You know how people say Mack Brown underachieved? Charlie Strong has to be the biggest underachiever of all time. He never won an outright conference title at Louisville. He has lost his division twice to better coaches at UCF with both Louisville and South Florida now. He only played two teams with winning records this year and lost to both! On top of it, he lost to 7-4 Houston at home. He never had a winning record in 3 years at Texas losing by 20 or more multiple times, losing to Kansas and getting shutout multiple times including 0-24 to Iowa State. He brings a culture of underachieving and players not living up to their potential. His best win this year was 6-6 Temple!
The talent on his team should be enough to destroy Tech worse than we should have beat Tech, yet South Florida is only 2.5 point favorites right now and I honestly dont know that Charlie will even win this game.
So Charlie gets all the blame for his failures but no credit for his successes.
Can't have it both ways.
Charlie Strong has 0 outright conference titles anywhere (he has 2 big east co-championships that were 4 way ties). For a lot of posters, Mack Brown who was 100X a better coach gets all the blame for failures and no credit for successes, yet Charlie Strong’s far greater underachievement gets defended and excused.
Charlie could have saved his name by winning his conference this year. Instead he proved himself an underachiever by failing to beat anyone with a winning record and only beating the teams at 6-6 or worse. (Yes, Stony Brook had a winning record, but come on, we are talking about an FCS team).
