What are you doing about gas prices?

Meehhh...I just bought a Ford F150 Supercrew. I'm just hoping we invade some more countries and take over their oil industry. Seriously though, they are offering such big rebates on trucks right now, I couldn't pass up the deal since I was in need of a new vehicle.

I live in Arlington and work on the far west side of Fort Worth - that's 28 miles each way, five days a week. Not much I can do about that except pay whatever it takes to fill the tank. My 350Z gets a pretty steady 24-25 mpg going to and from work. By the way, it actually get better mileage at a steady 75 than it does at 60 - I've had as high as 29 mpg on a trip, which isn't shabby for a high-performance sports car. Mrs. HHD drives a Maxima. She doesn't work, so all of her driving is local errands, and the Maxima gets a very steady 25-26 mpg in town, 30 on the highway.

I have a vacation planned for October - to Colorado Springs for my 40th reunion at USAFA. We'll definitely fly instead of driving for this one. I don't want to pay the gas prices in New Mexico and Colorado.

When I travel for the company. I always ask for a smaller car. Avis tried to give me a big SUV in Washington last week. I got a small Chevy instead, and the gas from Dulles to Bethesda and back was only $5 - I'm sure it would have been twice that in the SUV.

I just found out that my car will run on E85. Where can you get that in Austin? In Dallas, it's considerably cheaper.

but you get worse mileage with E85. However, its still supposed to be a better deal in the long run. unless you count other factors in the whole ethanol debate.

I did 60 instead of 70 on the way to Austin. Between the 1960/290 junction and teh 290/ I-35 junction, I got 36 mpg. The ole S60 is doing some good work....if only that Swedish panzer got more than 18 in the city.

I bought USO (which tracks the West Texas Intermediate light sweet crude). I drive for free now. If you can't beat them, join em.

I ride one of my Kawasaki cruisers as often as possible. No math major here, but ~23 miles a day round trip from Oak Hill to 4th and Guadalupe @ +45 mpg works out to ~$10 per week.

**** em. Let's go for $140 per barrel.

My round trip commute is 95 miles. Would need to fill up once every 4/5 days when I would drive. About a year ago, I started taking the train. My commute often takes less time and I fill the car up about once a month.

Plus, the train really reduces the stress of navigating traffic.

Selling the Tahoe and buying an RX330. 14.5 mpg to 22.5 should help a little. Also joining the Cap Metro car pool program with co workers. $32 a month per person gets you week day access to a Prius and a gas card for 4. Pretty sweet deal if you can stand your co-workers.

We switched Daycare for the kids to one that is closer to home and next to a park n ride. The wife will now be taking the bus to work instead of chugging around with the Tahoe. I have a 45 min commute to work, but I took her Carolla. I fill up once every 10 days or so.

Calculate how far you can drive on a single dollar? Or what it is costing you per mile in just fuel.

My 4Runner gets about 16 mgp...that's almost 25 cents a mile.

I feel like I'm paying for a cab every time I drive it very far. So I don't.

I put about 6,500 miles/year on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee (which gets 18/22 mpg).

The wife puts 6,000 miles/year on her 2006 Pontiac G6 GT (it gets 25/35 mpg).

We tend to keep her cars for about 6-8 years before getting a new one.

The Jeep is probably my last ride.

I'll just pay more for gas, even if it goes to $10/gallon.

The company I work for has actually placed orders for these cars to use for our district manager's company car. We currently have an aging fleet of Jeep Cherokee's mixed with 06 and 07 Camrys. The Smart Car will replace the Jeeps. Thank God I have a Camry. I can't see my self traveling around the state in sardine can that only has 60+hp.

Maybe the airport argument would come into play for use against them. This is not a bus line. You don't have an airport, do you? You drive to a bigger city.

Maybe a compromise. Instead of stopping all along the way, stop once between Austin and Dallas. Make the stop a quick one. If the revenue does not make sense, then there are fewer trips that it will stop there. Maybe 3 a day in either direction, period. Maybe even just one stop a day while other express trains go through that area without stopping.

i just keep complaining about it. no matter what, it aint going down and that pisses me off.

why is it going up? are we really using this much more now than we were 8 months ago? is this supply and demand or just straight up OPEC exercising their monopoly.

I work from home. So I'm not sweating it, and I got to do a little offroading today in the Xterra on a tank I filled up 2 weeks ago.

So then you want it to stop in La Grange on the way to Houston then. They have good Kolaches there. That is about all that is good about that place, however.
