The demise of 1300AM

First Erin Hogan bolts. Then the station wades around for a month or so while Bucky tries out the morning gig with a few hacks.

Then, this morning . . .

Mind you, my morning commute down MoPac is not as long as others to get a full sample of what 1300AM has wrought, but during my drive, I essentially heard KVET redux on what was my faithful morning radio station for the past 4 years. The segment leads in Bob Cole and Bucky talking over the song Ebony & Ivory (gee, I've never heard that song played when a black guy and a white guy are hosting something), Cole sounds like a douche and informs the audience that the call-in number is now 390-KVET instead of 390-LIVE, he fields a caller who argues in favor if medicinal marajuana, then cuts to a break for national news.

Do I need to give this crap a chance, or should I finally pony up for satellite radio?

Quite disappointed with the "Buck & Bob show" or whatever they call it.

I can't say I'm surprised it sucked, because Bob Cole is awful (I still
don't understand why he is so popular around here).

I don't care for Mike & Mike either because they don't talk about any teams I care about.

I'll give B&B another chance or two, but I'll probably start listening to KGSR or KUT (even though it's the routinely depressing NPR news) or, like this morning, CDs for my morning drive (no sat radio).

Morning Ipod is back for me.

1530's signal is supposed to get much stronger this month, so I heard.

I listened to Buck and Bob this morning on the FM side. Got a clear signal all the way from Lockhart into San Antonio. That, at least, was a welcome change. I didn't find the show to be all that bad. It sure as hell doesn't suck as hard as Gregg Hanson did. Not too sports oriented, but then again we're entering the sports dead zone aside from UT baseball so I wouldn't expect wall to wall sports talk.

They're worth listening to just to see what develops.

Listened this morning and thought it was a bad april fool's day joke. Then I heard them say it wasn't and that it was for real. SUCKS!!! While I was listening, I had to hear some caller tell Bucky that he shouldn't be thanking our troops for what they do for us. I don't know if I can take this change. Ugh.

You know, if the station manager is trying to run off the few listeners who stuck around after E Hogan left.....DONE.

If you'd break down and get XM Radio, I can promise that you wouldn't be disappointed about losing a talk show that ran 25 minutes of commercials every hour.

Morning sports radio died today. Please, UT, switch over to 1530 am next time the contract is up.
Nothing like hearing Bob Cole's politics for an hour, waiting for Augie's weekly call-in for five minutes.

I listen to Steve Czaban in the morning now all the time. I cannot think of the last time I listened to The Zone. I cannot think of when I will again. Any broadcast i want to hear of the Horns I can get on XM now. 1530 has my ear and their advertisers my dollar.

I think they're trying to mimic the Sam & Bob show before The Zone existed. Sammy & Bob used to cover a lot of local events and talk a lot of Longhorns. I'm intrigued by the show.

seriously, it's amazing watching the complete devastation of that station.

if you would've told me 3 years ago that 1530 would be my preferred choice over 1300, i would've laughed in your face.

way to go clearchannel, you stupid *************. i'll be on sat radio when i'm not on 1530.

amazing.

a favorite saying of my old man's was "they could screw up a one car funeral."

perfect for clearchannel. good god.

The suckage continues. I gave it one more shot today, and it was 85% commercials, news, and traffic, 10% Bob and Bucky talking nonsports babble, and 5% of something resembling sports talk.

I've listened to Bucky for years. I honestly tried to give this a shot once again this morning. I have to say that this has been the longest morning in history - and that's not a good thing. I think that Bucky will realize what a mistake this is in due time. It has been hardly any sports at all. I don't know if any of you noticed that Bob cut Bucky off when Bucky tried to get in-depth into the Longhorn/Rice baseball game. That was probably the most entertaining point for me because you know that Bucky had to be teed off at that. If you've ever been to a remote or anything, you would know that Bucky hates stuff like that when he takes calls or anything. He'll show the frustration from something like that all over his face. I'm thinking that Bob didn't want to get too much into the sports after some of his loyal listeners called in yesterday to say how much they hate how they were incorporating too much sports into the show now.

I'm just waiting on the 10AM sports hour on 1300 to see the fallout from day two. That will probably be the most entertainment that I get from The Zone today.

God bless Bucky in this endeavor, but I don't think that I'll be tuning in for day three.

Old habits are hard to break, but thanks to this move, I now listen to NPR in the morning. I am probably better off for it.
Spend too much time on sports.

I personally really enjoy his "Ain't it great to be alive in Austin, Texas!" segments.

Blah.....the highlight of today's show was Bob talking about his man boobs and Bucky saying that if he had them he would get a reduction. They also played an interview done with a traumatized young man who had a reduction to improve his image.

Awful ****.
