Why are the Democrats still afraid of Donald Trump?

The idea that most companies that hire illegal immigrants actually don't know they are doing so is absolutely comical. It's absurd on its face - like a strip club owner claiming he doesn't know that funny business happens when patrons go into the back rooms.

It's pretty hard to crack down on people that you don't know exist. I don't expect employers to be perfect, but when guys are showing up with SS cards that are very obviously fake, I do expect the employer to do the right thing. Many of them do not, and those employers should be fined, and if they keep it up, they should be thrown in the slammer.

I can only speak for the corporations I worked for. None of the HR depts allowed employment to anyone with an obviously fake SS card. It's absurd to think this is the norm, but naive to think it doesn't happen to some extent.

We could do mid and large sized corporations a huge favor by locking down the border as best we can. Not to mention our public safety

What kind of industries are these businesses in? That makes a big difference. Software companies, accounting firms, or banks? Sure. Fast food restaurants, hotels, and construction companies? No chance in hell.

Do you think locking down the border would be a huge favor to (for example) Perry Homes?

As far as locking down the border, public safely depends on it. Read the DMN or watch channel 11 news. Every single day a murder, rapes, various assaults are commonplace now, perpetrated by illegals. Schools / education have been the biggest loser the past 20 years. It has to stop

It might help some to be able to ask for a SSN BEFORE you offered them a job.
E verify works when there is something hinky with provided information.
Many of the fake ssn ids do not trigger any scrutiny..

I can't speak for other "big box retailers" but Home Depot is a vociferous user of e-verify based on my peer conversations with the owner of the process there. The point is, there are tools available to verify the immigration status of your employees should an employer choose to do so. For those with government contracts they typically are required to do so. For others it's a choice.

Home Depot?? Go to any Home Depot in East Dallas County or the one in rockwall and tell me how many dozen of those employees are obviously illegals. Practically half the employees not behind a counter barely speak English

That is bigger than thinking the Dims didn't commit fraud in the election like some around here think didn't happen. A lot of people have to be in on the look the other way at fake documents during hiring conspiracy.

Edit: Sort of being sarcastic here.

Probably right about defense electronics and aviation. Not buying it about any kind of construction. I've been around too many in the business to believe that.

I agree with you, but big homebuilder executives who live behind locked gates, have private security, and hire people who are barely literate in Spanish don't give two squirts of piss about any of this.

I'm "buying it " because I've seen it. I wasn't associated with the floor operations (mining and construction corp) but I dated a woman that was the HR lead. That group pulled their hair out because of the challenges they had with falsified documentation on a regular basis.

I know they used e verify. Or at least they did when I was hired. Yet they let go of guys on the shop floor pretty often. Usually 4 or 5 months after hired on, sometimes on a tip (one disgruntled worker ratting on a coworker).

Three factors at play. First, if you're a Democrat, Trump motivates your base in a huge way and turns off swing voters. It's greatly in their interests to keep Trump at center stage and to tie as many Republicans to Trump as possible. (See Terry McAuliffe v. Glenn Younklin.) If Trump went away, I think it would greatly dissipate the benefit of this, but until he does, they're going to make him an issue as much as possible.

Second, if you're the media, chatter about Trump boosts ratings and therefore advertising money. People who hate him and people who love him will all tune in. Definitely in their interests to keep Trump at center stage.

Finally, Trump makes himself a topic of discussion and can't give up the attention. Reagan and the Bushes mostly left politics (especially overtly partisan politics) behind after they left office. They didn't spout off. They didn't call for primary opponents against those who didn't support them enough. They largely kept quiet about their successors. Sadly, Reagan developed Alzheimer's and other health problems that greatly limited what he could do after leaving office. The Bushes became elder statesmen. They made speeches, wrote memoirs, raised money for charities, etc. like other former presidents did.

What's Trump doing? He's going after Republicans who didn't lick his nuts or stopped licking them too soon, getting loyalists to haggle over the 2020 election, etc. Well, that's newsworthy, and it's going to get people to keep talking about him for better or for worse.
spot on. Dem leadership is trying to paint a picture. Jan 6 = conspiracy to overthrow, DJT=Jan6, GOP support for Trump=GOP conspiracy to overthrow. Keeping DJT front and center motivates the base and sustains this narrative. They are not afraid of him, they see him as their biggest "negative-branding" tool. 40% of this country dislikes him immensely. Unfortunately for GOP, Trump won't shut up and keeps trying to hitch his wagon to other GOP and take credit for their efforts and wins.

Not following. SSN validation is done an an onboarding step. Every company I've been associated with (some retail) always make the job contingent on completing the background check and I-9 verification. Without e-verify you are 100% reliant on that person doing the onboarding doing a visual check of the SSN and other documents.

Most of the time that's HR but in diffuse retail situations that's a store manager or a front line supervisor at times. Their motivation is different when they need employees and measured by the performance of their own team. If you are limited in pay for employees and are measured on output of widget production, steers slaughtered or hotel rooms cleaned, you might look the other way when an illegal immigrant showed you something that looked like an official document.

I've seen it happen first hand far, far too many times. Again, the fake document isn't designed to fool the employer.
