Top Chef Restaurant wars

SPOILER

Lisa is a *****. Who the hell asks people to congratulate them for 3rd place? Did she congratulate Richard and Stephanie who have kicked her *** all season long?

For the love of god people... I don't like Emeril's cooking style. That's all. It's okay, I don't have to share your opinion.

But back to the show--WHAT THE ****?????

What's with the little shoulder shrug she does when the judges critique her? Richard's line about the bronze medal was good.

1990txgirl, fair enough, just pointing out that he isn't exactly on top of a franchise of Steak n Ales. If you don't like his food that's fine, but at the time he left he was still the most prestigious Chef on the network. As for Top Chef, good episode... it would have been great without Lisa. I couldn't believe Dale left the meat out all night, I'm glad it didn't cost her.

Notes

-It is just ridiculous how well Richard is doing. He really only ever screws up on QFs, but even then, not that often.
-Stephanie has 5 straight weeks on the "good" side of the elimination table. By making it to the finale, she has become the only contestant to run the wire on elimination table appearances (10 good, 3 bad). Kudos.
-Lisa advanced her streak to SEVEN straight weeks in the "bad" side of the elimination, and I only think it is fair that someone says "congratulations".
-This was Antonia's FIRST appearancing the "bad" side of the elimination since the Second City episode in episode 7. Tough break.

Congratulations Lisa, you were only second worst.

They were on break from the show for 6 months (according to Stephanie's quote about traveling through SE Asia)...don't you think she could let go of the grudges a bit over that time?

What a *****.

The right person did go home though. Antonia's food looked eh.

Seemed like Lisa just wanted some drama. That wasn't a time to celebrate.

Ted Allen's quote about the best chef not always winning has me pretty concerned Lisa might actually win next week.

Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen the final episode yet.....

Wow, that was close. My fear was that Lisa had come up with good ideas all season long, but never executed particularly well. With 6 months off, what if she went home and cooked her *** off to learn how to execute.

Tonight she damn near knocked it out of the park, but she just didn't quite have enough. Happy to see Stephanie win. Hate the way it turned out for Richard. I'm a little surprised that Stephanie won it after hearing that her dessert course "sucked".

If I could go to one of their restaurants, I'd probably choose Antonia's.

3. Utter flameout by Richard. Everytime he went overcomplicated this season it kicked him in the ***. He won the last episode going simple, he should have taken the hint. I can't blame him for trying to play from his interests, but when you've got 24 hours or less to make a menu, you don't have time to screw around.

2. Lisa you magnificant *****. Based solely on the production, it looked like she won and deserved it. That is the great thing about this show, as mad as I would have been about Lisa winning it, you can't have said she didn't earn it. She was the only one to serve a meal in the finale with a complete story.

1. As happy as I am that she won... and I truly am... I want to punch her in the face for not having a dessert. Seriously, you had a few months off and you didn't have a week to thing about dessert? How ******* stupid can you be. If she'd lost it, she would have deserved it. All of that aside, it couldn't have happened to a nicer person and she is nails in a kitchen. She would destroy Ilan, she would out flavor Hung and I think she'd give Harold a run for his money. That makes her no worse than in the top 2 of Top Chef winners.

I freaking love this show.

outflavored hung?? remember, he was the only contestant to ever have a course described as "3 star michelin" when he did his duck dish in the finale last year.

I thought wire to wire Richard performed the best, but I guess that's why there's a playoff in most sports. Gotta deliver when it counts. I think Lisa was very very close and I think they had to factor in past performance here.

Maybe it's the fact that she's unassuming or in a way she was overshadowed by Richard, but I put Steph no better than 4th among the first show. You could argue that Sam and Marcel would out do her, maybe even Cliff from second season.

Hung, can't stand the guy, but he dominated his finale and I think he and Tre could take Stephanie.

Oh thank God. My wife and I can continue to watch the show. (It was dead to us if Lisa won.)

Now correct me if I'm wrong but, didn't Lisa kind of take the easy way out in the final? It seems as if the other two created on the fly whereas she cooked the same stuff that she's been cooking for years.

Knox, I agree. Lisa came in to make things she knew how to make. Frankly, that is probably what Stephanie and Richard should have done to a larger degree as well. I felt like they were scrambling so much because they were flying by the seat of their pants... and I'm not sure that was the right way to approach the finale.

I think the overall talent level rose dramatically between seasons 2 and 3. No more nutritionists, stay at home moms, TGIfriday chefs, etc. I think season 2 was easily the weakest season at the top, season 1was the weakest at the bottom, but 3 and 4 brought in much more experience.

Steph was quiet, and this cast was boring, but she was on the right side of elimination judging more than any other individual this season. She was inconsistant as hell at quickfires, but that shouldn't take away from her elimination performance. Richard was arguably more dominant throughout, but Stephanie didn't back into this.

In any event, those are just my opinions. This show is freaking great.

THANK GOD Lisa did not win, and yes based on production of the program it appeared she was the likely winner. I do think they weighed in her consistency and top notch performance throughout in picking because like or not Lisa easily could have won last night. Doesn't make me not want to still punch her in the face any less, but she did bring it.

I cannot believe the meltdown by Richard, and particularly on the easiest of his dishes - the freaking pork belly. How the hell could he botch that so badly?

I do love this show. I am looking forward to next season too. Brian Caswell - EC at Reef Houston went to the casting call in New Orleans a month or so ago. I do not know if he made it or not, but I know for damn sure he would be an awesome addition to the cast of it. The guy can create interesting dishes, and turns out remarkable food night after night.

Wasn't pork belly Casey's undoing in the finale last year? As I recall, it was tough or something, and the judges hated it.

If so, lesson is don't use pork belly in the fianle.

i would have never have watched again if LIsa had won based on one good meal. She is just a absolute ***** and needs to have her head submerged in a dirty stadium postgame toilet for an hour each day of her life.

i don't understand those who would stop watching if lisa won. do you stop watching UT football if the sooners win the nat'l championship? sometimes, the person you hate (or don't think is very good) wins. doesn't mean you should stop watching.

as much as I didn't like lisa, and didn't think she deserved to be in the finals, she made it in there based on the rules as prescribed. I have to respect that the judges, whether people like it or not, have stuck to their guns and said they're judging based on each week. if anything, i'd be way more disappointed in the show if they'd given the title to Stephanie and she'd clearly not beaten Lisa.

to me, the show is inherently interesting/entertaining, regardless of who wins. If someone I like wins, all the better.

Going buy what they showed on tv, it looked like the judge's liked Lisa's food the best last night. She also didn't have a dish that received criticism from everyone like Stephanie's desert and Richard's pork belly. If the decision was based solely on last night, I think Lisa would have won. It's crazy to think how many times she faced elimination and then ended up almost winning it. Almost as crazy as her making it through the entire season without getting stabbed by a fellow contestant.

Lisa's run to the final was remarkable. It seamed that every week as the gun took aim at her, someone else stepped in front at the last second and took the bullet instead. I love this show! I compare this to the NCAA basketball tournament; the most talented doesn't always win. That said, Richard made the same mistake Marcel did which was to create something he hadn't done before. Lisa used Ilan's strategy of cooking dishes she had done before and almost won the final. I would bet that if you asked the guest chefs who they would recruit to come work in their own restaurant it would be Richard.

I would have stopped watching because, to me, the show would have been a farce. The best person would NOT have won. I mean, there's really no point in watching a "talent" show in which the best - or at least close to the best - person doesn't win. This wouldn't have been an issue of my favorite not winning; it would have been an issue of someone who didn't deserve to even be in Puerto Rico winning.

And, yes, I've considered not watching TX football anymore after the last two T+1 games...

I'm not a real big fan of throwing in the "surprise" for the finally of yanking away the sous chefs after the meals are planned.
