Ukraine updates

One amusing thing about all this is to see the American "left" (not really leftists as in commies, but you know what I mean) do a 180 degree flip-flop on whether America and the West are forces for good in the World. Before this war, the American "left" would preach-and-preach-and-preach their nonsense that America and the big bad "West" were a force for bad in the world. It took a real war to snap them out of their fantasyland and realize that America is one of the greatest forces for good on this planet, and has been for over 100 years.

Yeah, we screw things up on occasion--but if you want to see what a world without American leadership looks like--this is it pal. Aggressive rogue nations invading other nations. War after war to expand borders. Law of the jungle on a global scale--the strongest shall survive. A barbaric age, with better weapons than in previous centuries.

Finally, the American "left" gets it. And it's amusing to watch them diametrically oppose their previous positions. Pretty soon, they may start encouraging the youth to enlist in the service. Oh, the head explosions on the left side of the aisle ...

What's that old saying? You're known by the company you keep. Who all is in the pro-Russian camp?
China, Russia, Iran, Pakistan
Potentially:
India
Brazil
Argentina
Mexico,
Saudi Arabia
Dozens of African and South American countries

we may not like them, but as a group the dollar as reserve currency would be toast.

India may straddle the line, but they will NOT enter an alliance with China.

Mexico? I really doubt it. There's only so far from us that they will stray.
Same with Brazil and Argentina.
Much of Africa has come to realize the pile of crap that Chinese domination will bring to their countries, and there is a big anti-China push in Africa now.
Saudi Arabia won't join an alliance with Iran.

Russia is left with folks like Red China, North Korea, the Tropical Workers' Paradise of Cuba, Venezuela (until we buy them off), maybe Angola and a grab-bag of other 3rd world countries until they're bought off by our side.

It's perhaps a bit dangerous based on historical precedent ...

... but with the way things are going in this world, we should probably encourage our good friends Japan to fully re-arm and build up their military (Errrrrrrr, I mean their "self-defense forces" :lmao:).

No one has the winning track record against both Russia and China (and North Korea for that matter) that Japan owns. The next war in East Asia, I want them on our side, and I want them ready.

The siege of Kiev:

"Russia’s strikes on Kyiv have been intensifying amid reports it’s getting ready to lay siege to the Ukrainian capital."

Humanitarian crisis worsens. (already bad, getting worse...)

“Those refugees who have been arriving have been more traumatized. They’ve been in shock, many of them. I think it’s fair to say that they have fewer means than those who arrived in the earliest phase of this crisis.

The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, says 3.27 million people have now fled Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion began on February 24."

Could be part of Putin's 'ethnic cleansing' plan...

That line got me thinking. You kind of have a point.

Examples of "tribes" that couldn't peacefully coexist unless individuals chose to fully assimilate would be:

1. American Indian vs Anglos
2. Jews vs Palestinians
3. Wahhabis vs Shias
4. Nazis vs Russians

In each case, segregation and/or war to remove the other party was pretty much inevitiable. So you may have a point there. For the past 8 years, the hard-line descendants of the Nazi supporters have been trying to eliminate everything Russia from their society. And the Russians hate anything having to do with Nazism. And from that perspective, Putin certainly wants to remove "Nazis" before Nazis remove Russians.

Not every Jew wants to murder every Palestinian and vice versa. But given the history between them, generally each side would rather the other go some place else. And so it is.

Oh yeah, the American “left” may now start promoting Western Civ classes and programs. 180 degree flip-flop.

C'mon. Here is the list of countries the US military has invaded or aided in invasion recently. Long list and this is just countries near Russia. Add Afghanistan, Iraq, helped with Libya, helping with Yemen, and bombed Somalia the same day Russia invaded Ukraine.

I was there a lot in the mid and late 90s. Their navy (maritime self defense force :rolleyes1:) is still very much highly capable and competent. From what I saw, more so than any of our other allies. Man for man, ship for ship, plane for plane, they could still mop the floor with any other country in Asia. China still fears them—and they should.

Oh, and they’ve amazed me with their ability to become the only other nation besides us (and maybe the Brits) to have massive worldwide influence on pop culture.

None of what you mentioned above had the purpose, or result, of enlarging US territory by a war of conquest.

Captured Russian soldiers are reporting that their comrades are being shot for retreating. Sounds like something akin to the old Red Army political commissars are back in action. I very much do NOT hate the rank-and-file Russian soldiers. I even feel a bit sorry for them. They’re mere pawns in this deadly game—used up and then cast by the wayside by their bloodthirsty leaders. Some things never change.

Putin has now placed 2 of his top intel officials under house arrest for providing poor intel prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

80% of the housing stock in Mariupol is now destroyed or damaged. Per Michael Clark, defense analyst.

One of the retired US generals they dig up for their opinions during these situations was on Fox the other day. He thought that Putin is just crazy enough to drop a sub kiloton nuclear device in a deserted area of Ukraine to scare them into surrendering. He said the US got rid of our sub kiloton nukes “because we didn’t want to start WW3”, but Russia has plenty of them.

I wouldn’t have believed it until I heard Russia is begging China for missiles and supplies.Putin may be getting desperate.

Yep. I hear a lot of people saying that we can't take on the Chinese navy and win. However, if we do go against the Chinese we won't be alone because Japan will be with us and China won't have a chance.

People are saying we can’t take on the Chinese Navy and win???
:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I don’t care how many ships and subs they have on paper, they really suck. I’d even bet a purely naval war between only China and Japan would be won by Japan—even though they’d be greatly outnumbered.

Also, beware of Pentagon guys trying to drum up more $$$$$ for more stuff, by saying we’re behind the Chinese, etc.

If the Russians back the Chinese with Kinzals, we wont have a Navy.

I read a story in the WSJ about the Chechen warlord and irregulars that Putin is using as part of his army in Ukraine. They’re turning out to be, despite their deserved reputation for cruelty and ruthlessness, to be useless in battle. It’s insane that he thinks they can be useful in a fight with a professional military. (Now, burning down houses, torturing prisoners and executing civilians is a whole ‘nother deal). Really, if he has to use them, he should use them as “political troops”, to shoot deserters and dissenters from the Russian army.

In WWII the Red Army was one of our Allies, but they were still a horde of raping, burning, pillaging, marauding thugs. They were ultimately successful on the Eastern front of the European theatre of that much larger war, due to numbers and attrition—and those overwhelming barrages of artillery and Katyusha truck-fired rockets. They were pretty good at that. Also, the Germans were arrogant and bit off way more than they could chew.
