:ut: vs :uw:

This is the toughest matchup we could have possibly drawn. This year's UW team has one of the best passing offenses over the past 10 years of the game. Penix will likely win the Heisman. And their lines are good (not great, but good). Fortunately, Steve's Offense should be able to put up 30-40 points on them. A shootout is expected.

All that being said..........We'll still whip the Dogs and move on to the finals!!!

Because of Washington’s offense, the good news is that Sark will be forced to want to score every possession. Also, Coach K will want to apply pressure on every Washington possession to force a punt or FG. This is the mode where we play our best, imo.

Dial up some pressure, as Penix has shown some unease against a good pash rush in recent games.

Their WR talent is excellent--about like ours.

The experts claim Michigan is the toughest team among the Final 4. I think Washington will be our toughest matchup however.

Of course, we'll win, but this will not be an easy game.

Interestingly enough, the draw this year also necessarily sets up an East vs. West showdown for the Championship.

I think Michigan loses again, embarrassing the B10 and Ohio State by proxy.

Last year, Texas had players sit out at DL and LB (maybe DB too). We also had our great RB’s out. Ewers was not as good either and Worthy played hurt. Going to be different next game.

I hear the huskies have a suspect run defense.
If so, I would expect Sark to try to keep their offense off the field if possible.
I really don't want to see a shootout where the team with the ball last wins.

Yeah, we need to run the ball and have a balanced attack. Every possession is important. Bert could be the difference.

I like to think that our offense is as good as (or better than) the offenses of USC, Oregon, Cal, and Stanford. (Oregon and USC may be about on our offensive level).

Cal put up 32 points on the dogs
Stanford put up 33 points on them

If Steve is on top of his game, we could approach (or exceed) 40 points on them.

Study the game:

:uw: Vs :asu:

Washington won 15-7.

Arizona State held the vaunted Husky O to 9 points (the only Dog TD was a pick six INT by UW’s Defense…). Penix threw 2 INTs that game. UW also gave up 2 fumbles. UW was held to 13 yards of rushing. :yikes: Ariz State’s red zone defense held up, forcing 3 field goals. Press summaries state that Ariz State stuffed Washington’s rushing attack, and put pressure on Penix and UW’s receivers.

UW— 3 field goals, 1 defensive TD with conversion missed.

Ariz State —after this game their record was 1-6. So this was an otherwise sorry team that stuffed Washington’s offense.

Several weeks to get everyone healthy will be gruntling for sure. Of course UW will have a chance to heal all their bumps and bruises too.

I feel like this is the perfect match up. They waxed us in the bowl last year so our guys have something to prove. On the other hand Washington will come in too relaxed and cocky because last year was so easy.

Texas for the win!!

Hate playing left handed quarterbacks. Their tendencies tend to be the opposite of what the defense see 95% of the time. I think this contributed to Gabriel gashing the D, well that and a defensive game plan putting the defense on their heels. I didn’t see any games where Penix was uncomfortable in the pocket (granted only watched Oregon, spoiled children, which doesn’t count, and Utah) and thought he has pretty good pocket awareness. His receivers are good and make aggressive plays in the ball. Penix will not hesitate to throw it up when in trouble trusting his receivers to win the battle. Going to need to get a push right up in his face and we Sweat and Murphy can do that, can’t double them both.

I agree that on paper this would appear to be the toughest matchup for Texas. I’m definitely encouraged by the scheme we’ve used in our pass defense the last two weeks. It seems like we have gone to press coverage more often, and also inside technique. Additionally some players, like Jerrin Thomson, have stepped it up.

Optimistically speaking, I think the four weeks will be well utilized by Texas and PK. Additionally, it may allow a couple of players, namely Watts and Catalon, to get healthy. But indeed, it has been the case that our vulnerability has been against the pass.

Regardless, I like our chances.

Last year the semifinal scores were 51-45 and 42-41. Odds are our game will be similar as the national championship against usc. Bama -Michigan like the Bama-Georgia game.

On the other hand, Penix is not really a runner.

Washington is a fairly similar team to what they were last year while Texas is much different. That pass game is no joke and if there’s any way this defense can be had it’s with an elite Qb. But I think our front is going to get Pennix off schedule and this is the kind of game Sark loves to call where we are in contact with the opponent for much of the game. Keeps his calls sharp.

Will be without Derek Williams for 1st half. He was figuring it out and getting better with each game. Can Catalon finally make some plays?

I like our chances vs UW. If Penix was a running QB, I'd be worried. I'm confident Sark and Coach K will have something dialed for them.
