Would SEC kick A&M to the curb

Of course it makes no sense to an Aggie, very little does. They wanted Utah because of Majeris and wanted to substitute them after Stanford & Berzerkley would not accept Colorado or aTm because of academics.
So if I understand you correctly, UT and CU were going to join the PAC in the late 80's. But the University of Colorado (an AAU member since the '60's) was a no-go because of academics. Instead Utah (which was 30 years away from an AAU invite) was the substitute to accompany UT in joining the PAC because... Rick Majerus?

Perhaps UTEP was also in play because of Don Haskins. Maybe the PAC didn't have a problem with A&M's academics, they just didn't like Shelby Metcalf. A conference with the likes of Arizona State, Oregon State, and Washington State would not turn their noses up to adding Colorado.

Having gone to the Graduate School of Business at CU, and dealt with the administration and the legislature of the state, both the school and the state are financially bankrupt and sign contracts and make deals which they cannot deliver on or fulfill. (So is California)

Why UCLA wanted Utah, I have no idea other than what I was told. CU is no where near Tier One and never will be. You are correct that the Arizona schools and the cow colleges add little or nothing to the PAC other than TVs.

The PAC has four Tier One schools with two more bumping at the door.

The Big XII has one Tier One School

The SEC has three Tier One Schools

As for UTEP, absurd comment. Contracts are about TV, and El Paso can't count Juarez TVs.

What is your definition of "Tier-One"? Because according to the Texas Legislature there are 3 Tier-One universities in Texas.

All this new talk about UT and OU going to the SEC got me thinking about the thread title...

"Would SEC kick A&M to the curb?"

The situation that would meltdown College Station into a pool of radioactive glass is if:

1. UT and OU join the SEC
2. The SEC "kicks A&M to the curb"
and...

3. The SEC ads Texas Tech to replace A&M

(not going to happen, but the meltdown would be a radioactive meltdown indeed...)

:lmao:

The worthless maroon ****-stains deserve no less.

What is your definition of "Tier-One"?

USN&WR annual listing defines "Tier One" and the "Public Ivies" and has been the standard for decades - meaning the Top 50 in ranking. Rice always comes in in the teens, Texas in the 40s. SMU made giant strides to get up to the mid 50s, but slipped back to low 60s.

While many consider Texas to be a "public ivy", I have been reluctant as our administration waffles so poorly. Public Ivy = Berzerkley, Michigan, UNC, UVA.

Texas, UGA, Florida, Wisconsin, UCLA would like to break into that club.

As for the Texas Legislature, those morons can't spell "Ivy", much less identify with one.

I’m going to pop a gallon or two of popcorn this weekend and wade through all threads at texags re UT, OU, and SEC. Should be entertaining and enlightening.

Just came from Texags, the butt hurt is real. Aggie is pissed the SEC negotiated without them and our trying to play hard ball by leaking information to a relatively unknown sports writer for a newspaper in Houston that no one reads unless it is spread on the bottom of a bird cage.

That would be hilarious, but I don't see it happening. OU, Texas and aggy will most likely be part of the same Division, and another current SEC team will be selected to go the other SEC division. If the B12 does disband and the other schools land in other Conferences, one team will be left out. Most of the folks I've asked, and those folks are not involved but are merely fans, seen to think that Baylor will not find a new home in a P4 conference assuming the B12 dies, but I believe when the shuffle is over, there will be 4 Power conferences each with 16 teams, 8 teams in two divisions for each conference. But, if there is one thing I've learned when it comes to conference realignments, the decisions are made by minds which are much smaller than ours.

Brent Zwernaman is not just any writer for the Chronicle. He is the Aggie sports beat writer for them and the Hearst paper in San Antonio. I’ve been reading him in the SA paper for years. He is hardcore Aggie. This story is more reliable because it came from him. Question: did he get the story from inside Aggieland or was his high source in the SEC from outside? And if from inside Collie Station, why did they leak it?

The rumor is that the athletic director leaked it to try to get support from the SEC voters and the lame Texas Legislature to stop it. Oops, Baylor alum and others filed a bill but the legislature can't vote on it and SEC voters are under the spell of their very gifted commissioner. Bowlsby is still lost, the remaining 8 have few options (ranging from bad to worse), and Aggie BOR schedules a meeting on Monday to flail around together in a show of solidarity. And before all this, there was no love for one of the most hated teams in the country.

"Seriously, the only reason the Aggies are the only ones crying to hard about this is because you guys left the Big 12 for the SEC because y'all didn't want to compete with Texas for recruits.

"Maybe just stop being weird as hell and people would want to go to your school. Seriously, I think if most teams in the SEC knew about y'all's weirdo traditional like "nut squeezing" and the "jizz jar" they would have rejected y'all.

"I'd like to make the proposition of trading A&M back to whatever conference will have them for OU and UT.

"Making out with your dates every time someone scores? Is it seriously that hard to get laid as an Aggie? I'm honestly shocked your school hasn't been cancelled yet.

"Also, PLEASE stop considering yourselves as part of the “haves”. Try putting together a winning season then come talk to me. Most of the “wins” in your football history are made up or questionable at best. You don’t get an award for being the first Texas team in the SEC. You also don’t come in and try to tell us how to run our conference. We don’t care about what a made up “military” school is saying. Want to talk about a real insult to our troops? Most aggie traditions."

^ Reminds me of why we were so happy to to say au revoir* to the aggy when they left for the SEC.

*we mistakenly thought it meant "get lost and stay that way"

The solution to not playing the aggies couldn't be more simple. Don't join the SEC. Until last Wednesday 95% of the board wanted nothing to do with them and the rest of the SEC. Now the money and higher profile makes it a great idea. What the F ever.

The intestinal distress being suffered by aggy due to our impending move to the SEC makes it worth the annoyance of having to deal with them again.

Texas, UGA, Florida, Wisconsin, UCLA would like to break into that club.

UCLA is the highest-ranked public university in the country. There's no argument to leave them off of the Public Ivy list.

The PAC has four Tier One schools with two more bumping at the door.

The Big XII has one Tier One School

The SEC has three Tier One Schools

I would add that the B1G has 4 (Northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois) and the ACC has 3 (Duke, UVa, UNC). The Big XII is the least academic of the major conferences, hands down. If affiliating with an academically strong conference is a significant factor, then moving pretty much anywhere makes sense.
