That was their prediction, and as we all know, they were WRONG!! 15-14!!

The months of buildup & hype to that EPIC game was like nothing until maybe 2006 RB vs. USC. There was so much on the line - the Horns HAD to WIN!

FayetteNam: VERY hostile environment, cold and damp, astro turf was in poor condition and hard to gain traction on. Our players kept experimenting with different cleats to see what worked best on the surface for them. Hawgs were VERY fired up and had a good D plan to slow / stop the Wishbone.

Horns had what 5-6 fumbles and at least 1 INT that day. Offense could not get any rhythm or sustain a long drive. Defense kept the Horns in the game by holding a dangerous and high scoring hog offense to 14 points going into the middle of the 4th quarter.

Then Horns / Street MAGIC!!! Street scrambling - long TD run, Street 2 pt. conversion, amazing Peschel catch, Bertelsen TD, Feller PAT for the lead with 6 minutes left. Tom Campbell INT sealed the win.

I was more stressed out for this game than any UT game in my entire life. I was worn out after the win. :hookem:

It was hard consoling Dicus and Montgomery after the game, but we tried, and then got out of that place as fast as we could.

Viper, dude! You attended THAT game!!? Where did you sit? You went out on the field / lockeroom exit after the game and consoled Dicus & Montgomery?

I think I would have feared for my life walking out of that stadium after that game...

I know @Texanne was at that game as she has often talked about it.

I was a Sr in HS & had just played my last game of football. I watched from 1,200 miles away in the comfort of my parents' den. Even though the environs were comfy, by game's end I had just about sucked an entire couch up my rectum (requesite "Recked 'em, hell; damned near killed 'em")

To this day, '69 Fayettenam & '06 Rose Bowl are among the best games I have ever seen. I still watch the replays whenever I can. It's what gives LHN its soul.

We were up high from the Texas band. Not bad as 4 went in for the price of 3 (math wasn't the ticket takers strong point and it was a mad house). [At the '05 game we saw a repeat, but the blond in front of us had to fork over $100 to the ticket taker.]

After the game we waited with Dicus' girlfriend for them to come out of the dressing room.

Two in our group were well lubricated by this time and made some comments about a single branch family tree. My car at the time was an ex-Dallas cop car so we were able to move fast, but I didn't breath easy until we got to Oklahoma.

Wow!! Great story!

What an allsome and unique game experience as a Longhorn fan that was!

FAYETTENAM, Razorback Stadium. A poor man's football stadium in 1969. Had capacity of about 40-45,000 IIRC.

UT band, athletic family, players families, big donors, friends of UT, season ticket holders, etc. I bet UT got 4,000 stingy tickets for that game.

You and your buddies were fortunate to snag tickets to that game!

One of two three-time All Americans (with Hub Bechtol) in Longhorn history. He is the only three-time AA punter in NCAA history. I was at the 1977 Rice game for his record 67 yard field goal. It might have been good from 75 yards. First round draft pick.
Even with a lighter, healthy Earl Campbell in 1977, there is no natty run without his punting and placekicking skills.
