teams from around the country but are not allowed to play for a Florida state championship. They are 37-3 in football since inception and will field two varsity football teams.

Hells jeah Alvonte!

Edit: After watching his highlights, this guy can fly. Just throw it deep and let him go get it. Also, that's a helluva a list of offers. Finally winning the battles with the national powerhouses

Thanks, another poster has kindly filled me in and though the 'recruiting' part is worrisome, my thoughts are that Herman was made aware and ensured nothing was involved that would jeopardize his eligibility. Or let's hope so, my favorite recruit so far

I just read Foster's scouting report on ESPN and they think he's best suited to play CB, which is news to me. I'd imagine Herman took Foster, Sterns and Overshown with a plan in mind to get them all on the field together, or maybe he just couldn't pass on any of them/wants depth. I'd assumed Overshown would be moved closer to the ball given his being bigger and ability to make ball carriers concussed, though that would kinda suck because it takes him out of space, where he would otherwise make a lot of opposing WRs get alligator arms. What're y'all's thoughts? (It's a slow Monday over here.)

I think no doubt that all three will get a lot of playing time. We're in a great situation with lots of options because of their talent. If we don't get CB Cook and the other CBs aren't as good as having Foster play CB and Overshown playing safety then that's an option. Or we do get some top notch CB's that can handle that position and keep Foster at safety and move Overshown to other places that gets after the ball. I could see Overshown getting to the QB quickly in passing situations. Our defense looks to be very fast and will close in on where ever the ball is. That's exciting to think about all the possibilities with this defense. I try to not get too hyped over what we might do each season, because lately it turns to disappointments. But it's really hard not to when athletes we have that were considered young last year have a full year of experience like Shane B with an offense that Coach Herman has and all the top recruits we are getting. Then the defense I think will be night and day. I think we have a chance for double digit wins this first season.

"If you want to be great, then be great!" Tom Herman
