Tom Herman is Mack Brown on steroids.

We all have expectations when it comes to Texas football. Most of us expect to be a top 10 program year in and year out. There is no reason we shouldn't be either. 6-6 headed to the Texas bowl isn't the best of times but it sure is a step in the right direction considering the last two years. With numerous returning starters back next year and a top #1 or #2 class coming i fully expect a jump next season that is going to start a ride that we have NEVER experienced on the 40 acres. Year after year after year We will sign a top five class with the majority of this staff staying intact. Our defense will dominate next year. I fully expect Tom and Todd to have a very long working relationship here. They will bring stability to what has been a very unstable program. That has already started. I fully expect a 11 win season next year. We definitely need better players and they are on the way. Tom has a foundation in place to build on. From recruiting to facilities we are on our way. I'm so happy this staff is here. You may not see it or believe it but it is real. Tons of wins coming soon! Tom will have his name all over campus in 40 years. Fact!!!!!

Sure. In one year with limited talent we went from not being able to line up on defense to a very good unit. Football is a very simple game. Your 11 has to be better than your opponents. We are NOT there yet. Help is on the way. Recruiting at a high level here has been extinct.

Yes. It will start with the upcoming bowl game. I may not know a lot but I love and know this game well. We are NOT near as far off as the average fan sees or believes. Time will tell for sure but if this were a stock......I am ALL IN!!!!!
 
Bevo, I certainly hope that you are correct. What you wrote is the way I felt when TH was hired. I'm less optimistic based on what I have seen this year.

I hear you. However, I'm sure Tom did not anticipate 44 different O line combinations either? Injuries happen. We had key injuries that absolutely limited us on offense. No doubt. However, the key players were his recruits from last years class at qb rb and wr. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Big difference from being a frosh to Sr. We are good. Promise!!!!

If we are depending on this incoming class to contribute immediately we are in for a rude awakening complete deja vu for the 2nd year in a row making year 3 do or die and that is not an ideal situation. We have very few OL commits which meeans the following years class will have to be stacked with big guys and it will be too late by then the damage will have been done. Warehime an beck need to go bring in some guys who can get this o line and skill guys to improve or we are toast because what we are doing with what we have won’t cut it.
 
The talent here is much better than you think. We are definitely more talented than Texas Tech, Maryland and arguably AS talented as some of the other teams we “punched up” with but lost to.

You actually sound a lot like me three years ago, when I was trying to convince myself that Strong was about to have a breakthrough....and as wrong as I was, (Texas always has talent) there is yet more talent now.

I hope you are right in which case I will forgive and forget Tom Herman for 2017. But right now he does not even remotely compare to Mack. And Even if he can sell recruits on his program after this dismal season he still has to win before he can be compared to Mack.

I was gonna go with some kind of "smoke crack much" line ... but then I thought hell nothing wrong with being optimistic. One little caveat ... we're ARE far off ... at least of what I think UT should be.

Totally disagree. We built quality depth this year due to injury. Fast forward a year now. Andrew beck next to Connor Williams next to Patrick and him next to shack (left side of line). Sam under center. Porter, carter, or young at rb. Big difference huh? Not one game this year did that happen. All in 2nd year in this system. Huge difference.

Mack never won a national championship as an OC with a 3rd string qb. Yes.....it is very fair to compare. Mack had a heisman trophy winner at rb his first year here. Tom played his three freshman in the backfield this year behind a depleted o line. Big difference. Plus, tom did not lose to a team from Virginia Kansas or Iowa in conference either. This texas tech loss didn't sting near as much as the "Crabtree catch" mack had either. Do I think Tim beck is the answer? Not sure. Give him another year with a full deck to play with. If he is 6-6 next year Tom will be our hc/oc. Charlie strong is NO Tom Herman either!!!!!
 
Texas talent right now is on par with the talent at Tech, Iowa State etc...and has been for years. All you have to do is look at the draft and you see real quick we haven't had anything.

When Rutgers sends more guys to the NFL than the University of Texas what does that tell you?????

And he isn't going to lose any recruits anymore than any other program might. Let him put together a few of these like he has coming in and all is well.

Absolutely agree Herman vs. Mack. I just don't think we're as talented as many here believe. I know if you look back at who we've recruited and what Rivals et al thought of them we should be fairly loaded but I'm not seeing it. Development? Players that peaked in high school? We've got some nice pieces but so does TCU OSU and other schools we have been ranked much higher than in February. I hope you're assessment is better than mine.

Connor is good as gone. Shack and vahe played most of the year and they regressed compared to last year. Beck won’t make a difference he is too small and I’m going to pretend you didn’t even say porters name and Sam still needs plenty of work. Had we seen any small glimpse of hope for the offensive side of the ball maybe I would be more optimistic but nothing got better over the course of the season it was completely stagnant. The defense saved our buts all year long.
 
Me too. Not sure TCU or OSU has ever landed a top 2 class. My point is more about our starters back next year minus injury. If you think about it.....our best players on offense this year were toms recruits from this past year (offense).

Based on records yes. However, cal isn't USC. We played 6 straight games this year against teams that won bowl games last year. Throw records out.... This team is MUCH better than last three years teams. Not even close. That is playing with a bunch of freshman and a much harder scheduel too.
