It's finally here, Texas back in Omaha to face Cal-Irvine in a battle of like minded teams.

Great starting pitching and try to score runs any way you can. As expected it's a battle of tough right handers as Nathan Thornhill for the Horns faces Andrew Morales for Cal-Irvine. Hard to think this game will be any different than most Texas baseball games, low scoring and tight.

Texas is the home team according to Craig Way.
There is rain in the area and hopefully we can avoid delays.

Time to get this started and go Horns!

Notice that Carter and Hinojosa have traded places in the batting order, due most likely to Hinojosa being hot lately I would think.

The game is televised on ESPN2 and free audio on texassports.com on the baseball page with game preview.

Nathan Thornhill takes the mound for Texas as we get underway.

Taylor Sparks leads off for UCI and plays third base.
He steps in right handed and a ground ball in the hole on the right side and Malow fields and his throw is low and can't be dug by Clemens and the ball gets away.

The runner reaches second on what will probably be a hit and an error.

Chris Rebago, the shortstop bats righty and bunts.
The sac is good and the runner goes to third with one out.

Conner Spencer, bats lefty with one down.
A little combacker is fielded by Thornhill and he looks the runner back and makes the play for two away.

Jerry McClannahan, the catcher bats righty with two down and a man on third.
A tight slider K's him swinging and Thornhill escapes the early trouble.

Texas comes to bat for the first time in Omaha looking for an early lead.

Andrew Morales, a tough right hander in his own right takes the hil for UCI.

After getting out of the big early jam, it would be huge if the Horns could get on the board first.

Marlow, as always leads it off for Texas from the left side.
He walks and Texas also has it's lead man on to start the first.

Johnson is up to bunt no doubt from the right side.
He is squaring, but two straight balls, means he may take a strike.
He walks on four pitches to put two on.

Payton bats and the pitching coach is out.
Will Payton bunt, he of the 101 game on base streak?
I bet he takes a strike first, but no he bunts the first pitch and the sac is good.

Runners on first and second with one out.
Barrera up from tjhe right side with a chance to drive home the first run or runs of the game.
Infield is back and contact is a must here.
He K's swinging on three pitches for two away.

Hinosjosa up from the right side with two down and two on.
He needs a clutch hit that now would probably plate two.
The count runs full and a ground ball to third ends the threat and the innning.

Both teams waste excellent scoring chances in the first and you wonder about Payton bunting now, but the key at bat was Barrera and he didn't put it in play.

So one played and the result of all this is 0-0.

Jonathon Munoz, the DH leads off against Thornhill as the second starts.

He bats left handed and another full count comes.
Thornhill comes all the way back from a 3-0 count to get a swinging K for one down.

The second baseman, Grant Palmer bats right handed with one down.
A high chop goes over the head of Gurwitz and down the line in left for a double.

Kris Paulino is the right fielder and bats lefty with one away and one on.
A ground ball to first goes 3U for two down as the runner moves to third.
The same scenario as last inning for UCI.

Adam Alcantara plays left field and bats lefty with two down and again a runner at third.
He grounds to Marlow and the 4-3 play gets Texas out of the inning.

Bottom of two and still 0-0.

Moralez back out for UCI in the second.

Shaw leads off for the Horns from the left side.
He rips a liner down the line in right for a double.

Carter bats righty and lays down the bunt as Shaw goes to third with one down.

Clemens bats with one away and a lead run at third in Shaw.
Again some contact is needed with the infield back.
He squibs one down the line and the Morales fields and tries to tag Clemens and misses. Then he looks at Shaw and it's too late to get Clemens and all hands are safe on I guess a fielders choice.

Gurwitz bats with runners on the corners and the safety squeeze gets by Morles and the infield hit scores the first run of the game and the CWS.

Texas leads 1-0.

Marlow, at the top of the order bats with runners on first and second and one down.
Morales has been his own worst enemy as a fielder in this inning.
Marlow sends a soft liner to center that drops for a single.
The centerfielder was playing shallow and Shaw is held at third.

Johnson bat with the bases loaded and one down.
Again some contact is needed to put a crooked number up.
Again none is achieved as he K's swinging for two down.

Payton up wth two down and the bases loaded.
These are the kinds of matchups that baseball is all about.
A comebacker is speared by Morales and that ends the inning.

Five runners stranded in the first two innings and you hope that doesn't come back to haunt you.

Texas does get a run and leads 1-0 after two.

Killing me. Game could virtually be over considering the pitching staffs and limited batting. Still got the lead but man... 3 or 4-0 could be there....

Thornhill out for the third with his new 1-0 lead.

He faces Justin Castrro, batting right handed.
A fly ball to right is one down.
The winds is blowing in quite gustily and is playing tricks with fly balls.

Sparks is the top of the order and bats righty with one down.
He rips a liner to the wall in left for double for his second hit of the day.

Rabago bats righty with one down and one on.
A jam job pop to first is out two.

So for the third stratight inning Thornhill tries escape a jam.

Spencer bats lefty with two down and a man on.
He sends a liner up the middle and HInojosa makes the diving stop and gets up and his throw is just in time according to the ump. That was very close and I will waiting for the replay on that call.

Anyway Texas leads 1-0 to the bottom of the third.
And yes, he was safe and it cost UCI a run.

So after the blown call at first Morales back to the mound for the third.

Barrera leads off and a fly ball to right is stopped dead by the wind for one down.

Hinojosa bats with one down.
He K's swinging for two away.

Shaw bats with two down.
He lines a single up the middle for a two out runner.
Yes, he should run here.

Carter bats with two down and one on.
A liner to left is another single, too bad we didn't steal.
He scores on that running all the way with two outs if he was on second.

So it takes another two out hit by Clemens now to plate another tally.
A wild pitch sends the runners to second and third.
He K's swinging and two more stranded runners.

Both teams have had chances to score in every at bat so far, but just one foot has touched home.

It belongs to Texas and that is why they lead 1-0. after three played.

Thornhill to the hill again for the fourth.

McClanahan leads off for UCI batting righty.
He walks for yet another lead runner.

Munoz is up batting lefty and squaring to bunt.
He fouls off two attempts.
Then gets it down to move the runner up.

So as they have every inning the Anteaters have a man in scoring position with one out.

Palmer bats righty with one down.
A squibber to the left of the mound is fielded by Thorhill and he looks at third, but goes to first and almost threw it too wide and high.

Two down and a man on third again for UCI.

Paulino bats lefty with the latest chance to drive in a run for Irvine.
Again it goes wanting for them as a fly ball is tracked down in the wind by Shaw in right to retire the side.

Another threat escaped by Thorhill and Texas leads 1-0 to the bottom of four.

Morales back to the mound for UCI as both pitchers have played with fire, but been burnt very little so far.

Gurwitz leads off for Texas from the right side in the nine hole.
A ground ball to short goes 6-3 for one away.

Marlow brings the top of the order again for Texas.
A fly ball to left is two down.

Johnson bats with two away.
Morales looks for the first quick inning bya pitcher today.
He doesn't get it as a bad hop attacks the third baseman and Johnson reaches on the infield hit.

Oh yeah, he should go here too.

Payton bats with two down and one on and hits the first pitch to left to retire the side on the lazy fly ball.
I just don't understand that, but nobody asked me.

Four gone in Omaha and Texas leads 1-0.

Thornhill pitches on in the fifth looking to become the pitcher of record and a shot at the win.

Alcantara leads off for Irivine from the right side.
A sharp ground ball goes by Clemens for a lead single and yet another lead runner.

Castro up righty looks to bunt him over.
He bunts and Clemens let it roll and it barely went foul and it would have put runners on the corners.
With two strikes he is still squaring and pulls back the bat and lines one to Payton and the runner was off and Mark's strong throw is a 8U-3 double play.

Two down now and nobdoy on for Sparks.

He rolls one to short and that retires him for the first time today and the side.

Halfway home in the first CWS gamed and Texas leads 1-0.

Halfway through this game and the two teams have mirrored each other. The only difference is a blown call that kept the game from being tied.

Morales pitches the fifth for UCI.

Leading off for the Horns is Barrera.
He steps in from the right side and ground ball to third is one away.

Hinojosa bats with one down.
A ground ball to the hole on the left side is dove for and gathered by the third baseman, but his throw is wide and C.J. beats it and it's ruled a tough E5 because he had time for the throw and just didn't execute after the nice stop.

Shaw up with one on and one down and he has had no trouble with Morales with two hits.
He walks to keep his perfect game going and put two on.

Carter bats with one down and two on and once again a hit is needed to stop stranding runners and pad the lead.
A fly ball is out two in center as the UCI outfield plays very shallow with the wind blowing in.

Clemens bats again with two down and a runner in scoring position.
It takes a clutch job to plate a run now.
A full is reached and the runners are off now.
A ground ball to first leaves two more wasted.

Five are played and Texas leads 1-0.

Morales pitches the fifth.

Barrera leads off and ground to third for one down.

Hinojosas grounds one that the third baseman dives and makes the play, but a wide throw is called an error.

One down and one on for Shaw
He walks to put two on.

Carter up with one down and two on.
He flies out to center for two away.

Clemens bats again with two away and two on.
He leaves on two more on a ground out to first.

Five gone and Texas leads 1-0.

Thornhill starts his sixth inning of work.

He faces Rebago leading off and he flies out to center for one down.

Spencer bats with one down and also flies out to center.

Two down for McClanahan and he fliesout to right to retire the side in order for the first time.

Bottom of the sixth and Texas leads 1-0/

I'm not concerned what size ball we play. Just get a clutch hit when we need it. Period. That's what makes the difference in winning and losing.

Morales stays on for the sixth.

Gurwitz leads off and grounds out to third for one down.

Marlow once again brings back the top of the order for the Horns.
He K's swinging for two down.

Johnson bats with two down.
A pop to shallow left is caught by the shortstop to retire the side in order as again the teams do the exact same thing.

Six now played and Texas clings to a 1-0 lead. Did you expect anything else?

The seventh begins with Thornhill still at it.

Munoz leads off righty and K's swinging for one down.

Palmer bats righty with one away.
The big change is another swinging K for two down.

Paulino bats with two away.
A fly ball to left retires the side in order again.

Stretch time in Nebraska and Texas with a 1-0 lead.
