Your BEST o.u. memory.....

1977 was my favorite, 2005 a close second.

In 77 it was truly like getting rid of a demonic spell. They kicked us around for five years, then the 76 tie ( both teams had down years in 76 yet it was a well played game). I can't describe the joy after that game. Unbelievably physical, hard fought.

After Aune left the game, I had no idea who our #3 qb was, but he earned a spot in Longhorn football lore that day. Too many big plays by big game players to detail (Steve hall blocks, Earl leaping over a safety for a score, Erxleben making a monster difference, Bruce Scholtz running down Freddie Nixon like a cat on a rat, Randy to Alfred on a huge third down etc)

The Austin pbs station replayed that game a couple of times , as mentioned they aired it live as well. Didn't miss a play. What a classic game

From that link:

49. Oklahoma
> Poverty rate: 16.1% (13th highest)
> Unemployment rate: 4.2% (15th lowest)
> Obesity rate: 33.9% (8th highest)
> Pct. of adults w/ bachelor’s degree: 24.6% (8th lowest)

Adults in Oklahoma report an average of 4.1 poor mental health days a month, slightly more than the 3.7 days reported by the average American adult. Unfortunately since many residents do not use their mental capabilities at all, this often goes unnoticed and untreated. In addition, the lack of quality higher education options in the state forces the more intelligent residents to attend college in Texas, where they inevitably stay, thus further exacerbating the problem.

For many Oklahoma residents, well-being is undermined by poor health behaviors and outcomes. About one in every three adults in the state get no exercise beyond leaving the house to go to work, and even then, the behavior comes with risks, as the energy to climb down the cinder-block steps from the front door often leaves them winded, forcing them so spend long hours sitting in front of their trailers smoking.

In addition, they suck and they know they suck, and no amount of cheating and winning in football games can ever take that stain away.

I can't remember whether this was the 1975 or the 1976 game, but Texas had been recruiting on defense like crazy to slow down the OU offense that had been steamrolling everybody in those years. Bam Bam
McMichael was young, and very new to the defensive line but he was supposed to be good, so I kept my eyes on him on every play. I kept telling my dad: "Look, the offensive linemen can stand him up sometimes, but they can't move him!" I was so excited for his, and the defense's, future at Texas.

ou won 24-17 in 1975
Bitter 6 - 6 tie in 1976

From Freer TX, McMichael was an early force.

WOW! horrible question

1) 1979 DEFENSE held OU to five first downs (2 on penalties, 2 on busted plays, one earned) Until that last busted play gained 15-20, OU's million dollar offense had (IIRC) 79 yards total offense

2) Earl hurdling Steve Hall (our TE from Tulsa) heading to the Southeast endzone and all those screaming cretins from the DustBowl.

3) Stoney Clark

4) Richard Peavy's hit on Marcus Dupree on Dupree's last play as a Sooner. The icing the cake was watching Barry through binoculars as he went running out on the field yelling at Dupree to get in the huddle. Barry got about half way to the hash mark and ran out of cord. Damn near tore Switzer's head off.

This will be my 57th in a row, so I'm sure I'll think of more.
1981 - Great defense, lead by Kenneth Simms, shut down sux. I remember Simms beating at least 2 sux linemen to stop a late 4th and short play. Also, my student ticket draw put me near the 50, close enough to abuse the sux fans. Good times.

I was also at the Edwin Simmons game in 82 or 83. Edwin was an absolute beast. I thought he would be the next Earl.

Yes, Gardere was a FRESHMAN....and YES!!! it was the LOUDEST I have ever heard a TEXAS crowd at that game. The sooner side is deafening sometimes....especially back in the early '70's when they had previously lost to TEXAS 13 out of 14 times dating back to DKR arriving on the scene....

Man, Gardere was awesome against OU. Think I was just out of college at UT, and went to all four games when he dominated. Great mental legacy for him, I hope.
