What's the big deal with the pope

I'm shocked to find out that a couple of my Catholic friends that are, shall we say, "selective" about how they follow the teachings of that church are absolutely giddy about going to see the pope...l'm talking "Beatles on the rooftop" giddy.

Anybody going to see him? if so, why? What do you hope to take away from the experience? Is this a spiritual thing, or a rockstar thing?

I saw this online and I laughed.

i am going with my fiancee and some of her family/friends. i am new to the Catholic faith and am definitely not giddy or anything, but i am pretty excited about this.

Joe is a religious celebrity to many. Since religion is more and more like entertainment the Pope (Joe) is the front man for their group. People, especially the religious, tend to adopt a herd mentality and like to follow-the-leader. Well, their leader is a callin' and they be a followin'.

Joe was the past head of the Inquisition, you know (called something else now: "Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith" or something like that). Also, he's said (recently, iirc) that Catholicism is the only true faith.

Let's see if he has the balls to tackle the manner in which the Catholic hierarchy handled the priest pedophile problem.

Thanks for reminding me twice that I had a typo.

Technically it is not a bunch of guys selecting the next Pope, but the Holy Spirit (which is Christ which is God).
