Would SEC kick A&M to the curb

I really don't think "realignment" is going to be driven in the same manner as last time around. In a relatively short period of time we have gone from a hand full of games on Tv each week to almost every game (except Texas A&M v PVAM) being televised somewhere. My guess is that future negotiations will involve bigger payments for the best games rather than a giant payment for all games in the conference. This will encourage better out of conference schedules and maybe eliminate or limit the power of conferences at least in football.

As far as Mo and Nebraska, Nebraska and Mo. would do themselves a favor if they came back. If the SEC benefits from being in Texas so would Mo and Nebraska. KU v Mo is a special Basketball rivalry and Nebraska will never compete for power over tOSU, State Penn, Michigan or even Wisky. The money, exposure and stability is not that different between conferences (except SEC) and Nebraska does have an excited fan base who had to sue the Big to play football until tOSU decided they wanted to play 5 games.
How has the SEC benefitted by being "in" Texas besides the in-footprint subscription fees for the SEC Network?

Sangre,

Ease up on the kid. There are certain levels of pathetic that are unimaginable to others. One of those is an Aggie, who although he thinks he knows the history and traditions of his school, in reality is and always has been on the outside looking in. I have some good friends among the old Aggie "inner circle" - you know the guys that were certain that Smith was getting them the death penalty, that arranged the aTm president's "vacation" to Frio County, that hung Dockery out to dry, and that fired Jackie.

A&M is a school run by a handful of alums, and that's the way it's always been, although it may have taken more than one to replace Bum Bright and/or Claytie. (Really liked Clayton, particularly when he hopped in the back on my car with Fred and me to "go show these T-sips how to recruit. He had two sixpacks with him.)

He's probably here to learn since he cannot penetrate that inner circle and/or get his questions answered there.

Recruiting really is strange but Lsu and Bama and others seem to be able to recruit in Texas more than in the past. LSU always had e Texas inroads but Bama and other sec seem more viable in recruiting.
For whatever reason, Colorado, Mo. and Nebraska seem to be on the outside looking in after years of fairly steady Texas recruiting, (sec) Arkansas is the best example of a disaster after leaving the SWC.

The narrative that Texas recruiting has been opened up to the SEC doesn't really comport with reality. Over the first 7 years A&M was in the SEC the number of recruits that signed with SEC schools was almost identical to the number signed the 7 years before A&M joined (see chart).

From a logic standpoint it makes sense. Auburn getting to play one game in Texas every other year isn't really a selling point. Now, if Auburn were to join the Big12, they would be able to say "We play multiple games in Texas every year". CO, MO, and Neb all lost that selling point when they left the Big12.

Bama is a different animal. They are on an historic run of championship football that likely will never be repeated. They (and Ohio State to a lesser extent) can waltz into a recruit's house in any state and get a commitment.

HIC,

Ever had Seaport Dark Roast? Community wishes it was that good. All you have to do is whistle and it will get up and walk to you

All you need to know is that it would have sent A&M to the SEC in the early 90s because the PAC10 didn't want their academics. That was step one.
IMHO, there are many problems with aTm.
Academics isn't one of them.

Prolly a pretext for Coastal snobbery, or their disdain for something else about the ags (there are plenty of things to pick from there...).

Chop,

Sorry, but it WAS academics. That is the same reason they chose for rejecting Colorado, who wanted to go. UCLA persuaded Berzerkley and Stanford to accept Utah, because at that time they wanted Utah's basketball coach Rick Majeris in the PAC.

As for academics, Aggies support Aggies, but the school is not now and never has been knocking on the door of Tier One. They allowed UGa, Florida, & SMU to blow by them the way my son's Ferrari blows by a Prius on I-10.

Majeris last coached at Utah in 2004. They officially accepted the invitation to become part of the Pac-12 in June 2010.

IDE,

Deloss’ plan was in the late 80s. First I heard of it was late 86 or early 87 and that was straight from him one on one in a restaurant parking lot in Houston.

I've asked some of my buddies that went to SEC schools how they like having aggy in the conference. Short answer: they don't. Longer Answers:

"Please take them back! Those are the most delusional group of fans anywhere!"
"All they talk about is beating Texas. They don't understand y'all aren't in the same conference or even play each other anymore?"
"Can't stand them! They say they don't lose games, they only run out of time. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard!"
"Dumbest group of fans I've ever been around."
"Those folk are nuttier than a pecan pie!"
"They're always doing y'alls hand sign down, yelling beat TU. That's just ignorant."
"They smell bad!"

Well, you guys get the picture.

If they're originally from the deep South, I'm sure they said, "pee-cann pie." Drives me crazy when I hear that.

UCLA lobbied for the addition of Utah because they liked Utah's BB coach? That makes absolutely no sense. That's like saying, Wisconsin persuaded Northwestern and Purdue to accept Nebraska because they wanted Nebraska's football coach Bo Pelini in the Big 10.

Of course it makes no sense to an Aggie, very little does. They wanted Utah because of Majeris and wanted to substitute them after Stanford & Berzerkley would not accept Colorado or aTm because of academics.
