DOGE uncovers over 4M government credit cards responsible for 90M transactions

The Department of Government Efficiency announced on X Tuesday that it had uncovered over four million government credit cards that spent nearly $40 billion last year.

A lot of agencies require their use. Mrs. Deez has one and is required to use it for all official travel. We don't mind using our own card (which gives us airline miles) and getting reimbursed, but the government card is required. May not seem like that would make a difference to the taxpayer, but the government credit card charges international transaction fees, which the government has to pay. Our credit card does not. It's just needless waste.

It isnt that there are cards. It is the question of abuse of the cards. An audit card by card will reveal what abuse by whom.

Obviously the US will make money on this, but bullying them into giving what sorta feels like reparations doesn't seem like a smart move in the long term. It could foster a lot of needless resentment. I'd much rather see Ukraine opened up to free markets, so merit can decide who can access the minerals rather than whoever is connected to the right politicians and bureaucrats in the US. This invites more Hunter Biden-style arrangements.

I understand that, but requiring the government employee to use a card with crappy terms is waste and corporate welfare for the credit card company. Why should the taxpayer have to fund foreign transaction fees for no reason? It may not be a lot for 1 employee's travel, but it's charged for every GPC transaction in a currency other than USD. It adds up fast.
