Travesty of Officiating

Looked to me like he was out when I was watching it live on a 52" HDTV, and I haven't seen a still photo of the play. Perhaps you'd like to post your evidence?

The ref was standing right there in front of the play and blew his whistle and raised his hand not when the contact occurred, but rather when his left foot hit near the sidelines, which also leads me to believe that he stepped out.

1) It was a foul.
2) Not all fouls get called.
3) That foul probably should not have been called, for various reasons that have been posted (consistency -- if Wallace was fouled, Scotty Reynolds surely was fouled a few seconds before -- impact on the play, distance from the basket, likelihood of deciding the game in view of those other factors).

That said, the Villanova guy had no business making that stand in that situation, if he thought there could be a foul called.

I assume the ref made the call in good faith, even if it was a mistake. To do otherwise would drive me nuts. So it goes.

It was not a foul. Nothing else needs to be considered, because no defensive foul occured at all. How does moving laterally to guard a dribbler count as fouling? He just played defense there.

Now I really hate when people pull the "If you disagree with me, you must never [watch/play] [insert sport here]" line of argument. But I really honestly don't see how anybody who has played guard or has coached the sport before could call that a foul.

The offensive player caused the contact to happen when he turned the corner with so little space and had to lean into the defender to keep from falling out of bounds. It's somewhat like when a defender is staying straight-up in his vertical space, and an offensive player shoots while moving forward and runs into the defenders arm and they call it a hack.

Statlyzer,

I don't understand how anyone who has played, coached, etc. can think that ISN'T A FOUL. The defensive player wasn't in position and he bumped the offensive player out of bounds.

In that photo above his right knee and leg are clearly stuck out in front of the offensive player. That is a foul in my book.
