To Be a Democrat Today...

Mr. Deez, let me add that I chose to courageously post the same topic and content on Nextdoor, the neighborhood app. I knew that by doing so I would be opening myself up to ridicule. I was not disappointed, so to speak.

Sadly, this response is typical of the Left;

Steve you are such a horrible person. I can’t wait until you’re gone. You are ugly, vile and a disgrace to the neighborhood.”

Instead of intelligently engaging, this individual, Lisa Henson, chose to attack the messenger. Candidly, about 90% of the time in my experience, contrary arguments are handled in this manner by the Left. Why? It’s because the leadership of the party, and the surrogates in the MSM, set the example. That’s what they do.

Tell your friendly neighbor that you need a system that improves the situation overall and not goals that will come up short and have unintended consequences.

For some reason LindedIn has become political. Conservatives are attacked pretty hard over there for defending Trump. If a democrat is asked to provide anything positive Biden has done in his career, it's just more attacks on Trump. No intelligent argument there, or anywhere else.

dukesteer, do you have any intention of responding to Lisa?

It could be noted that she spewed more hatred than Trump in one small in email. It could also be pointed out that she didn't deny any of what you said. Is that admission?

Have to disagree. Again, when you have members of one party and it’s supporters assaulting individuals from the other party — and instead of criticizing such behavior, members of Congress are encouraging it — you have a big problem. There is no equivalency on the other side. So no, I don’t buy the argument.

One other observation: While I, and many like me are happy to engage with those with whom we don’t agree, I am almost never seeing such willingness coming from the Left. It’s stunning. For the most part (no, I didn’t say always), Republicans are willing to engage. For the most part, Democrats are not. If we don’t agree with them, we are evil, racist, and whatever they can think of to call us.

To your credit, you might be the exception

I agree with you on much of this, but you're changing the subject. My point is that one doesn't have to conform to your list to be Democrats. I'm not talking about activists, politicians, or media figures. I'm talking about people who generally vote Democratic.

And I'm not an exception to any of this, because I'm a Republican. I've never voted for a Democrat for federal office.

Our MOC says the Left is ‘illiberal’
Notes they are ‘condescending and patronizing’
Hollywood is anti-Christian

" .... During a podcast released Thursday with host Joe Rogan, McConaughey recalled fellow actors he has prayed with holding their applause when he thanked God during award speeches.

“I have had—and I won’t throw any people under the bus—but I have had moments where I was on stage receiving an award in front of my peers in Hollywood, and there were people in the crowd that I have prayed with before dinners many times, and when I thanked God, I saw some of those people go to clap, but then notice that, ‘bad thing on my resume’ and then sit back on their hands,” McConaughey said.

“I’ve seen people read the room and go, ‘whoa, that wouldn’t bode well for me in the future,’ if for getting a job or you’re getting votes or what have you,” McConaughey continued. “I have seen that; I’ve witnessed that. … I don’t judge them for it, I just wish, you know—that it seems like a silly argument.”

McConaughey tied the bias against Christians to the “illiberal” Left “condescending and patronizing” to half the population.

“One of the things that … some people in our industry, not all of them, but there’s some that go to the Left so far—as our friend Jordan Peterson [says]— that go to the illiberal Left side so far that it’s so condescending and patronizing to 50% of the world that need the empathy that the liberals have,” ...."

WOW very brave words when he has seen what happens to people who speak out for Christians.
I would make one corection to his last sentence.
People need the empathy liberals SAY they have.

She acted like a *****. No question about it. However, it isn't as though she was unprovoked. She didn't say that out f nowhere. She didn't say it in response to you simply describing yourself as a conservative. She said it in response you to you taking a dump on her political choices, which you presumptuously caricatured in entirely self-serving terms. Did you expect her to react to it kindly?

Before posting to a public forum, you should ask who your target audience is and what you're hoping to accomplish. Are you trying to to persuade, or are you trying to troll? These lists seem much more like rank trollery designed to polarize and antagonize people who aren't in your camp and to earn kudos ("likes," encouragement, etc.) from those in your camp. Well, that isn't particularly productive.

Duke
In the same vein as your experience someone in north Dallas posted on Nextdoor their Trump signs were stolen and their house was egged.
There were a disgusting number of replies telling them they deserved it for supporting Trump.
One poster did say he thought that was wrong but he understood since Trump was so bad and Biden so good.
Not one person criticized him for supporting Biden. The hate seems to flow one way

This.

I also posted this on the Nextdoor Neighborhood app here in CA. (Yes, I’m brave.) After I received 34 hearts (endorsements) in about two hours, that number magically dropped to about 17. Funny how that happens... I figured that the social justice police would take down the post, and they still might.

None of the naysayers — and there were only a few, BTW — could offer a single counter argument. They just went into TDS mode.

We have a TROLL!

OK
One example . How many more can you find?
WILL? How many do YOU want to see of the left calling for doing violence and killing against Trump and supporters. I guess you conveniently forget elderly people being knocked and injured or kids being knocked down because they are wearing MAGA hats. How about when the left called for kids of Trump supporters to die in a fire? How about the left calling for Trump to die over and over.
Are you really trying to say the hate and vitriol is equivalent?

Exactly. And this is one of the biggest reasons we’re in the mess that we are in today. It’s mostly a one way street. Sure, there are exceptions, but typically too few to mention.

The Left doesn’t want to discuss anything. Either you agree with them or you are evil, and they want for you to rot in Hell. It’s stunning. I see this over and over and over on social media. It flows almost exclusively one way.

I have two well-educated first cousins in Atlanta. Over 60 plus years we have never been able to discuss political differences. All three of us were raised in liberal families.

One arrogantly shuts it down immediately, insinuating that he is too smart to waste his time. (His arrogance cost him a dream job of a lifetime.) The other just attacks, trying to be funny. But he has no ability to even consider an opposing perspective. This is the norm, not the exception.

If you have one side “mostly willing” to engage, and one side almost exclusively attacking the other instead of listening, you tell me if it’s a two way street?

Mon, I did respond, initially being very gentle and attempting to engage. Ultimately, interestingly, she came back with the Nancy Pelosi “I pray for you” approach. So I started playing a game, telling her that I was not worthy of her and that, as she suggested, I did not possess the cerebral tools to match wits.

My last message to her was asking if, the next morning, I could expect another positive affirmation...

:yippee:

Just to be clear...the start of this thread was you "most willing" to engage, right?

We all need more mirrors.

Where’s yours? Have you refuted any of my assertions yet? Just a few?

Pick five, and state your case. I’ll be happy to engage in a respectful dialog.

I suspect that it is beneath you to do so.

To proud to admit you are exactly what you are criticizing? In the same thread no less.

Take this as a lesson. Starting a discussion with a caricature does not establish an intention for dialogue but rather demonstrates that you've already made up your mind. Nothing you've posted in this thread has dispelled that notion.

Husker, I’m not trying to pick a fight but geez, you have now posted about eight responses on this thread and not once have you refuted any of my assertions. Instead, you have attempted to belittle me, starting with the analogy of your wife’s seventh grade debate class.

You are reinforcing the stereotype that many hold about liberals and the Left: Dance, divert, and attack because they lack the integrity and the counter arguments to engage in a reasonable discussion.

Do you lack any self-awareness? You STARTED the thread belittling an entire party now claim victimhood? I responded to your mocking of the opponent. My opinion of your debate skills haven't changed. You don't want a debate but a platform to state your own perspective. Anything else is projecting.

Duke, you're asking Husker and others to "refute" your list. What would such a refutation look like? Are you looking for someone to prove that the list describes no Democrats? Are you looking for someone to prove that it doesn't describe some Democrats? Remember how you worded this. "To be a Democrat today, you have to believe. . ." That's pretty rigid language. If we're taking it literally, Husker could point to one current Democrat who doesn't believe one of your items, and he has refuted your list. Obviously that wouldn't be hard to do, because like I said, people's political choices are specific to the individual.

Since you're leaning on the refutation angle, I submit Joe Manchin. He's a current Democrat who voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh. I think it's safe to assume that he doesn't think it's ok to destroy a good man's reputation through any means necessary. He has also voted to ban abortions after 20 weeks, so presumably he doesn't think partial birth abortions are just fine, and that killing a living entity just prior to birth is acceptable because “it’s the mother’s choice."

Refuted.

Now that that's out of the way, why do you think posting this kind of list is good for cause or persuades anybody to embrace it?

Sure while left wingers are responsible for majority of the violence or hatred I was just pointing out that it is not solely left wing morons it is right wing morons also. I know its your job to only point out how horrible the left wing is (and I agree with you sometimes) but you need to see it whole picture. Just saying.
I'm sorry that the left has said that they want Trump dead. I don't agree of course but I do fondly remember countless times the calling for Obamas head sooooooo....

Deez, Husker has chosen to avoid addressing my assertions — one of which you responded to above, and instead has attempted to turn this into some type of intellectual assessment of the author.

My assertions were very specific. Rather than dodge, infer my intellectual inferiority, or attempt to demean (quite typical) with the debate analogy, how challenging would it be to refute the arguments? That is, unless he is unable to to do, which I suspect.

Attacking the messenger, in this case, me, is a diversionary tactic for which many fall. I won’t.

I do believe that by supporting the Democrat Party and their candidates one is embracing the positions I laid out in my initial post. If anyone disagrees — that those are not the positions of most in the party and of the candidates, again, they should take the opportunity to offer counter arguments.

We are many pages into this thread and perhaps eight responses from Husker and he has yet to offer any counter arguments. Do you not find that revealing?

To be clear, I've stated multiple times why I will not address your perspective. I'm not running away from a discussion because I've often welcomed those on the West Mall over the 20 years I've participated here. Your post wasn't written to invoke a discussion. Assuming you drafted it, it was posted to create a platform to mock the opponent. Why else set up false dilemma argument, as if the only options are what you propose? Nevertheless, you continue to press on as if you want a debate. Start over, a new thread and ask a genuinely honest question. I'm not sure most on this board are capable of an honest and open discussion, listening and responding to the actual posts but I'd love to be proven wrong. Maybe point the thumb rather than the finger at the OP.

Your post wasn't written to invoke a discussion.
My gosh Husker. You seem to be bending yourself into a pretzel to avoid responding to the assertions. Now you’re working on a technicality, that my post “wasn’t written to invoke a discussion,” even though I have repeatedly and respectfully requested that you refute my assertions.

Is this now a modified version of Jeopardy and I need to phrase my assertions in a particular manner so that you will be comfortable responding?

You’re a smart guy. Why do you insist on playing these games?

What don't you understand that nobody wants to respond to a caricature? I (and Mr. Deez) have tried to explain that it's a disingenuous way to start a productive discussion to which you keep responding...well why aren't you responding? Listen more. Crockett was smarter than I when he responded as follows:
No I don't .
