U.S. vs. Slovenia--Yearrrrggh, more spoilers!!

If ties are like kissing your sister, at least this time we got the better looking sister.

The outcome of England game will be huge for us.

Come on Algeria. Step up!

Well, the U.S. was surely robbed of a game-winning goal, but let's not be too greedy--battling back from a 2-0 deficit and earning a point against a team that allowed just six goals in qualifying is no small feat.

What incredible heart!

Assuming England deals with Algeria, the U.S. MUST do the same in order to move forward. That wouldn't necessarily guarantee advancement, however, as a three-way tie for first is a distinct possibility (if England and Slovenia draw).

That was a thrilling second half and the USA was absolutely robbed of a third goal by a third world official who has no business ever officiating another game.

If the first half was as putrid as the US can look, the second half has to be as good. I still think Bob Bradley is a drag on this team but with a win over Algeria the second round is still a distinct possibility.

Mathematically this miracle draw means USA must beat Algeria by more than 1 goal and then we are assured of going through. we actually want England to stomp Algeria tonight so that they have nothing to play for next week.

Great comeback for the USA, but it is awfully hard not to think this guy didn't screw us out of 2 more points. I'd drag his Danny Duberstein-looking *** thru the mud for the next 48 hours.

Yeah, I don't know what the third tie-breaker would be, after goal differential and head-to-head ... maybe overall goals scored? Truly shaping up to be a strange group.

Next tiebrakers after points and differential are goals scored and then goals allowed.

The bottom line is the US controls its destiny, beat Algeria by more than 1 goal and under any scenario possible the US advances.

In the case of three teams on five points and we only beat Algeria by 1 goal then we need the England-Slovenia tie to be 1-1 and then the US would advance on goals scored.

I expect England to beat Algeria and Slovenia so really it comes down to the US beating Algeria to get to the second round. You couldnt ask for a better situation, just beat Algeria to make the final 16.

I agree Gem. It is a shame a good game like that had to be ruined by a ref goof near the end. It reminds me of that terrible call late in the game in 1988 when Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State.

Crap casserole. This ref was way over his head. I sort of feel sorry for the chap as he probably knows he can't do it but hey, he's there. Shucky-darn. Let's go Lions.

Gem you are absolutely correct

Though I suspect if you had told team USA before the tournament began that they would control their own destiny going into the final group match with by far the weakest team in the group they would take it.

Though watching Algeria this afternoon, they are outplaying England through the first 35 minutes so nothing is a given.

I've watched that play over and over again and the ref screwed the US. However, if the US would play in the first half then it might not have mattered.

Why can't Bradley's halftime adjustments or halftime speech be the way the US starts the game? I wish we would start the game in more of attack mode than a defensive mode

Gem, I watched it on a delay so I turned all comm devices off. Then had errands. Crap cakes.
