Hell, 73 predicted the charges would be dropped and that nothing would be done.
When I was in high school, I remember going to a school board meeting (part of a class assignment) where the board was discussing a zero tolerance policy for finding a gun in a kid's vehicle parked on campus. They eventually decided against zero tolerance because of the hunting rifle issue. One of the board members raised the question of a kid whose dad goes hunting in the kid's vehicle, leaves a rifle in it, the kid doesn't notice it until he gets to school on Monday, if he notices at all, a security guard performs a random check of vehicles in the student parking lot, and spots the gun. Is expelling that student really in the best interests of anyone involved?
But I agree there's a huge difference between that and a kid who knowingly tries to conceal a loaded and stolen handgun in his pants. That has to be considered a very serious crime, regardless of whether or not the person has any priors. This kid got out of his car, went to the back to grab the hidden gun, and stuffed it down his pants. His intentions clearly were not honorable.
As others have said, you don't find decent, respectable people toting stolen guns around in their waistbands (or anywhere else, for that matter). Stoops is an idiot. He is setting a dangerous precedent, and he is just begging for another disaster.
