The Liberal Mind

1. So? Do you know anything about the University of Chicago? The Law School is harder to get into than Harvard; or was in 1974.
2. Maybe he retired or passed away; or maybe an angry mob of tolerant Commies lynched him because they didn't agree with him.

Usual knee-jerk side-step followed by ad hominem.

If you can't understand why members of "the other side" feel the way they do, then you probably don't have a solid grasp of your positions either.

Ah. Old school west mall. Honestly, for the last year or so I thought there were entirely too many rational posts and reasonable thoughts for discussion on this board. You know, democrats admitting that while Bill was a good president, the Clintons are kind of sleazy, Republicans saying crazy things like you know, Bush and co. could have been more forthcoming on the rationalle and evidence for war, but now that we're there let's do the best we can for ourselves, the region and the world.

THis is much much better.

What exactly is wrong with helping people?

What is wrong with poor people trying to help themselves? Everytime i hear a politician say we need to raise the minimum wage i laugh. first, the words are coming from someone that does not understand small business economics. second, if someone is working a minimum wage job and is not a teenager, he/she has kind of lost out on the american dream and the free education that i have provided them by owning real property.

"Hitler's party was the National SOCIALIST Workers Party. "

Idaho2, don't confuse a name with a philosophy. The Nazis were anti-communist, pro-business, conservative Christian, and nationalist. You're too intelligent and too well educated to make the silly mistake of calling Hitler a 'liberal'.

God bless Texas!

Hpslugga's post was great, but I really enjoyed the one about how it is OK to eat the poor because we are animals in the jungle. That is The Conservative Mind at its best.
I enjoyed the old "liberals are for big government" cliche as well, after eight years of unchecked federal government expansion into every area by the Bush administration. That was a real zinger.
I don't think Jesus would be really into building a wall between Texas and Mexico somehow, or telling us how the poor deserve to be where they are because we are no different than tigers in a jungle.

"The poor are usually where they are at because they had kids out of wedlock, have substance abuse problems, quit school, etc.......... "

I think the "etc" includes being from families who were poor, being raised in communities with little opportunity for education or employment, and being medically or mentally challenged.

God bless Texas!

"WHich is the result of being raised by a mother who had children out of wedlock or being raised by alcohol or drug addicted parents. Poor decisions/irresponsible behavior begets poverty in America."

So you damn the child for the sins of the parent?

God bless Texas!

"What can government do?"

Maybe provide better prenatal care to their mother and better pediatric care when they're young.

Maybe we could provide a better education. I'm not talking about painting classrooms or providing lap-tops; I'm suggesting providing better training and pay for teachers, smaller class sizes, better curriculi.

There are other ways government can play a role in helping the children from impoverished backgrounds but those two would be a good start.

God bless Texas!
