Wall-E

Wall-E was great. It had a dark message, but they did a decent job with it. The robots had personalities, but they weren't overdone.

the only question that i had that the movie did not answer or did not chose to explain is how Wall-E became self-aware.

Saw it.

Not as great as some of the hype on this thread, but it was a very good movie. Fortunately for me I didn't read this thread before going, but if you're someone (like me) who lets expectation affect enjoyment of a movie probably a little too much, don't go in expecting an animated masterpiece to surpass all animated movies. Because it's not.

Just go in expecting an entertaining and good movie.

The movie is just really pretty dark. The characters are awesome-- but the outlook on the human race is very. very bleak.

Thanks for the feedback.

It's a freakin' animated roach...I have no love for roaches either but its not gross like a real roach. Kind of endearing actually.

I thought the movie was excellent, but definitely more adult than pretty much every other Pixar film. So many references to great sci-fi flicks (2001, Brazil, etc.) A must see and the best movie of 2008 thus far.

I loved how there was no dialog for the entire first half-hour...i didn't even notice until afterwards.

My 4-year-old loves Nemo, Cars and Madagascar, so I was thinking he might enjoy this one. But after reading about how "dark" it is, I'm not so sure. Is this movie suitable for young kids? And is there any violence?

Take your kids. As with any movie, you might have to explain that the story is just a fiction. It's a really good movie, just unexpected (for me at least) from Pixar when looking back at their other offerings.

A lot of the dark aspects of the film are way over kids' heads. Most of them, in fact. They will simply see a little robot guy on the screen going about his business. They won't understand all the implications of the visuals that the filmmakers put on the screen.

Pixar has historically been consistent about putting in adult-level jokes and references to keep the parents and grown-ups entertained. There are still some of those in here but the grown-up content is more big picture.

This is from a review I read of it:

"An instant classic that will stand the test of time and sear itself into the collective memory of a generation, WALL-E is so profoundly moving, so quietly eloquent and so purely magical, it may well be movie of the decade."

Now, I haven't seen it, so I'm maybe I'm just being judgmental from the previews, but FOR ****'S SAKE IT'S AN ANIMATION ABOUT A ROBOT, IT'S NOT CITIZEN KANE!

A little dark is OK. I like the fact that Pixar tells life the way it is. Someone needed to bring to light what happened to all of my toys when I was out of the room or the lights were off. About time the truth is out in the open.

Saw it with the kids and loved it. As a parent who has to see tons of stuff directed to kids, I can tell you this is as good as it gets. I think the message is a good one for kids.

Meh, nothing great. I'd definitely put it at the bottom of all the Pixar movies. I took my 3 and 5 year olds and they didn't really get into it either.

Let me sum it up.

1. This is a good Pixar movie. Not great, but good.
2. This is a cartoon aimed at adults, and not young children.
3. This is a love story amidst a dark social commentary.
4. There are some funny moments, but nothing that compares to previous Pixar movies.
5. The animation, as expected, was excellent.

Finally saw it so I can now comment with context.

Best. Pixar. Movie. Ever.

Enjoyed this movie far more than any movies pumped out of Hollywood this year.

I definitely enjoyed it, and so did my 4-year-old -- although he spent a lot of the movie asking me why I was laughing (many of the jokes went over his head). It's nice to go to a Pixar movie and not have it feel like it's going to lead to relentless marketing and constant requests from my child for toys (Cars, anyone?).

No one has mentioned the short cartoon shown before Wall-E. I really liked Wall-E but I thought the cartoon was hilarious.
