UTSA vs Texas

Shaw bats against the new pitcher in lefty Trent Rosipal.

He bats with two down and the bases empty.
Shaw bleeds one toward short and with his wheels it's yet another infield hit.

Hinojosa up with one on and two down and for some reason Shaw tries to steal and he is thrown out which does speed this tedious game along. Side finally down.

Texas takes control with a clutch hit and a big error on UTSA.

The result is a Texas 7-2 lead after seven.

There are certain mistakes you don't want to make in the outfield when Ben Johnson is the one running around the bases.

McKenzie still in for Texas in the eighth.

Kinder, who came in as a pinch runner earlier is up batting lefty.
He K's swinging for one down.

Valentine, with both rbi's for UTSA bats with one away.
He K's swinging also for two down.

Pickering up and Texas looks for the rare quick inning with two down and nobody on.
Well we had it, but a foul pop is dropped by Cantu and it should be an error.
A ground ball up the middle and it's flagged by C.J. and the 6-3 play does retire the side in order.

Bottom of eight and Texas in command 7-2

Rosipal still in for UTSA in the eighth.

Hinojosa dumps a flair down the right field line and keeps chugging to second and beats the throw for a double.

Marlow up with one on.
He lines a single over the outstretched glove of the second baseman.
C.J. had to hold to see if the catch would be caught and goes to third.

Barrera with a big night is up with two on.
He blasts one not quite as far as he did the one in Houston, but it clears the fence in left center for a homer.

Texas leads 10-2.

The game is out of control now.

Boswell up with the bases empty again.
He almost took one in the ear, but no warning given.
He walks.

McCann up and now the game drags as UTSA can't get anybody out.
He lines a single to left center to put two on.

Cantu bats with two on.
The coach out and another pitching change. Is there anybody left out there?

Pitching change.

Another pitcher is Dillon Turney, a lefty for UTSA.

Cantu gets in the box with two on.
Another single to left loads the bases.

Gurwitz, who has struggled looks for his first hit and why not join in Zane?
He bats with the bases loaded and no outs.
Well no hit, but he walks to score another run.

Texas leads 11-2.

Johnson up with the bases loaded and could we please have a ten run rule, pretty please.
Johnson K's swinging for one away.

Shaw up with one down and the bases loaded.
Another walk and there is the ten run lead.

Texas leads 12-2.

No ten run rule or ten pitcher rule as another change is made.

Pitching change again.

Some right hander named Andrew Shewcraft is in now.

Hinojosa up with the bases loaded and one down.
A ground ball to the hole is fielded and there is no play and the millionth infield hit is recorded.
Another run scores.

Texas leads 13-2.

Marlow up again with still one down and the bases still loaded.
Marlow K's swinging for two away.

Barrera is up with the bases loaded and could tilt the pinball machine with another hit.
He singles up the middle and another run scores and another could have scored but Nicholson held him up for mercy.

Texas leads 14-2.

Boswell up and with the bases loaded and still two down.
A wild pitch is not one because the runner is not sent.
He pops up foul and the everybody looks at each other on defense and it drops.
Boswell finally K's to end the inning.

Well that was beyond ugly even if it was for the Horns.

They blow it wide open and lead 14-2 to the top of the ninth.

Andy Mcquire comes in to pitch the ninth for the Horns.

Jackson leads off for UTSA.
A high pop up foul is caught by Barrera on the right side for one down.

Gilmore pinch hits for UTSA from the left side with one away.
He takes a called strike three on the inside corner for two down.

Markham of the error that put this game away is up with two outs.
He singles to right to keep this thing going and pushing the four hour mark in length.

Another pinch hitter is Brookover, righty swinger.
A ground ball to second and thankfully this game ends just short of four hours old.

Texas wins 14-2 in a game that was 3-2 with the tying run at second for UTSA in the seventh inning.

I need a breath and and want to see the end of the basketball game, be back in a few.

Well glad I got to see the last few seconds of the basketball game. :brickwall:

So back to baseball. Texas used a big error, the end of the UTSA staff, and numerous late hits to blow open a close game that you should win. UTSA is not that bad, they ran out of quality pitching and Texas finally broke through and put it away.

It's a good win and gave some pitchers and freshman some much needed work. :bevo:

Minnesota comes to town this weekend and they played a ranked Houston team tough this past week.
Hopefully it will be warmer by then in Austin. Maybe there won't be any 4 hour finger killing games either for my sake.
Texas improves to 3-2 on the year and UTSA is now 2-2.

One redeeming thing was that it is so much easier to use this site for a game thread and having this new site is a blessing for all of us on Hornfans! :hookem:

Found this in the UTSA preview of the game Tuesday evening in two places. Sounds like they are trying to establish their own identity by distancing themselves from UT.

"WE ARE UTSA. | When referencing The University of Texas at San Antonio athletics, please use the acronym UTSA and the nickname Roadrunners. Please refrain from using Texas-San Antonio, UT-San Antonio, UT-SA or any other variation."

saying : UTSA vs UT-SA ?? ...... This is like not seeing the forest for the trees. What kind or type of idiots does this journalist think baseball fans belong to? ........ :brickwall:
