1sa,

I agree completely, but you know there is a plaque and photo of Freddie that the players touch on the way out of the locker room? In years past, the photo has traveled with the team to away games.

I wasn't aware of the traveling photo. That's great. But Freddie wasn't JUST a football player. I would like for there to be a visual reminder for everyone, not just the football team. Freddie was a once in a lifetime person who gave it all for the team. I'm not arguing, I just personally believe that Freddie deserves more than a plaque hidden away for only a select few to see. I wish he had a statue; maybe by DKR Memorial, by Littlefield Fountain, by the Tower...somewhere highly visible to everyone. His story is incredible & I wish we displayed that more than we do.

One of two 3X All Americans in Texas football history (the other being Russell Erxleben).
Held the team record for touchdown receptions (7) until it was broken in 1982.
Caught 9 of Bobby Layne’s 11 completions in a Cotton Bowl victory over Missouri, winning co-mvp.
Steelers first round pick.
Founder of Austin’s little league baseball program.
Longhorn Hall of Honor 1963.
Every year we do this and I don’t think he’s ever been mentioned, so this is way overdue.

Dick Harris 1945-1948. He is the only 4 -time all-SWC performer- three at center, one at tackle. . As a player he posted a 35-7-1 record when he played.

^^^ That win vs Nebraska in 1996 was absolutely EPIC. Nobody thought Texas would beat the Blackshirts and Mighty Nebraska!

I did. I bet an entire weeks paycheck vs a loud mouthed Nebraska co-worker that Texas would win outright. I never bet....almost never. He didn't pay up and eventually quit a couple weeks later and I'm still bitter to this day.

:hookem:

Sorry about the countdown timer going offline. I’ve been trying to get in touch with the guy who runs the back end for the thing but his site is down. I'll keep trying.

Wasn't T Jonathan Scott #79?

If so, I cannot pull up his photo on my phone....

Best memory ever: 4th down for OU at the Texas 5 yard line in 1977
Thomas Lott, Oklahoma's jet-fast quarterback, looked over the line and took the snap.

"Thomas took the ball down the right side," Shearer narrates now. "I just scooted all the way down the line and Thomas decided to cut it up."

The rest is in the UT history books.

"Johnnie hit him high and I hit him low.”

No gain.
