Three Star U

Since 2008 give or take , UT has had the following players drafted, 3 five stars, 15 four stars and 5 three starts. None of the three or five star players were selected in the first round. I have never put too much concern into the stars next to a recruits name, who even knows how good they will end up. Two examples that come to mind are Colt McCoy and Garret Gilbert, the stars didn't match the players at all.

I thought he was complaining about Louisville.
Hold on they are on the verge of a break through, even though they mostly have 3 star recruits.

I find all the rationalizing disappointing.

These lowered recruiting standards seem to be on a parallel with lower performance standards for our coaching staff. We have become the poster children for diminished expectations. It's like we have become aggy, and they have become us.

Combining what the recruiting situation has become (are we actually losing recruits to Baylor?) with these ou game scores ......

2000 63-14
2003 65-13
2011 55-17
2012 63-21

...... should have been enough already to lead in a different direction.

I don't find that hard to believe with the youngest team in college football. That much youth gets in over their heads and I can see it being much more likely to let doom creep in. With maturity comes experience and much more leadership. It's far less intimidating to do something you have experience doing in the past and realize it is not a death sentence when things get tough.

Not condoning it, just think it is a consequence of youth and inexperience on a mass scale. KSU was loaded with Juniors and Seniors. Makes a big diffference when two talented teams play. Things will change drastically in year 3 for most of these kids, just as Mack has preached all along. Coaches realize the massive virtues that maturity and experience bring to the battle.

BTW, I have zero doubt this is the year we maul these chumps and take out the fury on them.

Vol, I think 3 years ago we just sucked. The last 2 we have been very young.
There are some facts out there to prove it, but somehow I don't think your too concerned with facts, just doubt.
Think you'll be around in late November if we haven't lost?
Sure you will calling for Manny to be a head coach in waiting.
Can't wait for the cold weather

I've been around the last decade so I'm sure I'll be around in November.

Hey, I would love nothing more than being undefeated at the end of the season. What I'm sick of is people coming up with lame excuses for failure the last few years. Poor recruiting decisions, young team, blah blah blah. The teams have been poorly coached and come out flat for most big games lately.

Suddenly the coaches have figured out how to evaluate three star players and will be able to coach them up. Whatever, it's BS!

I hope you are right that all the roses will be smelling good this year.

Nice! With our latest pick up we're now tied with Kentucky with the second most 3-star recruits in the nation just behind Louisville. For the sake of the program I hope they know what they are doing.

New Speak (2011-Present)

Who needs all those 4 and 5 star guys? Bunch of whinny prima-donnas who don’t pan out anyway. Give me a good 3 start player who’s hungry and wants to be here – look at Colt. I’m so fired up about this class.

CAN YOU SMELL WHAT MACK IS COOKIING!!!!???!!!

Alabama hasn't won the last 3 out of 4 MNC's with 3 star talent. In fact, what team in the modern era of the BCS has won the MNC with 3 star talent?

Are you discounting the ones that go on probation and cheated to do so? It won't be all but it shortens your field greatly. Immensely actually. Go ahead and discount any coach who has been on or gotten a program (at least one) on probation.

Bama's out, Ohio State is out. USC, out. Oklahoma, out. Do you mean Division II?

Oh man, that’s some classic crap right there.

Apparently, unbeknownst to the rest of the college football world, the only National Championship that actually counted in the last 10 years was the one won by Texas, as all the other teams cheated and were put on probation and are meanies or something.

I have to add that to my Orwellian Newspeak for Texas recruiting:

Really Newspeak (Aug 2013)

Who needs all those 4 and 5 star guys? All the teams that get those players have to cheat. I’d rather lose by 6 touchdowns to OU two years in a row than have our team be found guilty of violations of NCAA rules on texting or something.

I’m so fired up about this class.

Golden do you realize you have a 100 + posts on a board you don't like, for a team you don't like, that plays for a University you don't like?
Not sure if you have a career, or a job, but man that is a lot of time spent reading a lot of posts, not to say replying to them as eloquently as you do.
Have you seen the movie Can't buy me love?
The nerd in the movie made several pretty sad jokes about sitting in the visitors side of the football games. They made him feel better by saying man he really riles up our opponent, that's school spirit right?
You sure have school spirit for whoever you root for.
You are welcome to sit with the home, team, and drink a beer with us. You don't even have to cut any grass

Several Texas players regarded, our star rating above 3.2 now on new Rivals Rankings. Two new 4 stars.

Anybody who says you can't win with a top ten recruiting class hasn't been paying attention. right now we are setting at # 8. With a ton of 3 star guys.

Lots of teams win big with 3 star, plus 4 star and an occasional 5 star. The key is coaching them up. That's what has been missing at Texas the last three years. Great recruiting classes we've had most every year. Great coaching we have not had.

The proof of whether Mack and the staff can turn it around is coming very soon. I sure hope they can. I will believe it when I see it. If ou beats us again (would be 4 in a row, again) then Mack should step down. The University deserves a coach with a big fire in his belly.

Alabama's two deep OL this year, how many 4 and 5 stars do you see? per Rivals. This is the preseason favorite to win it all. I guess we will have to write them off based on all the three stars on that OL.

cognitive dissonance:

if the stars are meaningless, we can't tell who wins and loses the recruiting war

if one can't tell who wins or loses recruiting, only a moron would spend endless hours chekcing out the recruiting rankings. you might as well just watch the games

i spend time looking at the rankings, and i am *brilliant*, ergo the stars next to the names must be meaningful...

[Honestly, I suspect there is some coorelation between a recruit's star ranking and his college production, but said correlation is a damn sight far from perfect.]

It hurts; Bama lost at home to A&M, needed Oregon, K. State (3 star U) to lose to back their way in with all their 5 stars.
Don't get caught up in the kool aid that is the tide that needs someone to lose to get in.
Don't tell me about schedule either, take a look at who they played last year.

Who they play this year

#2is#1, I am not even sure I know what you are talking about??? I am neither promoting or dissing Bama, just throwing some facts out that support my theory that recruiting stars don't matter in a football game.
