2017 Recruiting?

From here on out, Herman can recruit the best athlete available. There are plenty of quality athletes at LB, S, WR, DE, DT and OL from Charlie's last two classes including some we had the luxury of redshirting in 2016. CB, TE and RB were positions of need and those have been addressed in the 2017 class. Personally, I think we need a fullback ... but maybe the position is becoming obsolete in high school and college, except at Arkansas.

Either of the two TE's that Herman has recruited (and assuming they actually show up on campus) can play as an H-back (TE or Fullback). Like the 18 Wheeler package it is not to hard to figure out the play if you just substitute a FB on third down.

Crockett, I was thinking the same with lots of potential at most positions. With about 12 senior scholarships (not sure if Trey Holtz had a schollie or if Sheroid Evins is done) plus D'onta and Locksley leaving plus a handful of as yet unidentified scholarship openings, there is room to firm up our depth.
My first move would be to add another QB. I like Buechele and Ehlinger looks like the real deal. Merrick may be capable but is an unknown. But an injury or two can put the Horns right back in the ditch.
I would always make room for a quality lineman. And more depth at DE is needed especially with Texarkana DE Carson's availability in doubt.

I'm not sure I know enough about the personnel that will be used to judge DL needs. In some 3-5 defense, the DE's play more like a DT, taking on blockers, holding gaps and leaving outside pass rushing to linebackers. Is Hagar going to be lineman or a linebacker?
Fitzgerald, who redshirted, is a strong guy who can take on blocks but still has the ability to get after the passer, may be a better DE for Herman's style ... Maybe Southall and Daniels will work at DE if you have Jefferson, McColloch and Fowler ready to rush from further out.

Same boat here regarding familiarity with 5-3 D.
I thought Fitzgerald was DE prospect from the getgo. The other guys look more like DTs size-wise but how they will be used in Orlando's defense will be interesting to watch. With Hager, Hughes and Omenihu, ought to be good at speed rush. I was thinking more in terms of stocking up for a couple years from now.

Chaisson finished with three sacks and 5 tackles for loss. Carter had 7 rushes for 48 yards with a TD. Nice day for both of them at the Under Armour game.

Yet another outstanding job of reporting. Looking at the kid's list, this Holland guy excludes offers he has from Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, although he did put down offers from Loserville and Arizona State. If we are recruiting head to head with Loserville and that piece of **** loser coach in Tempe, it's time to become a lacrosse school.

Get your stick and get on the field then. That is who we are indeed recruiting against. Them and everybody else. It is a tough dog eat dog recruiting world out there.

Cary,

My point was and remains that the idiot who wrote the article left out the primary "big dogs" that have offered the kid and chose to list Loserville and Arizona State. Any kid that chooses Loserville over Texas isn't smart enough to gain admission to The Forty Acres. Any kid that chooses a ******** school like Arizona State, aka the graduate school for BYU gads that can't get a job, particularly as long as that two-faced, lying piece of **** is head coach, is likely to continue to make poor choices and will likely meet the Travis County judicial system before he meets his counselor in Bellmont to pick his classes.

As for "getting my stick", it is my personal opinion that recruiting is easier now than it was when we were involved, although the TSA has made cashing in unused airline tickets easier to trace. But, yes, I was there when the kid told me SMU had bought his mother a new house (to my knowledge, the first in NCAA history) & gotten her a new job. I was there when Barry picked up the gambling debts of a family member; the 38 Nissan Z cars on the SMU football team from Warren Bankston; Arkansas fired the father of 5 when his son switched his commitment; UNC set an ACC record by having the first $100,000 football player. Want more?

I resent media "writers" with some hidden agenda. This juco kid has offers from big-time programs. Kinda like you driving by the Toyota store on your way to pick up your new Bentley and a reporter says you were seen at the Toyota store shopping for your new car. :beertoast:
