I don't get that feeling at all.
You do not see parallels in the way Stoops outcoached Mack Brown to the way Riley is outcoaching Herman?
1. ... We have great assistant coaches all around.
I think you are in the minority on this. Havent you at least been skeptical of the performance of our secondary since the start of the year? Dont you see regression among key starters? What about the defensive scheming overall?
The fact is OU has probably the best offensive mind in college football in Riley,
Which is another way of saying they outsmarted/outcoached us, which is what I wrote.
.... but their other coaches aren't superior to what we have at Texas.
If not head-up record (we are now 1-3 v ou), which metric do you think is better for that comparison?
I will give them credit for one thing. They are willing to do whatever it takes to win, including cheating. Until we are willing to sink down to their level, we are going to have to just out talent them in order to beat them.
Football is #1 in their priorities, this isn't the case at Texas.
I think our football program should be about this too.
On the cheating, if you mean off-the-field, then this is why I give Royal/Akers a pass head-to-head against Switzer who may have been the biggest cheater in NCAA history. It's tough to compete fairly against that if you are trying to run a clean program. But, IMO at least, that part has been level from Mack Brown forward. So, not the same excuse.
If you mean on-the-field cheating, like what Riley does. I am not sure what to do about that. If there is any certainty in life, it is that the Longhorns will never get any level of fairness and understanding from Big 12 refs. So, we are unable to appeal to them. And quite frankly, I suspect that if we
stooped to their level and played the exact same way Riley-coached teams do, Big 12 refs would be flagging us right and left. It's how they roll. So, that is a bit of a quandary. In that Scipio article I posted in the ou thread, he had ideas about how to play against it. I dont have any better ideas than that. And it doesnt appear our coaches even had this much going for them.
