Until we get five OL smart enough to recognize a simple stunt, the play calling is very limited.

When we can’t recognize a zone blitz, the play calling is very limited.

RJ is the only RB that can read a defense, but then be has to decide which of the three rushers the FIVE OL will leave untouched.

I guess I’ve gotten so old that the game has passed me by, and assistant coaches no longer teach assignments and adjustments.

I agree with this. I know that everyone wants Bijan to get more carries but if you watch the plays in which he tried to pass protect in last week's game- he struggled. Pass protection is more that just our ****** OL.

Remember we tried running the ball almost exclusively for most of the 1st half against Baylor. It didn't work very well.

Yep...There is a reason RJ started the season as RB1...and I am convinced we likely have 1 more W if he hadn't got banged up. I would like to see Bijan a little more....but as you point out it isn't that simple with a young back learning the other responsibilities. RJ has earned his spot and also offers the intangible of bringing the contagious toughness and assertiveness this team sorely needs. I hope he is 100% this Saturday.

If true it should be 0% starting with the 2021 Spring Semester. If the scholarships are annual, they should have a get-out clause permitting the University to terminate the scholarship for actions detrimental to the University. Also, Band Faculty leadership should be terminated tomorrow for the same reason.

The fact that Texas isn’t in a position to be a heavy favorite and at a point where the country doesn’t assume they will win is enough evidence for me to feel like, despite what happens, TH needs to go IF we have a heavy hitter coach in the chamber. I just haven’t seen anything to convince me otherwise.

WVU has a pretty salty defense

Boyd makes it sound like Sam might get killed today

" ... West Virginia’s defensive line features the famous Stills bros in the middle, but between them they only have 5.5 of the Mountaineers’ 20 sacks this season. What that tells you, beyond the fact that West Virginia has other players that can run after the quarterback, is that teams’ attempts to shut down the Stills brothers have not gone unpunished.

* * * West Virginia can bring four and five man pressures that create 1-on-1 matchups across the front with great athletes. The Cyclones can bring good pressure off both edges while dropping eight into coverage and blow up your weaker offensive tackle. Kansas State will drop six or seven, bracket your top guy, and find a way to game a well-taught defensive end into a 1-on-1 isolation with a weaker offensive linemen.

If Texas fails to make the Big 12 championship game it’ll be because the offensive line failed to protect Sam Ehlinger well enough to stay healthy and make plays in close-fought games that are surely coming. If they had a center that could allow Derek Kerstetter to move back to tackle (assuming he was still up to speed out there) that could be the difference, as it stands things will instead probably hinge on cleaning up their protection schemes and improving on the right side with Denzel Okafor and Christian Jones....

He’s right about the Stills brothers and the WV D front. This should be the toughest test for our OL thus far. That inspires me with much confidence.

I “Still” think we will take the win, but Sam may take some hard knocks.

Sounds like Sam is going to be running for his life all day
And going to be even worse if we cannot generate a run game

I noticed that on some of the longer and mid range passes, we were leaving the RBs in to pass block. Sometimes we needed to. It would be nice to be able to get them out in the flats or on wheel routes for the vast majority of pass plays, but the OL needs to improve on the slower-developing routes. Some of our past teams have made a living on passes to the RBs in the flats. If the opposing LBs aren't very fast, it's hard to get there and make the tackle before the RB already has 5-10 yards on a little swing pass/pass to the RB in the flats. I think Bijan is well suited to this sort of play based on his HS film.
And there it is! Little swing pass in the flats to Bijan. He turns it upfield for about 30 yards to put the game away.
