2020 Recruiting - Football

Joe Fan, 24/7 has Texas at 26 behind ou, aggy and TCU of all people. 2020 might be a small class, but anything out of the top 10 is concerning. I realize the total scholarship numbers Texas will be down in 2020 but pushing that far down? Is some of the luster off Herman and Texas or is it time for Herman to produce a Conference Championship and quality play in the playoff?

After a marquee win in the Sugar Bowl it's hard to believe any luster is off. If we're still in the 20's come October that's more than concerning but not now.

For me it was a marqee win on paper only, but I think Georgia was somewhat deflated by not making the playoffs. But on the other hand we did play without a couple of starters.

Georgia made it clear they werent taking the Sugar Bowl off. They werent uninterested. Texas just beat them straight up. That was a win on the field.

Didn't think we were going to get him if he was sincere about playing with his OL teammate since it was pretty clear he was going OOS and loved Bama. Was really hoping he wasn't really a packaged deal and had a chance cause he looks like the biggest "can't miss" RB in years.

No, the players that we are after are just enjoying the process and will commit later in the year. Recruiting rankings don't matter that much this time of year. Aggy was at #1 last summer and we were around #10 and look how that ended. We're in the running for a lot of great players who have said they wanted to take their visits first. A few of them come in and we're back in top 10 pretty quickly. Plus wait until summer swimming pool party first. We seem to get a good bump after it. Come October if we are this low then worry.

I feel like we're a year or two away...Texas did great last year, but I think we need a couple more years of on the field success to start getting national recognition......For instance, OU is rolling the last 4 years....11-2 the last two years of Stoops and 12-2 each season under Riley. That's difficult to recruit against....and Aggy, well forget it I mean SEC SEC SEC JIMBO JIMBO JIMBO STADIUM STADIUM STADIUM but 3rd to 4th in division......oooooooooooopppppsss

ef
but i understand his sentiment if he's a front runner and has no real allegiance here. we are still up-and-coming. and he doesn't care to bring Texas back to its glory.

My sense is that he is focussed on the NFL and picked 5 schools that have much better recent histories of putting RBs in the NFL

Well there is truth in that but if a player is a difference-maker on his team and has measurables he will get noticed by a scout no matter what team he plays on. So I say if Texas comes in real prominence with a good season by going to playoffs and he's making a difference Scouts will take notice. I also think that other teams are getting in his ear with negative recruiting. I believe that we are going to have real real good offensive line play with herb at the coaching him. That's too bad because he would have opportunity to shine. So maybe that will fall into bijan's lap or perhaps Ty Jordan's lap. We gonna be good in the coming seasons- a playoff threat

I’m not mad at these kids that choose not to come here. I’m upset that for whatever reason we aren’t getting these kids when we had momentum from last season and the Sugar bowl. The team we beat in the sugar bowl is on his list, but we can’t keep this kid at home at THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS. What are our coaches doing? Not even talking about Bru McCoy might transfer. But we have missed on several big names from our home state going to out of state schools. We can break down every kid’s decision and make excuses why they chose other schools but our overall closing rate is just pathetic for the class of 2020. It’s hard to get momentum from other kids when this happens.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on one point. He isn't a can't miss prospect. He is good, very good, and it's sad that he isn't including Texas on his list, but he is coming from a school that is absolutely loaded with college talent. I always say beware of kids from Aledo because their stats are multiplied by the talent and coaching around them. North Shore is the same way.

I'm not taking anything away from Evans, he is a great prospect, you don't get a SPARC score of 136 and not be considered a major talent. I'm just saying he isn't a can't miss prospect. There is only one "can't miss" running back that I have seen, it's the RB from California, Kendall Milton, he is the total package as far as I'm concerned.

1 Quit losing to Maryland
2 Put some people in the NFL as high draft picks
3 Win the Conference
4 Beat Oklahoma regularly
5 Make playoffs regularly

Do those things and the talent will come. We are still feeling the direct effects of the Charlie Strong years and will be for another 3 years. Herman needs time to get his guys in place but also needs to show he can produce on a regular basis. Yes we are moving in the right direction but we need more than 2 years of proof. The Big 12 conference began in 1996 and we have won the conference 3 times in that span, blOwU has won it like 13 times, and all of those have been since 2000. These kids who are about to be seniors were born in 2002.

If we do your list then we are Bama or Clemson. Your same list applies to LSU as well replacing OU with bama and Maryland with Troy who they played at home for homecoming weekend and they are in Evans top 5 list. LSU has done none that’s on your list and their 2020 class is in the top three right now. Plus we got top 3 two years in a row. How do you explain that when we didn’t do any of the things on your list? We had momentum with top 3 back to back years and finished strong beating a team that many thought was a playoff team. Our coaches aren’t closing because he was high on us just two months ago.

Oklahoma has done this regularly yet we still manage higher classes than them. Look it would have been nice to land the kids but what he said was sort of true. We haven’t had a great feature back in a while. The conference as a whole actually but I credit that to the leagues style of play. Not saying we won’t ever land any top running backs but to get to the point where we can say hey we want you let’s go it’s going to be a while at that position hopefully Ingram can start the trend.

Agree but I think we are all getting a little spoiled (I'm at top of that list). We have been really, really bad since these kids have been looking at schools and Herman has got us playing hard and tough. It's been amazing to see how well he has recruited and coached the lack of talent up to a 10 win season and 2-0 in bowls. This year is going to be tough to improve on last season unless we stay 100% healthy at every position except for wide-outs and safety. I've been focusing on 2020 since Herman was hired, that hasn't has changed for me.

There are some very good (4* level or better) RBs seriously looking at us. Losing Evans hurts, but if we sign at least one of them, we're ok.

Or we are Georgia, or we are Oklahoma, or we are LSU.

It's not about just being Clemson or Bama, the schools he picked have put lots of running backs in the NFL, they are all great at running the football and they all have dominate offensive lines.

We are a two seasons away from having a offensive line that is equal to those schools when it comes to run blocking.

And how do you know he was high on us 2 months ago? I maintain he has never been high on us, going back to comments he made before last season he has been questioning Texas all the time.

I have stopped believing the recruiting experts that cover Texas long ago, they are there to blow smoke up our asses, that is why I don't subscribe to any of them. This kid has been about Bama and LSU forever and he will pick one of those two. Georgia is too far as is Ohio State, blOwU is just a vacation, and nothing more.
