That was only a couple of months after his 18th birthday. Unfortunately, I can't seem to link it, but YouTube has his anchor leg at the 1976 State Track Meet. Considered by many to be the greatest feat in Texas HS history.

Can anyone post a video of that four man hidden ball kickoff return DKR loved so much and that featured Lam & RayClay?

Phil Harris, San Antonio Jefferson

One of four outstanding players from Jefferson on the '63 Natty team along with Hix Green, Anthony King and Tommy Nobis.
Harris caught three passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns in the 1964 Cotton Bowl. His average of 52.3 yards per catch was a bowl record that stood for 46 years.
He was inducted in the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame in 2010.

Harris was so HUGE in that game... Horns were a grind it out rushing team coming in the game vs. Navy.

DKR opened it up and Carlyle and Harris stunned the Midshipmen with an aerial attack, plus a smothering D on Staubach, won the game that day: 28-6 and the National Championship!

Only Longhorn I know of that had his own "fan club" that was organized. They actually wore t-shirts or jerseys with "Jeff Ward Fan Club" and were particularly visible at Disch Falk where they all seem to have season tickets behind home plate. (Not sure, but besides being female, I think the only other requirement was being over 70.)
