Walking Dead Season 4

Yeah. I agree the prison is probably a safer setting. Rick and crew just need to do a little more security maintenance.

Rick's judgment on Carol was swift and severe: banishment to the wastelands of the zombie apocalypse. That was a punch in the gut.

Rick the Lawman made that call. As the episode sunk in and I thought about it, what else was Rick going to do? The Three Questions he asks are:

1. How many walkers have you killed?
2. How many people have you killed?
3. Why?

With Carol, she basically euthanized two people in a particularly cruel way which did nothing to stop the outbreak of the killer flu. Whether or not it was a good idea, Carol did not raise the issue with him or the Council- she took it upon herself to kill and burn two people. In Rick the Lawman's eyes, you just don't do that without causing a complete loss of trust.

Carol went off the reservation; Rick just made it a formality. In a world where human companionship can mean the difference between sanity and madness and survival and death, banishment is a near death sentence. Overall, a powerful episode for Rick as leader and Carol, one of the more complicated and compelling characters.

I see the viewpoint El Torito but think Carol actually showed the better leadership skills at this point. The fact that she is willing to make the tough choices displays that. Rick has lost his edge and I think was more worried about the potential of pulling the group apart when Carol's actions became public.

Rick the lawman should have realized that Carol is essential to the group survival and the acknowledged and accepted her actions.

Banishment of Carol at this point makes the group weaker.

I like Carol and her character development. From abused spouse to true survivor, Carol has a depth not a lot of other characters can offer.

Now, Rick has his issues, but I disagree that Carol has shown better leadership skills. Rather than standing for positions in an effort to lead the group, Carol's recent choices and courses of action have been secret or hidden for the most part, e.g. teaching the kids knife-fighting tactics without telling Rick (or the Council), wasting the water supply, venturing beyond the fence alone, or killing the two patients. Remember, she didn't disclose that she was the murderer until asked by Rick. If not for his question, she might have never said a word about it. Her behavior was essentially hidden from view. You can't be an effective leader if you feel compelled to hide the very example you're trying to set. I think she didn't let anyone know about these things precisely because they wouldn't have been well received.

Think about it: Herschel is risking contamination by giving medication to the sick personally. Darryl and his group are risking their lives venturing beyond the prison trying to get medicine to help the sick. And Carol is killing them.

Imagine how Tyreese, who arguably has a death wish, will come further unhinged when he learns Carol killed Karen. Who would fall asleep with Carol in the next cell? I think Rick understood that there was no way Carol could stay without risking further bloodshed and destabilizing this small society with a debilitating paranoia. People seek each other out to scratch, claw and survive, not to give refuge to the killer within.

But hey, that's my simple take. That's the fun in watching the show and sharing comments. I have a strong suspicion that we have not seen the last of Carol.

Carol will be back and I bet the governor will be part of her return, along with the young man who vanished with Ricks watch. Maybe he is connected to the gov.

The governor is back and the fences are down. Best episode by far.

Somebody needs to tell these folks that a prison cell isn't really a cell if you don't lock it. They go around sliding all the cell doors closed as if that's going to make a difference, then when the trouble starts everybody slides them back open and joins in. If I'm ever in a Zombie Apocalypse, I hope I'm in a brighter group.

Also, storing the weapons outside in open bins with the rifle barrels pointed up is probably not your best move. Sure hope it doesn't rain.

Ever notice that the daily practice of stabbing walkers through the wire never results in any dead walkers on the ground? Always a fresh herd.

On a positive note, they seem to have gotten the message that slow, soap opera episodes aren't popular with the audience. This show doesn't develope characters well, anyway, so bring on the Zombie hordes.

Now we get to see the Governor's story since the massacre of his own people. Didn't really like that episode. Based on the preview for next episode, he's regrouped with those 2 dudes that abandoned him but he's found a new lease on life and a new family to protect. I sure hope they don't turn him in to a "good" guy just looking out for that girl.

Episode made it look like the Gov has become an insane "good guy"...............at least for a while.

Holy cow!!! I went to Austin Comic Con today and met Norman Reedus, Michael Rooker, and Chandler Riggs!

Besides the one with Norman Reedus, this is my favorite!

Thanks! I won't post my photo with Norman, but I will say I have the most giant goofy smile on my face. Wow, I was on cloud 9!

So who's falling next week?!

Well, after spending two episodes trying to make the Governor seem more human and more interesting, they brought us right back to last season. Another standoff between two British actors trying to do American accents.

Any chance there are some leftover anti-tank weapons in the prison?

Maybe they watched Saving Private Ryan and remember the sticky bomb?

Man...how much diesel would you have to scavenge to get that tank to the prison? What's the governor expecting? He wants the location for his own crew, right? It's considered safe. He's not about to start blowing up the place with that tank.

As expected, the **** hit the fan. The prison is done. Everyone is spread out and on the run again.

A few thoughts:
- Loved the scene of that cold heartless young girl shooting those two adults.
- The Governor killed by his new squeeze? I found it curious that they didn't actually show him dead. Did she actually shoot him?
- Rick jumping back into the leader position.
- The Governor going all Mexican Gangland on Hershey????

This show does the seasonal endings very well. it can be a slow build up during the season, sometimes painfully slow, but the payoff is always there at the end.

Another great facet is that major characters die on a regular basis, while the main storyline advances in cumulative fashion. Thus ep had two major characters die in one show. What other television show has ever been this bold? IMO, this keeps things fresh and interesting. It is also formula deconstruction, which i find appealing.

This ep resolved some major conflicts, namely Rick v. The Gov and Michonne v. The Gov, while setting up an almost limitless amount of future conflicts as the group is forced back into the wild. Well done.

Man did Michonne's samurai sword suddenly go dull? It took the governor like 4-5 whacks to behead somebody. What a way to go.

Who the heck is dissecting small mammals? that's like serial killer behavior. I think it's that little girl bad ***.

Oh no the baby! Man RIck and Carl are getting piled on this season. February 2014 can't get here soon enough. That's a cliffhanger from hell. lol

Didn't someone say they had an emergency plan in place for just this type of disaster?

I think the little girl skinned the rat. I also think she murdered the two sick people and Carol covered for her. This paves the way for Carol to come back into the group.

The baby is probably still alive, picked up by a wounded member of the group, which explains the blood on the car seat. Unfortunately, as the daughter of Rick and Lori and the sister of "Coral", she'll probably grow up to be an annoying, poorly developed character.

Carol covering up for the girl. That makes sense. I hadn't even thought of that angle.

She (the girl) seems to be plenty big enough to drag a body.

Whose death has affected you the most?

I would say mine has to be Merle. I couldn't stand him, and then you could see him starting to change. I understand why they had to kill him though, and I think that was good writing. Good guy Merle would never have worked. Doesn't mean it didn't hurt!

I also cried with Hershel. I'm a girl, what can I say. I felt like I saw his coming more though.
