What's Going on at University of Missouri?

#transblack, humm... not a bad idea. It gets around problems like this one. The CEO of Sam's Club, Rosalind Brewer was meeting with a group from a supplier and here is what she said:

“Just today we met with a supplier, and the entire other side of the table was all Caucasian males,” she added. “That was interesting. I decided not to talk about it directly with [the supplier’s] folks in the room because there were actually no female, like, levels down. So I’m going to place a call to him.”

You just explain to old Rosalind, who, of course, isn't a bigot because she's a black female and therefore cannot be a bigot, that you may appear Caucasian, but you actually transblack! Problem solved.

Yeah, we need to toughen kids up. Read more Hansel and Gretel and other Grimm's Tales and less of this Koala Lu I love You and Make Way for Ducklings. When you grow up thinking you're just a screw up or two away from being ditched in the woods, you respect/fear your elders more and don't whine about insignificant crap.

I THINK you're being serious ;) in which case I sort of agree with this...

The problem isn't the kids that are whiny idealists that want something for nothing. Kids have always been that way. The problem is that the adults in the room are giving in.

We've had a movement in this country for a while now to "encourage and empower" young people. Very well-intentioned, but the idea was that their voices were just as important as the older people, and in many cases the message was that "you old people could learn a lot from that little kid, because he sees the world more clearly." He also sees it much more simplistically, more innocently, and with less wisdom and experience. As I've been alive, I notice more and more that those last two qualities are being devalued more and more in our culture.

This is a generation who grew up hearing Whitney Houston sing "I believe the children are our future; teach them well and let them lead the way." Adults have been in a pretty big hurry during my lifetime to cede decision-making over to the kids. So now we have a generation of adults that are my age that think that their voice is no more important or valuable than that of the high-school or college-age kid who doesn't know anything about anything.

Students at Oberlin are in an uproar over the fried chicken, sushi and Vietnamese sandwiches served in the school cafeterias, complaining the dishes are “insensitive” and “culturally inappropriate.”

General Tso’s chicken was made with steamed chicken instead of fried — which is not authentically Chinese, and simply “weird.”

Others were up in arms over banh mi Vietnamese sandwiches served with coleslaw instead of pickled vegetables, and on ciabatta bread, rather than the traditional French baguette. “It was ridiculous,” gripes Diep Nguyen, a freshman who is a Vietnam native.

Worse, the sushi rice was undercooked in a way that was, according to one student, “disrespectful” of her culture. Tomoyo Joshi, a junior from Japan, was highly offended by this flagrant violation of her rice. “If people not from that heritage take food, modify it and serve it as ‘authentic,’ it is appropriative,” she said.

Oberlin’s black student union joined in the fray ,,, by staging a protest outside Afrikan Heritage House,,, The cafeteria there wasn’t serving enough vegan and vegetarian options and had failed to make fried chicken a permanent feature on the Sunday night menu,,,,Those students started a petition that also recommends the reduction of cream used in dishes, because “black American food doesn’t have much cream in it,” according to the Review.

I wonder why he'd want his sandwich served on the bread of his former colonial masters.

To all my Chinese, Japanese, Italian and Mexican friends -- I wish to humbly apologize for my Americanization of your food cultures. Please be aware that I was only attempting to create food that is appealing to the palate of myself, my family and friends who enjoy spicy foods. Also, forgive me for being oblivious to culturally insensitive aspects of the cuisine at various educational institutions I have attended. Honestly, when the food was edible I ate it cheerfully. When it wasn't I assumed it was just a combo of cheap ingredients and inexperienced cooks.

The NYE tweet got someone fired. The account is the official Twitter account for the "Times Square Ball," and the tweet was up for about half an hour before being deleted. But too late. The professionally offended class was professionally offended, and the person who sent it was fired.

Sooooo.... was she trying to say that her school was discriminating against white people? If that drinking fountain is for "colors" only, wouldn't that be reverse discrimination? Clearly we are dealing with a well thought out plan.

I could be wrong, but I think it's supposed to be "colored" or "coloreds" not "colors". Of course, like the lady that made that, I was not alive in the Jim Crow era and actually do not know what it was like either.

Maybe the water was coming from Flint...it seems to have colors.

All this time I've thought segregation was wrong and illegal. Apparently, that's only true if white people are doing it. Link.

Probably trying to make themselves relevant to that demographic...one site I looked at put the total black enrollment in Fall 2014 as barely 900 students (or 5% of the student body). And this article seems to suggest the dorm is designed to address 40 students.

They are destined to find what common sense should have told them...if a student is not motivated to graduate, then all the resources in the world thrown at them isn't going to solve the problem (if it is even really a problem...students drop out, it happens).

FB "unfriending" may now be considered 'workplace bullying.'

Saving grace was that was NOT in the United States...even as inept as some of our courts are, I am not sure they could stoop to THAT level of stupidity...

I hope someday the country will look back and laugh at how stupid UConn, Princeton, Mizzou, and all the other colleges that are bending over backwards right now were at this particular point in history.
