2005 National Champions

Just back from a trip to New Zealand that was delyed so that I could attend the National Championship game.

I left from LA the day after the game with not much voice left but with enough Rose Bowl and National Champions Horn t-shirts and sweatshirts and hats to wear a Horn shirt each day.

Talked to at least 40 people on the plane about the game including a few respectful Trojan fans who could not believe how good Vince is.

Throughout NZ people gave me the Hook-em and talked to me about the game.

The vacation would have been great anyway, but it put it over the top as I wandered around NZ still glowing from the game.

Congrats to all the Longhorns during the Mack Brown Era. all made this possible.

just a little special thanks to Cole, Chase, and the Pittman's, this National Championship is every bit something that i hope you enjoyed and deserved.

Thank you Mr. Young, you are clutch in cleats.

Sweat, hard work, tears of joy will remain with each of you, i hope each of you realize the fans love each and every one of you, even those that didn't see the field. we realize the days of hard work and sacrifice that made all this possible because it would not have happened without each of you.

It is still great! Thank you Longhorn players, coaches and staff for a great year. Good luck to Vince and the seniors as they move on and thank you for coming to UT! Once again to those returning next year and our new recruits let's go for it again in 2006!

It has now been over a month since our Championship victory and it is still as sweet. For those that did not go to the game it was life changing and inspiring. I have watched the video of
the game about 10 times now and I still get teary-eyed at the end. Nothing can come close to the
incredible feelings of joy after winning the game.
We must have stayed about 2 or 3 hours at the parking lot after the game enjoying soaking it all in.
Congrats to the 2005 National Champions Texas Longhorns for making a lot of our dreams come true. Thanks Vince, Mack, and all the players, coaches and fans. It has been a month and it still feels like yesterday!!

As we were riding around looking for a place to spend the night Saturday since our power was out due to a windstorm (that's what we get in the Pacific NW), my husband said - remember where we were a month ago today? It's just one of those times that will permanently remain in the memory - the joy, the excitement, the experience we will never forget.

Couldn't be sweeter that we beat USC with their two cocky Heisman winners and their 34-game winning streak in their home town. The Trojan team that made OU absolutely give up and quit the year before (a game the Sooners still haven't gotten over). With Mack Brown and Greg Davis who supposedly couldn't coach. With Vince Young who supposedly couldn't throw. A Texas team that supposedly couldn't win the big game. Couldn't have written a better movie script.

Was at the game, and the whole experience was completely surreal. I've watched the recording of the game over and over, and now over a month later, I'm not sure it has totally sunk in. When I think back to 1997 watching giddy baylor fans tear down the goalposts in Waco, I am amazed at how far we've come and what Mack Brown has done for this program and university. There are no adjectives to adequately describe how incredible this is.

haven't posted in a long time but feel the need.

was at sro on 1960 for the game. got ther at 5pm and the place was packed. got a table next to tony jeffrey's [sp] family.

when vince crossed the goal line with 19 seconds left, i was mobbed by people i had never met and likely never will again. had tears streaming down my face and totally unashamed. the place was absolutely exploding and i will never forget that night.

Having a major bad day at work. Escaped to lunch and got drizzled on. Suddenly, a smile on my face. Out of nowhere I thought:

Hey, the Longhorns are National Champions.

I expect that smile to sneak up on me about a hundred times in the coming year(s).

Thanks, guys.

Texas Longhorns, National Champions.

Has a great ring to it. Once I'm no longer broke, I'll be picking up the DVD.

Sometimes I think it still has not fully soaked into my brain that the Horns won it all on Jan. 4th... but we did! Our 4th NC after waiting 35 long years.

Had lunch with a Sooner friend yesterday and he asked if the glow had worn off yet. "No."

Still feel that it changes a lot of things. The fans see the program differently. It gives Mack and the program a nationwide legitimacy it otherwise might not have. I am sure Texas was already respected as a formidable program but winning the NC takes that up a discernable notch.

As an example, my Sooner friend talked about how the Horns proved themselves by "getting hit in the mouth" by USC and then coming back and making the plays on both sides of the ball to win.

It doesn't get a whole lot better than that.

VERY bellated congratulations Horns from a Buckeye. I became a fan on September 10 last year. You guys are a classy program, and had most of the Buckeye's support from that night. What a game. I can't wait until September 9th. Hopefully the results are a little different. Maybe be the stepping stone to a Buckeye MNC run this year? Seems like a fair trade off.

When VY scores the winning TD, when he starts to run you hear the crowd start to roar, the second he crosses the goaline, the explosion from the crowd is what my dad and I now refer to as the "35 year explosion." Swear Craig Way is fighting back tears on the call, but who wasn't?

I still watch the last six minutes of the game plus the post game show every couple of days, including today. It still gets to me--for some reason, even after watching it so many times, I tend to forget that VY runs it in on fourth down. And Lee Corso gushing after the game that VY is the greatest clutch quarterback in the history of college football never gets old to watch. And I feel so good for all those Texas fans at the game who explode after VY's tourchdown and sing the Eyes of Texas at the end.

I watch the Rose Bowl NC game video once or twice a week and still marvel at what that team and Vince did - it was incredibile Longhorn history we all saw

I only wish I had been at the RB in person to see it and experience the celebration explosion that took place that night in Pasadena!
