Uh Oh... Knox-Knox has de-comitted!

The reason why I don't bag on 3-stars is I have gone back on several instances before this year and looked where solid college players were rated coming out of HS. I was always surprised to see how many known college standouts weren't 4 or 5 stars coming out.

Year after year people on these boards look at great Texas players on other Big 12 teams and ask why we didn't get that guy instead of _____ who isn't nearly as good for our team. And many times the reason why was he wasn't rated to be all that coming out of HS.

There are so many reasons why a solid skills player may be overlooked and rated below his talent level. A quality RB's line could have sucked royally, a good QB could have been stuck in an option offense. The list goes on and on.

Not making excuses, saying I prefer lower rated guys, etc. Just saying I don't get down when I see 3-stars all over the place. I know some will be solid players and surprise. Just as I've always seen our opponents the last decade have a ton of 3-stars and thought the same thing. Some of those guys will bite us in the backside in the next few years.

Don't sweat it, this 2014 class will be a very solid class with a lot of production. The trend is heading back upward asap also. Things are fine. We will have a very impressive year on the field. It's all good.

If our coaches are or were recruiting by Rivals stars we are in trouble. A good college coaching staff shoud have made a much more thorough evaluation of a player than folks whose profession is journalism or website management. The question is trusting the folks doing the evaluating. By that standard, I think the last two recruiting classes to take the field have been pretty salty. This year's true frosh will be a small but pretty highly rated class. in the fall of 2014 is when we begin to find out if Mack's staff knows more about players than Ketch's staff.
