This is how you kick off a new year! This incoming linebacker core is ridiculous.

Anthony Wheeler is the man!

Wow, Rivals just raised Anthony Wheeler's national ranking from #238 to #76 .... One of the biggest jumps they had in their final rank list. How about that?

ESPN already had him at #66 and scout had him at #111 and 247sports had him at #136. (all of them higher than when he committed, which was before the final rankings came out at the services)

Man, what an LB class we just pulled in with Malik, Wheeler, Cherry, and Townsend (plus Hager who may become an LB/DE)!!

^^^ Sure!

.... But it means OU will try to put some more pressure on him, but it doesn't look like they will get him. He is nothing to worry about. Grades was an issue but IIRC I read that he had recently posted his latest grade card publicly and all is well with that.

That is a valid point, Hippie, however I don't think that Texas has the clout right now to have that affect, if it ever really did. I think it could have in the past and that we have not faded into Tyson's Bolivian, we are not the force that we were on the tip of people's tongues. I do think that we are going to be soon and deservedly so under Stong's watch.

I liked Mack, loved him actually, and was a big fan of his. Always will be and will appreciate what he did while here. But he's gone and I do have all belief in Charlie Strong.

When Texas used to offer only 30 guys and did most of that more than a year in advance, there were indeed some guys who got bumps, because Texas was the only place doing it that way (only Mack could do it!). But now these guys are all with so many offers from top places and the Texas offer is no different than other offers (well an offer from a Charlie or Muschamp may count a little bit more for a defensive recruit but not a hell of a lot). The ranking bumps that happen in the last month are always more legit. It may sometimes have to do with how hard the programs are fighting over a player, and often that is anyway an indication that the player is good. Wheeler's ranking correction looks legit to me, as rivals.com was only bringing their ranking closer to what the other services had for Wheeler. So they were just slow in correcting their poorer evaluation. Still it surprised me that it went straight up to where they put him even above scouts' and 247's ratings.
