Transfer Portal 2024

This smelled funny from the beginning only because it was tCu. What a joke.
I have a lot of respect for that new TCU coach. He was down to like 6-7 players and had a try out on campus to field a team. In my eyes, they are formidable once all their injuries return.

I think HVL is a cancer just like the big girl on lsu. Both are loud mouths who happen to have talent.

This sucks because we are so thin in the front court. That leaves us with Moore and Carlton at the 4 with Jones at the 5. We need to add about 2-3 more players in the front court. I trust Vic will bring in what he needs.

Not surprised that Amina chose to transfer. She was a nice role player who was versatile and a really good rebounder that needs to develop her jump shot. Out of all the players who have transferred, Gaston is the biggest loss. She was an all conference player when healthy and could play the 4 or the 5. The problem now is not having any depth at position where the starters and a incoming freshman have histories of injury. IMO, the biggest need is still a backup center.

Interesting. Who’s influencing these players? Herron I understand but not Amina. Someone posted here there was a plan to groom Amina to play post. If true, perhaps she was not interested in that scenario and saw her minutes possibly decreasing because of the new players coming in. Well, whatever.

I'm not really that surprised based on her IG comment on Herron's transfer announcement. I really liked Amina, and she had some real good moments for us. However, she still needs a lot of development (especially offensively) and was rather inconsistent. She'll need a lot of playing time to develop that consistency, so I get it. But I'm not sure which other competitive P5 program could give her more minutes than she got with us. Whatever the case, I'm definitely wishing her the best.

Anyone have any idea who the big is with a visit scheduled?

I hope Kirk Bohls is "current" with his info. Could be he's late on Cameron Williams from Michigan having already visited Texas last week with teammate Laila Phelia.

The only "bigs" I've seen our assistant coaches follow on Instagram have been Kyla Oldacre (Miami), Raegan Beers (Oregon State), and Cameron Williams. I did notice recently that Syndey Carter started following Aaronette Vonleh (Colorado) who visited Baylor a few days ago.

A couple of posters on the Tennessee message board have been stating for a couple of weeks that A&M's Janiah Barker is heading to Texas. I've seen nothing similar anywhere else so that might just be opinions versus reliable information.

There's one connection between Texas and Barker; Barker and Jordana Codio were teammates at Montverde Academy in Florida.

Just looked at Barker's IG. Barker is followed by Lovato, Aaliyah Moore, Madison Booker, Jak, and Laila Phelia.

Barker is also followed by future Horn, Aaliyah Chavez. :e-face-shades:

Definitely!

And, it could be that Vic and Elena recruited her out of high school prior to her committing and signing with Georgia. So, a previous relationship existed.

But, how would she fit in the Texas starting lineup? Listed at 6'4, I believe she plays PF and not Center.

In these times a post player is a post player. Very few players outside of Cordoso, Auddie Crooks, Ayoka Lee, etc. are listed as centers anymore. In fact, the only player we have listed as a center is Abbie. I don't think there's any need for concern how Vic would utilize her in his system.

Edit: I'm not being a smart-***, just commenting. :beertoast:

This is highly speculative but when the rush of Montverde players entered the portal (Barker, Vasconcelos + 2 others), Vasconcelos and one of the others mentioned possibility of a ‘reunion’.

I agree. There also those 6'4 players like Latasha Lattimore and Joyner Holmes who wanted to be wing players instead of playing in/near the paint.

I don't know want Janiah wants. She played alongside 6'5 Lauren Ware at A&M this past season; so, she wasn't playing Center in CS.

Most post players don't play "true" center unless they have extreme size or have skill sets that limit them there. Imagine Vic with a lineup where all five players can not only defend intensively, but all are also triple threats. Barker is a beast... been keeping up with her since I watched the game between Montverde and DeSoto in what was hers and Codio's senior year against Amina, Tionna Herron, and S'mya Smith. Barker caught my eye during that game and I haven't stopped coveting her since.

Not sure how many of these are point guards, but a couple will have to come off the bench with Flaujae set at SG. Perhaps a logjam in the back court dissuades 2025 Aaliyah Chavez from giving LSU a lot of future consideration.

Or, how much NIL is LSU offering to land 3 guards from the transfer portal?

How in the world did she convince all of them?

Pretty sure Wilson & Sheppard are PGs. Think Kailyn can play PG as well if needed but more of SG imo. Im thinking Wilson starts, other two off the bench

If you didn't already know, the SEC is big girl basketball. I'm also wondering how she was able to get 3 starting caliber guards when only one will start. Hate her or love her, but you can't deny that Mulkey can recruit. I just hope that Texas is ready to compete on and off the court (NIL & recruiting) against South Carolina and LSU.

Vonleh is headed to Baylor. I would have been happy if she came to Austin
That's a really nice pick up for Baylor. They pretty much have everyone returning, all they were missing was a post player. I think they'll be the favorites to win the Big12.

I think Kansas State, Arizona, Iowa State, WVU, and a couple of others might have something to say about that. And if it comes down to coaching... well, we know how that is.

Kuddos to her. They had an issue and she addressed it.
