I'll give Purke his credit, he's been pitching good and we've been watching **** go right by us. But there have been some definite balls that have been called. Just have to keep our heads in it.
And on that note, Cole beams the lead off batter on a 2-2 count.
Regarding the balls and strikes--even if blue has a generous strike zone, it's up to Texas' hitters to adapt and adjust. And with two strikes on you, there's no excuse for staring at a grooved strike three.
No doubt ya gotta swing on that Gem, gotta protect that plate.
Cole walks the second batter. He hasn't had many pitches this inning close. I'm not sure if there is anyone up, but they may want to get someone up pronto.
Next batter with a fly to RF, and runner on 3rd scores on the tag but runner on first holds. 2 down for the Horns.
3-0 cockroaches
Thomas and McKirihan up in the bullpen.
Next batter single to RF, runners on 1st and 2nd now. Throw in from RF goes over SS's head but fortunately no one advances. We look like a bunch of ******** out there.
And a beautiful 1-2-3 inning a half *** strike 3 swing ends the inning. **** Texas if you don't want to be out there, just call it a day and come back tomorrow.
I think against Purke 1 run would be enough. He is dominating Texas. Give TCU they are very good and their experience in the Super Regional last year in Austin is Huge.
I disagree with the comment that Purke is pitching a great game. He's fallen behind several hitters and is throwing a lot of balls relative to strikes. He's not pitching poorly, but he's far from dominant, in my opinion.
What seems to be going on is too many Texas hitters are approaching the plate with a weak mindset--"This fish is the $4M man!"--and they're out before the first pitch is thrown.
