Interesting notes about Crouser fromThe Link

Ryan Crouser, who has set his sights on the national record in the discus this spring, indicated that the deciding factor was academics. Texas has an engineering program. Oregon does not.

Crouser has fully recovered from a broken left foot and has said that he plans to enter a few indoor meets to test out his off-season strength and conditioning program.

It’s a rough day for Oregon, which clearly targeted Crouser as its top recruiting priority. Fans of the school’s track program eagerly anticipated a uniting of the Crouser cousins and what that might mean for future NCAA title hopes. The Ducks went to the lengths of hiring a new throws coach last spring and publicly declaring a renewed emphasis in the throws program at the school.

Crouser formally announced that he had narrowed his choices to two — Texas and Oregon — days before Christmas, a move that may have softened the blow for Ducks supporters.

Ultimately, it wasn’t enough to lure a 4.0 student who knows what he wants to study. And although he has had a few big moments at Hayward Field as a high school athlete, he was never as hard-wired into Oregon as Sam Crouser was. Ryan’s father, Mitch, went to Idaho. Ryan’s uncles, Dean and Brian, were standouts at Oregon.

The hometown of Track Nation had put a lot of pressure on Ryan Crouser. They did the same to his Cousin Sam, who de-commited from UCLA, and changed his commit to Oregon when they made a coaching hire. He's gonna be a great addition to Jacob and Hayden in the throws. I don't think there will be a better throwing trio in the shot Next yr.

The men's staff has really put together a great class, pretty much the best sprinter, thrower, distance runner... There are a few names that are looking at UT, so better could get even better!!! Next yr will be an exciting yr for both men's and women's squad.

which S & C coach do the throwers use---football guy or the baskletball guy? Or do they have their own? I wonder if the new football guy will be working with Crouser?

don't believe it's either S&C coaches...

Best Sprinter is Sherod Evans. He has amazing range and ability, 100/200/400 and hurdles. We have a verbal from State medalist Aaron Scott, we have a transfer in Alex Williams.. We are still in consideration for a World Jr IAAF finalist in the sprints.

Thank you very much for your info and your thoughtfulness in replying. That sounds very good. I know about Evans, but not the others.

Also, a few members of the Football team may join the sprint squad. both Fozzy Whitiker and DJ Monroe practiced with the team last yr, and Fozzy ran on the Big XII relay team. I think DJ will be competing w/ the team this yr. Another Football Recruit Jordan Hicks is also a pretty good sprinter himself.

No outstanding verbals on the women side that i know of yet. A few have verballed but no big news yet.

Texas did have an outstanding class last yr so it'll be tough to bring in that same quality. Though Oregon had the #1 recruiting class, their budget is higher than Texas... A&M women's squad i think has the highest budget

No, Alex will probably make his impact on the relay team.

I just noticed Texas Men's updated their roster, and DJ Monroe is listed. He is training w/ them, but running in meets might still be possible. This guy won State back in HS. Trevante Rhodes and Danzell Fortsen should be better this yr. They've been battling a few nags last yr. Still another month of recruiting so it'll be interesting where some of the recruits end up. Texas men have been doing well so far.

As for women's team, I don't think the roster listed on texassports is finalized. There might be a thrower or so still not listed. (not sure about that tho)

I looked at the entry for this weekend meet for the ladys. But I did not see C.Goodman or A.Peter in a event. Are these sprinters injury

Allison Peter will be competing (60m and 4x400)... Even Stacey Smith is expected to compete after soccer season w/ UT. Chalonda is not competing (potentially a RS candidate for Indoors?). Believe she is eligible to RS outdoor last yr. Time will tell.

And my bad about the roster.. I was thinking of "Helen" who goes by "IJ"

DJ Monroe is also competing in the 60m.

The womens teams is loaded with 400 meter runners.
OMG This will be a interesting year at Texas. If C.Goodman is health, they will have a good sprint relay. The mile relay team will be out of sight.

In the last track meet A.Peters ran the Womens 60 in the prel. with one of the top times. But I did not see her in the finals.
Do anyone know what happen.

Chalonda and Allison are ok. Chalonda has been in practice. Allison didn't run the finals just for precaution. it's still early in the season.
