The First 100 days

Allowing pre-existing conditions in conjunction with not mandating coverage is just going to jack up the price. Some people will wait until they are sick and then ask for coverage. Insurance companies will have to raise the price to the rest of us to cover this.

WRT Trump screwing around on Melania, I am not a fan, she is a lovely and gracious woman (in more ways than just her looks) and does not deserve to be treated that way IMO. However, I understand it comes with the package.

I agree. That used to be the province of the emergency room right (for the uninsured) when things became dire. I completely understand the math around the mandate. I wonder how many people truly don't want insurance. And the irony (at least to me) is that the one's who apparently do not want to pay are the young people who are the healthiest (which is critical for the survival of the insurance company; healthy young people paying for the claims of us old folks) are supposedly Liberals! Isn't that what we are seeing? Hordes and hordes of white Liberals?

But there is the premium cost and we know the poor can't or won't pay on the basis of affordability. Where should the inevitable subsidy line be drawn?

It seems it's all or nothing; a law that forces everyone to pay into the system or we don't have one.

The power of woman... My Dad, RIP was from Cuba as I've said many times. He was a player. Ask his wives, including my Mom. One time he gave me some advice after I asked him what I should do about a young lady (this was back in the 80's) who I didn't see myself committing to. He said, "Son, if a woman wants to sleep with you and you turn her down, it's an insult." Neil Young's Cowgirl in the Sand immediately came to mind ("To be a woman and to be turned down"). I laughed and said I'd probably not go with that advice. But man, he meant it. Old school Cuban machismo. That's what I was raised on.

As for Trump F'ing around, I'm not fazed. I don't like lying. I don't like paying women to keep their mouth shut. My old boss and mentor, is a big time Liberal. Seattle would like him. But he was also a world class philanderer. He had the money and the women knew it. He had a 71' Striker Yacht and traveled all over. He also looked like Jim Baker. In other words, he was no Brad Pitt. But the women were constantly around and at the office we'd all just shake our heads as some new woman would be around acting like my boss was her boyfriend. Well, he was married and they never knew until later. It was a helluva deal. I would ask him, "When are you going to break the news?" He would just laugh and say, "It will work itself out."

No offense to you or your dad, but I think this is wrong. We may have instincts to be easy and to be dogs, but we don't have to behave that way. Women don't have any power over us that we don't let them have. We can be tempted, but we can say "No." I've done it myself. We don't have to be like Donald Trump. We can take the oath of sexual fidelity and mean it and keep it.

And if a guy doesn't like the terms of marriage, he doesn't have to get married. If he wants to be a player, then he can play, but he should be honest with himself and with others but not marrying and by making those intentions clear from the beginning.

Men are easy. Men are dogs. Right? So our President is too. Did he rape anyone? Did Clinton? What is the standard?

In terms of morality, the standard is to keep your word. When you and your wife say "I do," your junk belongs to her and nobody else for the rest of your life.

In terms of politics, the standard used to be the same. Gary Hart got caught screwing around, and it ended his political career even with Democrats. That's almost impossible to imagine now.

Bill Clinton changed that dramatically. Now, it's ok to screw around on your wife. And it's ok to do it while President. And it's ok to do it in the Oval Office with federal personnel while you're in the course and scope of your presidential duties. And it's ok to lie about it. And it's ok to commit a crime to cover it to. And it's ok for that crime to be a felony. And it's ok for that crime to have a victim.

Short of forcible rape, we don't have a standard anymore. That's why it's going to be a bit comical if Democrats try to impeach Trump for trying to cover his fling with Stormy Daniels. It's definitely no worse than what Clinton did and arguably not anywhere near as bad.

Here is my solution and this will lower the cost, unlike all the BS that comes out of DC:

1) Eliminate the VA as it stands today. Give all veterans a "health savings account" and feed it yearly. They use that to get the insurance of their choice.
2) Take what was the VA and turn it into "indigent care hospitals (ICH)" or whatever you want to call it.
3) Remove the "must treat" rule for hospitals. If the person in their ER does not have insurance and cannot pay, their responsibility is now only to transport that person to the closest ICH.

If you don't want to be treated at the ICH, then you better get you some insurance.

No offense. I didn't agree with my Dad. As I've gotten older I have much more control than when I was in my 20's. Don't roll your eyes but I have literally had to turn down at least four married women in the past two years alone. I've known them for a long time (one was an ex from high school; another someone I know at work). They became quite obvious in what they wanted and I had to point at their ring. This is no joke. It's out there if you want it. You probably have had your opportunities. I agree that we should be able to hold to our promise.

I think the Left is just throwing mud on the wall to see what sticks. It's clear they have a different standard or did. James Carville is still smugly walking around as nobody will call him out for his "Drag a $100 bill through a trailer park..." comments long ago. We know the game. It's unfortunate so many on the Left pretend they are clean.

Not bad at all.

We don't even have that anymore, thanks to Bill Clinton. Well, we don't have it for Democrats, anyway.

I considered that but didn't go there because Bill has plausible deniability, so there is at least room to set the standard with rape. (However, I do think he raped Juanita Broaderick.)

The DC Circuit shut down liberals' obsession with obtaining Trump tax returns via FOIA request
"Confidentiality protections extend to the ordinary taxpayer and the President alike."
That said, no doubt Nancy is already scheming to get same. Maybe Louis Lerner already handed them to her?

Ann is on the warpath today

According to the Washington Post --

" ... Congressional Republicans promised Trump several months ago that if he would delay a fight over the border wall until after the midterm elections, they would help him obtain the money in December. But those efforts never materialized, and he was under heavy pressure to avoid a partial government shutdown just a few days before Christmas...."

I really hope Trump withdraws the troops. If he does though, you will see even more criticism in the media. Bombing people is the only one of his actions that they have applauded.

The Fed is raising the rate because it has been held at historically low levels for an historically long period of time. The rate needs to go up so that we avoid price inflation. We are long overdue for it.

The timing isn't great for Trump, but it has to happen. The stock market and economy will be affected, but that is only because the current economic activity has been built on an ever increasing money supply. In other words, it half fake anyway.

Yes, but doing it too fast as we're doing can cause economic problems. The inflation rate is not bad and the stock market is not doing well. We're asking for trouble.

I guess this is the model -- 30-ft high steel wall spanning 20 miles just west of El Paso with solid 5-ft wide steel plate at top to prevent climbing & thick steel posts driven into massive 6-ft deep X 4-ft wide concrete footing to stop tunneling

That is the problem. They are not raising it fast. They are raising it very, very slowly. The economy is so sensitive to it because of the past 10 years of artificially low rates.

The inflation rate is actually horrible for the areas of the economy where all the "new" money from the loans has gone, real estate, student loans, stock purchases. The stock prices are affected because it was the sole cause of the higher prices. The economy just this last year or so grew with any significance. We had 10 years of no growth while the stock market soared. How do you think that happens?

Plus, it is only a matter of time until it affects food and iphones. Better do something now. The longer you wait the worse it will end up overall.

It's simple economics. Apply supply/demand to banking/loans/interest rates. Then think through the Cantillon Effects.

It is laugable that people think the Fed rate is too high or going up too fast. It has been held artificially low for about 10 years.

Monahorn, the feds don’t raise the rate because they figure eventually it needs to so they do it. They raise the rates when they feel the economy is strong enough to handle it. The economy is sound but they are raising it too fast. Stock Market rises when the consumers have confidence with how the economy currently is. The feds didn’t raise to rates at all during the Obama years because the growth was so slow at a snails pace and the confidence of the consumers was shot. I don’t trust anybody anymore that’s in government because of all the stunts the deep state have pulled along with the law enforcement agency toward Trump. The deep state at every position and departments try their best to make one party look good and one party look bad. The Bureau of Labor Statistics even play with the unemployment numbers close to the elections and they always seem to favor the Dems 100% of the time. They go back and correct the numbers after the election like clock work.

So I do worry that the feds are raising them too fast (trust issues) even though the markets has set many records the past year. I can’t help to think it’s on purpose. Some put their hate for an outsider like Trump over what’s best for America. Very sad. Maybe they don’t, but they’ve already earn the reputation of being corrupt at every level of government so I don’t trust them.
