What's Going on at University of Missouri?

From what I can tell, this is an isolated incident specific to the University of Missouri campus. The other possibility is that this is a precursor to similar campus outbreaks of rebellion similar to what happened in the 60s. As far as any national impact a boycott by the football team might have, you have to remember the football team sucks this year anyway and probably nobody would notice.

If this boycott works, it'll be tried elsewhere to punish administrators who aren't political correct enough.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are some real issues on campus, but when the group's demands include that the president acknowledge his own white male privilege, I stop listening. It's now about scoring points, not making change.

It worked he just resigned. Poor guy.

As I understand it, a student had a racial slur yelled at him from a passing truck and there was a fecal swastika in a bathroom! WTH. What can the President of the University do about that?

Well now they'll get a black, woman president and they'll be happy.

Looks like the University of Missouri President resigned. Maybe they will move to the Dallas ISD formula and try to find a black person with an Hispanic name.

Very disturbing. A bunch of student athletes were able to force a University President to resign within a few days. I have always thought there was value in student athletics but this type of power of athletics over the university cannot be allowed to continue. If this behavior continues (which it will because it worked) then serious universities need to start thinking about reforming their athletic programs accordingly specifically not lowering academic standards for athletes. Time to put the student first in student athlete.

Check out these Yalies shouting down a white professor because he said he wouldn't stop people from wearing offensive Halloween costumes (like Mulan).

One black female is screaming at him for not making the university "safe" and dropping f-bombs all over the place. If you don't agree with the "Social Justice" (as they perceive it) Warriors (SJW), you're a racist and should be fired or worse.

Wait 'til this catches on at UT -- and it will.

This is exactly what America voted for in the past 2 presidential elections. We are now reaping what has been sown. If our offense only executed half as well as Obama has executed his fundamental destruction of America then we'd be in the playoffs, at least until our players "went on strike" over some perceived slight. They should have taken all those players, put them in diapers and sat them in a corner with a pacifier in their mouths and a blankie in their laps. There is no football season that is worth succumbing to a bunch of thin-skinned leftist crybabies. He should have stood his ground, revoked their scholarships and finished the season with whomever was still available. The power of the $'s involved with college football have now spoken. This is a terrible precedent to set.

The inmates are running the asylums now, exactly as planned. It only gets worse from here, this is only the beginning.

Well if our society has learned nothing, it's that there's no situation in life which can't be improved by ambushing someone in large numbers, accusing him or her of a wide range of insults and then screaming and cursing at him/her until he/she quits their job.

I'm not sure what to make of this. Clearly the AA community on campus has the panties on too tight. The University President was also very dismissive of them too on multiple occasions. Ultimately, it appears the President tried to give credence to the problems too late and when he addressed them directly continued to demonstrate a severe lack of empathy.

Clearly the proximity to Ferguson is having an impact on this situation. The organizers of this Mizzou movement have stated publicly that they spent a significant amount of time making the 2hr trip to Ferguson. Whether Ferguson or #Blacklivesmatter movement, the President should have done more to address their concerns, valid or not.

He should've address their concerns even if they're total BS?

In some ways, I don't feel sorry for these white, liberal profs. They're reaping the fruits of their labor. They've been radicalizing college students since the 60s and now their progeny has come home and guess what; GTFO we're running this show now, Whitey.

Yes, he's in a political role. He needs to recognize the fires and douse them. In this case he ignored or inflamed them. If your a manager with a morale problem you can't simply ignore the reasons for the problems. Even if you don't agree with them, your employee's perceptions are reality for them thus if you're a good manager you address them.

Wow, now former aggy President, Bowen "bowtie" Loftin has resigned from Mizzou, too. He was the Chancellor. Good grief.

Mizzou really wants to win them some football games I guess. Total, complete capitulation without a fight of any kind. An ugly precedent is set.

The students said the campus did not feel inclusive because of things like someone allegedly drawing a swastika with poop on a bathroom wall.

I have to ask... would these students really rather have a poop nazi going around and trying to make them feel included?

I am just saying, if I showed up there as an 18 year old freshman, I would not want an incognito poop nazi welcoming me, trying to befriend me, or inviting me to his poop nazi parties.

Anyway, the students have successfully removed the two poop nazi sympathizers in the university chancellor and university president. Hopefully they will get a president that will take the poop nazi threat seriously. There is no greater threat to equality in America right now than this anonymous brown pants thug that plays with his own feces in a national socialist themed manner.

I got a kick out of reporters trying to film and take pictures of the victorious "student revolutionaries" celebrating at Mizzou yesterday. They shouted down the reporters and informed the reporters that they didn't have the right to photograph or film them.

I guess they haven't heard of freedom of the press and they certainly don't give a damn about freedom of speech, unless of course, you're with them.

Watching the destruction of the United States is depressing. Maybe the two factions should consider dividing up the country into blue and red? That way, the liberals could expand their great city successes like Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago, DC, and New Orleans into a federal utopia. If necessary, happy to move if my current home falls in utopia land.

The PC police have been given free reign...one of the other colleges (Colorado perhaps) has the LGBT groups whining about showing "Stonewall" on campus because it 'wasn't inclusive enough'. As someone noted elsewhere, it almost seems like some of these 'protests' are about kids seeing what they can get away with...it damned sure is NOT about enriching the benefit of the college experience.

I weep for future generations...

Participation trophies for all because there won't be any need for competition of any type...because someone will complain that another circle sung Kumbaya too loudly...

OK: I'll admit this is way more drama than I like, but it's not the jumping off point for the end of the world

I can still remember my great grandfather, a dignified gentleman in his 90s who survived the Dust Bowl, livestock decimating winters and the Depression as a New Mexico farmer, lived through two World Wars and the hottest part of the Cold War telling me in the 1970s "We're living in perilous times." Yeah, I guess, but I think our civilization has and will survive worse.

To be fair, I haven't heard anybody explain what this guy actually did wrong or failed to do with any specificity. My understanding is that some n-bombs were thrown around on campus and that someone drew a swastika in feces on a wall in a dorm. Without knowing who the perpetrators were, I'm not sure what all could have been done. I'm also not sure what the University could do to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future. I don't envy this guy's successor.

That is all that I have heard. Also strange, no actual video of any of these incidents. All I have seen is a picture of a truck with a US flag and a confederate flag flying in the back of the truck. Not sure how a university president stops that on the streets of Columbia.

Of course, lots of video of these protestors instigating trouble though..

What we know is that he didn't acknowledge the sentiment from the AA community on campus (8% of total population) until the concern reached a fever pitch with the gentleman on the hunger strike then the football team getting involved. The first time he addressed protesters directly he used language that was dismissive further enflaming the protesters.

I don't know whether this problem is real or imagined. Not one of us on this message board know. Perception is reality and that's what the President failed to react to. Seriously, demonstrating empathy towards the protesters might have been enough to save his job.

Some might say "why show empathy when the protesters are wrong?" I'd argue you don't have to agree with their position but acknowledging them and committing to address their grievances might have been enough to stave off the rebellion. That's simply good management which was his failure.

Read a post on another website that the guy who did the hunger strike is well known for "protests." Apparently his first protest against the prez was that PP was kicked off campus per Missouri law. Then he protested his graduate health insurance was lost (to Obamacare). Lastly, he was pissed that the student housing dorm he lived in was torn down.

It's apparently well know that he had his own personal problems with the now former Missouri prez. When no one listened to him, he made it into racism.

It's kind of comical that the PC-demanding protestors have run afoul of the PC-demanding media by physically thwarting access to a protest area they had "created" on public property on the University of Missouri Campus. A mass media assistant professor was videotaped calling for "muscle" to keep student journalists out of the student protest area. No doubt the Fox Newsies are joining NY Times readers in calling for her resignation... And once again we are reminded of something we learned in kindergarten, everybody hates the incessantly whiny and bitchy, but we still do what the want cause it's better than constantly listening to whining and bitching...

Second important lesson: College students are capable of exhibiting great wisdom and maturity, but sometimes, they act like dumb kids ...

Doesn't Mizzou have one of the reportedly best journalism programs in the country? Is this Asst. Professor evidence of their liberal bias?

Yes, Missouri has a highly respected Journalism program. At UT the journalism school was crawling with liberals, moreso students than professorts though. Among journalism students, I was conspicously right of center. Funny thing though ... lots of those leftist moved to the right and prospered.
