Wall-E

Just caught a screening of Wall-E. Just wow.

I'd say it's one of my top 3 pixar movies with Nemo and The Incredibles. I'd say the visuals are almost as impressive as the former, and it's almost as much fun as the latter, and both of those blew me out of the water. Obviously, if you're not into Pixar movies, it's not for you. But pretty impressive for what it is.

I'm excited about this movie. I think it looks hilarious from the previews I've seen. I'm a kid at heart who loves animation and cartoon shows and movies.

Me too. Pixar is cartoon-lite, made to look just real enough that we don't feel childish watching it, but not quite so real you can't touch your inner child.

Oh and for the record, my top 5 Pixar flicks (pre-Wall-E):
1) Ratatouillie
2) Monsters, Inc.
3) Toy Story 2
4) Incredibles
5) Finding Nemo

The Pixar Movies:

1995 - Toy Story
1998 - A Bug's Life
1999 - Toy Story 2
2001 - Monsters, Inc.
2003 - Finding Nemo
2004 - The Incredibles
2006 - Cars
2007 - Ratatouille
2008 - WALL-E

So far, they have a really good batting average

I hear its much of the same. Wall-E was panned by one critic for being a redux of Rambo - citing the gratuitous violence and bad "acting".

How long is the roach 'pet' in the movie? My wife refuses to see this movie because of it. She's dreadfully afraid of roaches.

this is not a theater production. the roach will not leap off stage and onto her. its a computer generated image projected onto a screen. has she been given all of this information?

Classic

I've heard it is incredible and can't wait to see it. Pixar has that great track record but a pet roach? What is the world coming to.

this movie was absolutely incredible. The gal and I had a great time the entire film. the visuals are amazing.... we caught it at the Galaxy in Austin (HD screens).

I didn't see the previews on TV. I saw them at the theater. You know, where one often sees previews. "Coming attractions" and all that. Is this controversial?

I agree, the previews did nothing for me. But, my three year old son wants to see it. He's walking around right now with toy binoculars to his eyes humming the Wall-E song we heard on the preview.

Best pixar movie yet. The Wall-E robot as about as human as you can get and is hilarious at the same time. Wall-E and Eve together really seem to click and the creators really do a solid job of getting some silly robots to invole several emotions to the audience.

Great flick, for anyone.

Not bad, but you guys need to cool down on the hype. Its not the best pixar movie, not even top 3 in my book.

Wife and I saw this on opening day. I think it has grown on me since then, but the wife still doesn't really like it.

I will say one thing -- for a Pixar flick, it's really dark. The story has a vision of the future that is seriously depressing in a lot of ways, though in the end one of the messages of the movie is of ultimate redemption. It's tough to really have this conversation without throwing spoilers around right and left, so

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Things that made me see this story as pretty dark: 1) the essential death of the earth through consumerism. The story asserts that we ran out of places to put our trash, so we had to leave. This is pretty dark, IMO.

2) The utter physical disconnect between the humans aboard the Axiom. Even though they are right next to one another, they still speak to one another through their "phones". Again, I thought that this was a ather dark idea, that we are on a technological path that will lead us to such straits. True maybe, but still dark.

3) The hover chairs and resulting obese nightmare that follows for the humans in outer space. Again, not so far fetched, but dark nonetheless.

4) The near total ecological destruction of the Earth. Sludge for oceans, not much water left at all, huge dust storms, abandoned, refuse filled cities. Pretty apocalyptic for a cartoon, really.

5) WallE's total loneliness and yearning for companionship is pretty tough, for a cartoon.

Don't get me wrong -- I really liked this movie. But it is dark. We don't have kids, but I was thinking after we saw it that some kids might have some questions about some of these things, not that that's a bad thing, IMO.

Finally, it really sorta surprises me that the global warming disbelievers haven't been screaming about this, too. It's never clear that it's global warming, per se, but the message of this movie that humans can destroy the earth is plenty loud and clear. Maybe they are screaming and I just haven't heard them yet.

Good movie. Not Pixar's best, IMO, but it is definitely worth seeing. The WallE and Eva characters are incredibly good. There are lighter moments throughout, and funny stuff too. This is just a different sort of Pixar flick than I am used to watching.
