0U stud WR arrested on two felony charges

Possessing a loaded firearm in the south, not such a big deal, but pretty dumb. But a stolen gun? There is usually a bag of **** that follows that type of activity around. Not exactly the same profile as a guy who gets drunk and gets into a fight. But that could be Stoop's lesson to learn. I wouldn't touch this guy

I would say minor in that our guys don't have stolen weapons on a HS campus. And for the reasons He's Not Here pointed out, it can get messy. He is a person who knows this first hand and for fact. I highly value his input in matters like this.

Were this a college campus, specifically UT, he would be kicked out of school. Heck this has happened a couple times in the past years and both students were dismissed from attending school here any longer.

I like to think that any HS this happens at would do the same, kick him out and disallow him to attend in that district, period. He can get a GED or transfer somewhere far, far away. If that makes him ineligible to play football anywhere but OU, of course, so be it. He is old enough to suffer the result of his decisions.

I don't think that what he did was the end of the world or as bad as robbery or shoplifting but it could be worth a bit more punishment. Were I a parent of a kid at that school I would want more to be done.

Hey, look at you, depotdog, you found the rolley eyes emoticon! Yay for you. Great input and witty retort. Thank you.

I would say taking a loaded, stolen gun onto a high school campus, hiding it in your waistband, and most likely intending to enter the school with it is far worse than shoplifting.

What kills me is that the kid showed no remorse and no apprehension at all about what his actions might have meant for his future. He just brushed it aside as though every day, somewhere in America, there is a college-bound athlete stealing a gun and walking into a high school with it concealed on his person. It speaks volumes about his character and the way he expects to be (and likely will be) treated at OU. You've got a real winner on your hands, Sooners.

As for legal issues concerning Texas players, I don't think you will come across a real Texas fan who wasn't embarrassed and downright furious about every single incident. But you'll never hear Mack Brown excusing it with the patended Stoops "we still have high hopes for his academic and athletic future here" speech. Kinda goes along with that saying about life being 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it. And Mack Brown's response has been quite different than Stoops's.

After the rash of school shootings in the last 10 years I can't imagine reducing this to a misdemeanor. Every once in a while you hear about a kid forgetting about the hunting rifle and he still gets kicked out of school and sent to alternative. A stolen gun is a totally different situation. Let him go to Norman. Just keep him out of Texas. Stolen guns are found on criminals. Why is that so hard for Stoops to understand?

Also interesting that 73 disappeared now that the charges have been basically dropped.

Hell, 73 predicted the charges would be dropped and that nothing would be done.

When I was in high school, I remember going to a school board meeting (part of a class assignment) where the board was discussing a zero tolerance policy for finding a gun in a kid's vehicle parked on campus. They eventually decided against zero tolerance because of the hunting rifle issue. One of the board members raised the question of a kid whose dad goes hunting in the kid's vehicle, leaves a rifle in it, the kid doesn't notice it until he gets to school on Monday, if he notices at all, a security guard performs a random check of vehicles in the student parking lot, and spots the gun. Is expelling that student really in the best interests of anyone involved?

But I agree there's a huge difference between that and a kid who knowingly tries to conceal a loaded and stolen handgun in his pants. That has to be considered a very serious crime, regardless of whether or not the person has any priors. This kid got out of his car, went to the back to grab the hidden gun, and stuffed it down his pants. His intentions clearly were not honorable.

As others have said, you don't find decent, respectable people toting stolen guns around in their waistbands (or anywhere else, for that matter). Stoops is an idiot. He is setting a dangerous precedent, and he is just begging for another disaster.

Why does this surprise us? ou I can understand is ou, but the state of Georgia? It was stated as fact that it was an automatic felony and 2yr. sentence to do what he did. Why does the judge waffle? Hmmm!

Obviously this judge is in a job that he gets paid to not do anything at all. He must be a current player.

People in glass houses should not throw stones. I remember actual Texas players doing much worse recently. This is a HS kid who screwed up and was sentenced under a law that allows for a lighter sentenced for someone who has never committed a crime before. Now if he screws up while at OU he'll be gone quickly.

“We expect to have Josh on our roster this fall and look forward to a long and successful career for him both academically and on the football field,” Stoops said in a statement. “He became involved in a situation at his school during his senior year that certainly has caused us concern. At the same time, we have personal knowledge of Josh through our recruiting contact with him and from personal references from his school and individuals of authority in his life.”

“We feel that he will be a positive contributor to our campus. We have already stressed to him that his citizenship is of the utmost importance. He understands that anything less than exemplary behavior will not be tolerated.”

Stoops forgot to add:

"Afterall, Jerry Parks and Zarak Peters were his mentors. This kid is going to have a damn good time in the dorms."

I have not seen Stoops keep someone around like that perrilox (sp) at LSU. I mean he is in HS and has yet to come to Campus. If this happen while a player for OU and not (keyword) a recruit to play at OU then I would be concerned. You take the past years with Stoops and it is a pretty clean record you take Mack Brown's record and all in all it is a pretty clean record. He is a star recruit and if he didn't play at OU he would play somwhere.

How dare you, Chango! You forget you are trying to speak facts and use good examples to a fanbase that thinks it is okay to cheat throughout history, time and time again. To cheer for them and think that cheating as a habit is a good thing, worthy of respect and denial.

Shame on you. Slap your own hand.
